Leaving in a little more than a month for our cruise and am still undecided which camera to get. I have looked at reviews for both and handled both in stores. I am not a diver but a sometime snorkler. I am looking for a camera that will hold up in the water but also take good land pics as it will be the only camera I bring. Any thought/ideas/pictures you could post if you have either of these cameras? Thanks! :)

If you go by the review there is no do everything camera, each has tradeoffs in price, lenses range, speed, IQ and handling.

I personally think for 4x6 even 8x10 with good attention to composition all modern cameras will yield reasonable pictures. That already is an amazing feat given the price and capability of these new electronic wonders. Lets all thank Moore!

I just purchased the Olympus 6000 Tough. I think I am going to be pretty happy with it. The only real issue I see with it is that it does not recycle very fast - once you take a pic, it takes a few seconds to recycle to take the next picture.

However, I am very happy with the quality of the pictures. I just had some developed and they are very sharp and clear. I did learn though that with the 10 megapixels, I need to crop them in order to upload them to Walgreen's to develop. Walgreen's only takes photos up to 3500 x 3500 pixels. A lot of my pics were larger than that and I had to crop to get them under 3500 pixels. But that just means you don't need more than the 3zoom.

Here are a few of the pics I took.

Underwater in our pool.

At an airshow on a cloudy day.

And outside at a park.

Take a look at my article on batch resizing using my favorite free utility, IrfanView: http://pptphoto.com/ArticlePages/BatchResize.htm

It allows you to resize a group of photos and save a copy to a separate directory so that the longest sides of the upload copies are less than Walgreen's limit, making sure that the aspect ratio is maintained without cropping or distorting them. (The 3648 x 2736 images from your Oly 6000 would come out as 3500 x 2625 images and could be printed whole.)

Thanks for the suggestion, Dave.
