mcmarya Posted June 29, 2011 #1 Share Posted June 29, 2011 I've got Select status on Celebrity and wondered how I go about getting equivalent status on RCCL for my first cruise--not that there are any big benefits. Do I call Crown and Anchor or Captain's Club? I can't just sign up for Crown and Anchor since I have not yet cruised. Thanks
Gonzo70 Posted June 29, 2011 #2 Share Posted June 29, 2011 Call RCI's Crown & Anchor Society once you have a RCI cruise booked and they will sign you up at the appropriate level.

We are diamond on RCCL and went on our first Celebrity cruise back in January. Equinox 10 days. Our local friendly TA took care of signing us up for the Captains Club and when we arrived we had Elite on our seapass card. I met someone else that was also diamond but didn't sign up ahead of time because he thought it was automatic. Missed out on some great perks. mcmarya Posted June 29, 2011 Author #4 Share Posted June 29, 2011 Yes, the Celebrity Elite perks are great. I don't cruise enough to have much status anywhere.
GaCruiser53 Posted June 29, 2011 #5 Share Posted June 29, 2011 What are the perks for the Elite status on Celebrity? We are Diamond in C&A and are thinking about a cruise on Celebrity line. It is a shame that they don't combine the cruise points for both lines.. after all they are one company..... you think?
yogimax Posted June 29, 2011 #6 Share Posted June 29, 2011 --not that there are any big benefits. I disagree. My feeling is that both RCCL's and Celebrity's loyalty programs are among the best in the business, definitely better than Carnival and NCL. GaCruiser53 Posted June 29, 2011 #7 Share Posted June 29, 2011 Wouldn't it be good if you got credit for the number of nights you were on Celebrity on your Crown and Anchor status? When you can only do one cruise a year, it seems like one would "lose" by doing a Celebrity cruise.

The reason they can't combine perks is there are too many people already at the higher status levels, so that would cause even more of a logjam and they would have to reduce perks or raise the bar for obtaining the higher level. The Elite perks are detailed on Celebrity's website, but some of the better perks include: 90 minutes of free internet per Elite member, a decent amount of free laundry, free cocktails from 5pm-7pm in a dedicated lounge, special breakfast each morning with free specialty coffees, Bloody Mary's and mimosas, senior officer cocktail reception, pass to Persian Gardens while in port one day etc.
Rare silentbob007 Posted June 29, 2011 #9 Share Posted June 29, 2011 The Elite perks are great. When we joined Captain's Club for our first cruise, we called them up and they created our accounts at the proper level. I'd assume it would work the other way as well. Just call C&A using their number and I'm sure they can get an account created for you showing proper status.

For me, Celebrity's perks were better than Royal's Diamond. Plus for Celebrity over Royal: Free wash and fold laundry for 20-30 items, free dry cleaning of one garment (suit is one garment), more internet minutes, pass to Persian Gardens on a port day (these perks are per person, not per cabin) special breakfast with coffee, Bloody Mary's, Mimosas, mixed drinks at the evening reception vs. wine and sodas on Royal, canapes vs. trail mix on Royal. Plus for Royal: Longer evening reception times. Celebrity is 5-7; Royal's is 5:00 to 8:00 or 8:30. Free photo (per person); Welcome aboard snack basket. I haven't gotten one of these yet, just filled out what non-alcoholic drink I wanted in it. We got an el cheapo tote bag on our bed at embarkation on Celebrity but not sure if it was just for Elite or everyone got them. There were other coupons for things but not things on both Royal and Celebrity but not things I was interested in so I can't compare. Both had $5 match play coupons in the casino, though. mcmarya Posted July 12, 2011 Author #12 Share Posted July 12, 2011 I'm a little confused about what happens after you have been awarded matching status. I am Select on Celebrity and have been given Platinum status on Royal Caribbean. In December, I will take a 12 night cruise in December on RCCL. Do those points count toward my next status in Crown and Anchor or do I have to earn the full 55 cruise points required for the next status? I assume it is the latter since I have "0" cruise points. Wish I could have stuck with one line or the other.

If you have never sailed before on RCI then even though your status with Crown & Anchor would be Platinum (because of your status with Celebrity's captain's Club) you would still have zero cruise points with RCI, so your 12 night RCI cruise would just bring you from zero to 12 points. While you are Platinum because of your Captain´s Club status with C&A already, you will start from 0 to build up your cruise points to get to Diamond. I´m D+ with Royal and have cruised just once with X, so I´m low level with them in terms of cruise points, but then there´s nothing over elite with them right now and I´m at that level already.;)

We always felt Celebrity was a level higher than RCI. Now it is RCI who is charging more for a cruise than Celebrity.. I know that many feel that RCI is a better product now with all the big new ships but I for one feel RCI is forgetting what cruising was all about. Cruising was all inclusive. It was about service, good dining and the sea experience and not a theme park, kidsville, wave riders --pack them in and charge for everything you can to pay for those HUGE mega ships. Now we are D+ and not running for the points we can go back to Celebrity which I am finding better deals on and I really think the X ships have better food presentation and service than RCI. They really fuss over their Elite members, more than most of the RCI Diamond events. BUT thats my own opinion and I love Royal and the Radiance class ships ..It just seems like RCI is making it so easy now to try the competition like Princess and Holland and Celebrity.;)
