Do I need Canadian money for taxis in Halifax and Saint John?

Recommended Posts

We will be at port in Halifax and Saint John on our cruise. Will we need Canadian money for taxis, or are U.S. dollars accepted? Thanks!

Your $USD will be accepted - however with the exchange rate your dollar is worth about $1.07 CDN, and when the bank takes their fee when the driver deposits it will be around $1.04 - so expect they will treat it as par. The larger cab companies take credit cards if this is more convenient - just look for symbol in yellow pages ads.

Yes, USD are accepted. But please note that, more than likely, you will receive Canadian dollars for change. So, use small bills unless you have a need for Canadian loonies and toonies.
