pinkpanther52 Posted March 19, 2017 #1 Share Posted March 19, 2017 With the news of Thomson moving one of thier new ships to Newcastle for 2018 I am thinking of trying them. Will be saling solo so have a couple of questions. I know it is freestyle dining but can you share a table? And does anyone know when the Itinerarys are released? Thanks
Pensioncruiser Posted March 19, 2017 #2 Share Posted March 19, 2017 You can definitely share a table, we are a couple but have shared which was fine. They do a table for solo passengers at the start of the cruise for introductions we have never witnessed any problems with solo travelers 😀 Sent from my b1-720 using Forums mobile app
davecttr Posted March 19, 2017 #3 Share Posted March 19, 2017 You can share a table or ask for one on your own, your choice. The 2018 itineraries will be released in late april. I have a hankering for the fjords so will be looking at the Discovery Itinerariesas and she will be based in Newcastle.
Pensioncruiser Posted March 19, 2017 #4 Share Posted March 19, 2017 Well if you have never done the Fjords you have something to look forward to absolutely fantastic you just can't describe it. Sent from my b1-720 using Forums mobile app
davecttr Posted March 19, 2017 #5 Share Posted March 19, 2017 Done the fjords lots of times but still hankering :) I am thinking of something longer like Iceland or North Cape both of which I have dome before.
smithsheff Posted March 19, 2017 #6 Share Posted March 19, 2017 Can't wait for it to be announced, I'm desperate to go on a Baltic one but have to do a lot of grovelling as other half isn't keen as he says it will be too cold. For anyone who has been how did you find Russia ?? I have heard that you can only go ashore with an organised tour.
OTrail Posted March 19, 2017 #7 Share Posted March 19, 2017 Hey! I'm a solo cruiser too so if you've got any questions feel free to ask. You can share a table, basically when you go for dinner you can either be asked to be seated all together or you just say how many are in your group and they'll seat you, normally at one of the larger tables. They also have solo traveller meet ups the first sea day which are quite good for seeing if there's anyone you can spend some time with during dinner and the evening entertainment. Both times I've went to them I've met fantastic people. Also, check the roll call forum as there's usually people on here looking to meet up for a drink. As others have said, itineraries should be released near the end of April, 20th I think. But you can always look at this year's for a pretty good guess at where they'll be going. I'm already primed to get an early booking on a Baltic cruise.
pinkpanther52 Posted March 19, 2017 Author #8 Share Posted March 19, 2017 Thanks for all the Info. I have cruised with Fred before and I like the set dining as I have always been at a table with great folks. But I have also cruised with NCL and they were excellent at arranging dinner for the Solos. Just thought I would check the situation with Thomson. My mate wants to try Fred so we might go together if not I think I will give Thomson a try. Newish ship, Newcastle and AI what's not to like :)

smithsheff Posted March 23, 2017 #10 Share Posted March 23, 2017 Ooooo, I've narrowed it down to 2 so far. Just have to persuade other half. 😀 I was trying to get 2 back to back but as I am off for a long cruise next week, needing a month off work, I will be pushing my luck for another next year. smithsheff Posted March 24, 2017 #16 Share Posted March 24, 2017 which 2? I like the sound of the fire an ice one The Baltic discovery or capitals. The fire and ice one was the one i wanted to join with One of the ones mentioned but have no chance getting time off. I really fancy Iceland but also going to the midnight sun one to go that high up in Europe. To be honest i am happy just to stay on the boat all summer and do all of them :D
OTrail Posted March 25, 2017 #17 Share Posted March 25, 2017 I'm looking at the Discovery or Capitals ones too, think I'm leaning toward the Capitals one and going to Riga rather than Sweden twice
