Nassau beach choice

Can someone offer a comparison between the Colonial Hilton beach and Sheraton beach? Hilton is within walking distance but Sheraton appears nicer. 4 adults, 1 20 month old. Prices are close so which is best?

Depends on what you are looking for.

BC Hilton - Small Business hotel located downtown. Beautiful historic building and 7 acres of manicured lawns and gardens.

A small quiet pool, no bigger than most back yard pools, and a quiet relaxing strip of private beach which is located on the harbour, not in open water. The beach is white and sandy.. plenty of chairs and a dozen or so Palapas. You'll likely see quite a few business suits around the pool at lunch time. This is for those who just want to chill out and relax or read a book. There's no "resort" atmosphere, no bingo, conga lines, loud music or announcements. Kids are allowed, but they are rare..

There is beach and poolside service as well as a Patio Bar.

You can easily walk to the Hilton from the dock

Sheraton is a somewhat large RESORT hotel located on Cable Beach next to it's sister property the Wyhdham and the Crystal Palace.

There's 3 pools, including a waterfall and swim up bar. The beach is white and sandy and there's water toys/ mats etc.. as well as free snorkeling gear available.

Bar and Grill, music, lots of "resort" ambiance.

You'll need a cab or jump on a jitney to get there.

Be aware that at this time, the harbour is being dredge and this impacts the British Colonial Hilton Beach. Not sure how long this will last but hopefully the waters will be cleared and settled by the holidays.

As far as the Sheraton goes, the sister property and casino are now closed for maintenane and will reopen Oct 6th. The sheraton is still open and everything is up and running.

For a resort day.. I'd chose the sheraton. For a chill out and relax in a hammock day.. the Hilton.

scubagirrl -

thanks for the info, i'm looking at some of the same options as the op. i'm coming to quickly realize you're quite an informed resource about stuff in nassau ;)

can you tell me how much the sheraton is, and how to go about getting the day passes? possible to book in advance, or just when you're there?

any other beach recommendations?

thanks

Sheraton is currently $25 pp and is a best bet for a non-all inclusive. It's a nicer property than Breezes, so if you don't need the "all you can drink" option. I'd choose the Sheraton.

You can't book in advance.. just walk in to the front desk.

Can you compare Sheraton to Breezes? Do you take the same jitney to both?

Thanks

Same Jitney, same stretch of beach. Sheraton is a nicer property in general. It's been updated time and time again. It's a lovely resort on a great beach.. You'll find families, couples, singles and day trippers.

Breezes is stuck in the 70's . Has trouble with pesky seagulls. Pool is usually pretty dirty..and it's a typical "all you can drink" kinda place.

If that's what's important.. Breezes will do. you'll overlook all the problems after your second (or third) drink.

The beach is lovely.

What do you get at the Sheraton for the 25 pp? I do want to have a couple of drinks and maybe eat. So, who knows?

You get use of the property, pools, cleaned beaches and restrooms, towels, lifeguards and security, non-motorized beach toys and snorkeling gear.

There's a nice bar and grill near the pools.

Hi Scubagirl, You helped us on our last trip to Nassau when we selected Dolphin Encounters over Atlantis..and you were right!! Awesome!! The kids loved their swim with the foot push experience!

Now we want to relax on our November trip and were wondering how much the Sheraton beach costs for kids (same as adults?)...heard you can avoid a cab cost if you walk over to get the jitney..is that a fact?

Can't wait to hear any more great tips you have and love reading all your helpful hints! Thanks!:)

I believe the cost for the sheraton is the same for adults and kids ($25).

I'm not sure, but I think that under 3 are free.

Yes, the jitney is an easy way to save $$$ and also experience the bahamas. Take the #10 from George Street off Bay.. anyone can point the way. The cost is $1.25 pp. No change given.

Wow, that was a fast reply!:D Thanks so much.....sounds like a good plan!:) We wanted to visit Atlantis, but it sounds over-priced and over-rated as far as beaches go....would you still suggest Cable over Atlantis?
