Slimpickins Posted August 28, 2009 #4 Share Posted August 28, 2009 Does anyone know if you miss your only port due to a hurricane ,will your insurance refund most of the cruise fare back to you? What would you be telling your carrier as to why you think you are entitled to a refund? I would think, because you didn't miss your cruise, and Carnival gave you $20(should have) for missing it, you don't have a claim. But, it cant hurt to ask them :). I Am Canadian, Eh Posted August 28, 2009 #5 Share Posted August 28, 2009 Does anyone know if you miss your only port due to a hurricane ,will your insurance refund most of the cruise fare back to you? You'd have to read the really fine print of the policy, but in all likelyhood, no. The cruise still happened, just the itinerary was changed which, speaking of fine print - the cruise contract, the cruiseline is allowed to do. vacruizer Posted August 28, 2009 #6 Share Posted August 28, 2009 Travel insurance doesn't cover the ports - only the cruise itself. The cruise contract doesn't guarantee ports so you technically didn't miss any of your vacation to incur a loss which is what the travel insurance would cover. Were you to have to fly home mid-cruise due to an emergency, that's what trip interuption covers and they would refund you unused days.
firefly333 Posted August 28, 2009 #7 Share Posted August 28, 2009 Nope, Carnival gave you $25.00 for the missed port. Actually, they now give you $20 for missing you port. I think more than a year ago, before they put the policy in writing, some said they got $25, but now its $20.

jetskier Posted August 28, 2009 #9 Share Posted August 28, 2009 No way is the insurance going to pay as your cruise contract does not guarantee that you are going to go to a port. Now if the ship broke down and you had to leave the ship early, then that would be a trip interruption and would be covered. Dave
yst347 Posted August 28, 2009 #10 Share Posted August 28, 2009 You could probably buy a policy that would pay you for any inconvenience experienced on a cruise. The premium would have to be nearly as big as the cruise fare, plus commission. You should keep in mind that a cruise isn't transportation, at least not in the way air travel functions. On a cruise the ship is essentially the destination. If you read the cruise contract of carriage it is spelled out clearly. The line reserves the right to cancel or change the itinerary. If you are not comfortable with this arrangement you should consider spending your vacation time and money doing something more to your liking. G'ma Posted August 28, 2009 #11 Share Posted August 28, 2009 Does anyone know if you miss your only port due to a hurricane ,will your insurance refund most of the cruise fare back to you? No. Ships change itineraries all the time for many reasons. These changes are not compensable by insurance. The most you can hope for is a 20.00 credit to your onboard account for the port taxes refund. Read the terms and condition, the passenger contract where it outlines itinerary changes. There is also a section addressing missed ports.. All can be found on Carnival's front page on the website...at the bottom. You agree to these terms and conditions when you book passage....and acknowledge the risks. Insurance is for unexpected and unusual occurences outside the norm. yst347 Posted August 28, 2009 #12 Share Posted August 28, 2009 Insurance is for unexpected and unusual occurences outside the norm. This will come as a shock to the 43% of Americans who believe medical check-ups should be covered by insurance.
