Sightseeing/Beach Tour

I'm looking for ideas for sightseeing or a sightseeing/beach tour while we are on St. Croix in November. The only tours I've come across have departed from Christiansted, while the ship docks apparently at Fredrickstad.

Are there booths or vendors set up as we get off the ship? Is a taxi a viable alternative?

Here is some beach info. From what I have been able to find on line it seems there is a beach within walking distance from the ship.

I downloaded the port and shopping guide from Royal caribbean and they do show the shopping near the dock on the map.

If you have trouble finding the guide on RC website let me know I have it saved and will post it on my travel site.

Which beach is closest to the port? Any help would be appreciated.

OK, I couldn't remember what the name of the beach was I just remembered reading is was near the Fort which was within walking distance. Here is a quote from the thread below - "There is a beach you can walk to at the left of the pier next to the fort. I think it is called Coconuts Beach Bar.

Both are nice beaches."

Here is the thread in case you want to read it. http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1030452

Here is a good map of the pier area and a link to St. Croix tourism website with a lot of good information. St. Croix Map of Pier

I think this is a port that we will not plan an "organized" tour but just do what strikes us when we get off the ship.

The beach that is right there by the cruise ship dock and fort is Frederiksted Beach. About a 1 minute walk from the end of the cruise ship dock to the beach along a boardwalk in front of the fort. Try a St. Croix Beach Guide for more information and photos: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&source=hp&q=beach+guide+st.+croix&aq=f&oq=&aqi=.
