I know there is a post office in downtown San Miguel and I would like to send some letters to people while there. Questions- how much will it cost to send letters from there and will I need pesos in order to purchase stamps?

Last I heard, it was about 4.8 pesos to send a letter to the U.S. (about 50 cents), but don't quote me. You may be able to purchase stamps on board the ship (this is what I did) and save a little time.

We like to send post cards to our grandson from each port using the local stamps. You can pay with dollars, but your change will be in pesos.

I believe that post cards and letters start at 9.50 pesos if under 20 grams (.7 ounces) in weight.

We've always paid in pesos. Right now the dollar is worth about 13 pesos. But many vendors will be going with 10 or 11 to the dollar. Basically it's about 80¢ to a dollar to mail a card.
