Suntan lotion

Recommended Posts

Use a very high SPF as the sun is intense and you will get burned very quickly. In most cases you will be burned without realizing it.

I used sunblock w/ SPF 45 (Banana Boat Sport) when we were on the Sovereign last year. I still got a tan.. other passengers on the ship weren't so lucky. I can't tell you how many people I saw with horrific sunburns!

So, I'd go for a really high SPF. Even if it's total sunblock, you'll get a tan.

I read somewhere that the lotions need to be environmentally safe in some places in the Caribbean? Is that the case?

Who makes one? Where can you buy it?

I've always cruised in Dec. and haven't had a problem with burning.

Thanks!

I always have a pretty good tan before I go to the Caribbean. I only use an SPF 4 or SPF 8 on my body and an SPF 50 on my face and I've never burned. It really depends on your skin type and if you already have a tan.

we are swimmers/boaters we LIVE in the water and the best we have found is BULL FROG WATERPRO BODY GEL It stays on through sweat, saltwater, chlorine, grit, sand etc.. We need soap and water to get it off!!! LOVE IT! we joke that it actually makes us waterproof icon_smile.gif Also I have VERY sensitive skin and do fine with the bullfrog gel

I personally use coppertone sport SPF 30 and on my face oil free Coppertone SPF 45. I still tanned with all this sunscreen on. Alot of people I know swear by bull frog sunscreen products. It also helps to apply sunscreen 30 minutes before you are actually out in the sun, don't wait until you start to burn before putting it on.

Now they make products for your scalp if you chose not to wear a hat. My scalp always burns and peels, icky, icky, icky. I heard about them on this board, so next cruise I'll have to try them out.

Don't forget SPF chapstick or a similar product.

We had a good number of lobsters in the dining room after the first full sea day. You can burn easily being out by the pool for ~20-30 minutes without sunscreen.

I grew up in the midwest and we could be outside all day and maybe get a tiny burn but the instensity of the sun is much greater the closer to the tropics you get.

Cheers-

Sarab

I get mine on the ship. They sell some of the best I have ever used and the prices are about average for suntan lotion. Everyone always ends up using it. I still have several bottles around here somewhere. I also always take a supply of bullfrog too for when Im snorkeling. If you cant find it locally look on drugstore.com. They usually carry it.
