atabs12 Posted April 24, 2017 #1 Share Posted April 24, 2017 Hello, Cunard Newbie here. We decided to spend the kids inheritance and booked a cruise on QM2 in a Q4 Category Penthouse to the Norwegian Fjords (June). We cruised on other lines before but never had butler service. We don't know what to expect. Is the butler more like a cabin steward just with a different uniform? Are you getting escorted to your suite?. We also booked the Flagship hotel through Cunard with includes private transfer to/from Airport-Hotel-Port. Will be flying into LHR and leaving out of Southampton. Did anyone used this service before and can provide some feedback regarding your experience? Thanks so much
Mid-Atlantic Ridge Posted April 24, 2017 #2 Share Posted April 24, 2017 A cabin steward with extended duties, he or she will backed up by an assistant who tends to the cleaning of your bathroom, changes towels, helps with making the beds and so on. Yes you will escorted from check in through security, onto the ship and ultimately to your room. Usually it is one of the red uniformed bell boys who escorts you. There's a page here on the Cunard site about butlers https://ask.cunard.com/help/cunard/fleet/butler_duties I don't know about the Flagship hotel, sorry. BklynBoy8 Posted April 24, 2017 #3 Share Posted April 24, 2017 Dear atabs12, Welcome to the Cunard Family from a Oldie of 20 voyages with Cunard Line. I believe you will enjoy the Queen Mary 2 experience. We took this type of cruise in the past and have many memories. You selected a wonderful cruise to the Norwegian Fjords which I think takes place in July. Please take a lot of memory for your cameras and video recorders. I couldn't take enough pictures to bring home show. Unfortunately I can not advise you of the QG class onboard the QM2 but hope to one day to experience it. We did experience Queen Grill Class it on the QE2 and did have a butler to assist us with was very helpful. You may be able to find the list of amenities and how the butler will assist you on the Cunard Website - Queen Grill. You also get a Concierge Lounge located on either 9 to 10 Deck for your needs too! Bon Voyage!
Whirled Peas Posted April 25, 2017 #4 Share Posted April 25, 2017 A girlfriend and I stayed in a Q4 on the QM2 in September, 2015 for a transatlantic crossing. I will take a few lines to tell you about the butler service, and the suite. The butler can meet pretty much any reasonable request. We had him serve us breakfast in the suite every morning, as well as dinner one evening. We were able to order our dining-in meals from the Queens Grill menu or from the Brittania restaurant menu. He even would pick up food from the buffet for us if we liked. Whatever we wanted, he brought it. He also brought standard canapés in the afternoons, and he was willing to change up these canapés if we wanted something different than the standard fare. He would polish our shoes (no charge) and take our laundry for cleaning/pressing (for a fee). He kept our in-suite bar stocked with non-alcoholic beverages and spirits. If we finished off a bottle of wine, he always was willing to get us another (although I don't know if that is standard). We couldn't finish all the alcohol he brought to us. Basically, if there was anything we needed within the four walls of our suite, he made it happen. The concierge, who works only for Grills guests, took care of anything outside the suite, such as planetarium tickets, shore excursions (we booked a tour when the ship landed in Southhampton), and car service at the end of the cruise. The suite is very spacious. We especially liked the large balcony and the second half-bath. There is plenty of storage space, and two people can comfortably rattle around in there without feeling cramped. We were on the ship about nine months before the renovations, so it was beginning to show some wear. It should look quite spiffy when you are onboard this summer. The Queens Grill dining was really quite good. They are happy to have you go off menu with requests. My suite buddy had caviar for her appetizer five nights in a row and they didn't blink an eye! Service was really excellent. I am sure you will have a wonderful experience. I enjoyed myself so much, that I am doing a second transatlantic in a QG suite this coming September!
