Sprasa03 Posted August 26, 2016 #1 Share Posted August 26, 2016 I am perusing the restaurant menus and seeing all these fancy drinks I've never heard of before but do I have to be in that specific restaurant to order that drink - or can I go up to any bar / restaurant and order that specific drink I like. Also - even though it's been answered a million times but the cost sometimes varies - what is the cap price on the UBP? I think I've seen $11 and $15 before. I just want to make sure I don't order a drink that's not covered by the UBP.
triptolemus Posted August 26, 2016 #2 Share Posted August 26, 2016 1) Sometimes, but not always. Depends on the drink. Most bars could probably make most drinks on the ship. But, for example, the specialty cocktails available in Tepenyaki can probably only be had at the bar adjacent to the restaurant. I doubt the pool bar would have those ingredients. 2) UBP covers up to $15 for anything. You pay any amount above that, + 18% of that amount. Actually I discovered on our last cruise that the bars are surprisingly specialized on the ships and many of them lack the ingredients to make drinks common in other bars. For instance I went to 3 different bars on 3 different decks of the ship on our last Cruise in order to find a bar that had Apple Pucker liqueur which was an ingredient of a drink I like. There are also many bars that lack ability to make frozen drinks. Most of them lack the ability to make anything but the most simple martini. casofilia Posted August 26, 2016 #4 Share Posted August 26, 2016 If you are in the MDR or Specialty and want a special drink you may well be lucky if the server is not too busy or there is a drink staff member available. Especially if you can tell them where you have 'bought' the drink before. You will get a docket for the 18% and I suggest a good tip if you want an order like that repeated!! It does take time for someone to go to get it especially if the bar is a long way away and the bar is busy.
Sprasa03 Posted August 26, 2016 Author #5 Share Posted August 26, 2016 The drink I saw last night was in Le Bistro (I think it's called Emperor something and it has apple, cinnamon and ginger beer!!! ) and they don't have a stand alone / walk up bar I don't think. Until I get on the boat I'm not sure what bar is near the restaurant that I could request the drink from. I'm not one to make a hassle tho, if I really can't get it outside Le Bistro then I'll live. I'm sure there are many other drinks I'll like that may be more easily accessible.

Bad experience last cruise, it was another line figured they should all know how to make the same drink. NOPE, not even close! Another lounge only about 100yds from the comedy club tried twice to get the drink right, each time it tasted like spoiled milk(like someone made chocolate milk and poured OJ into it) and I ended up leaving a full drink behind because it was so gross. Remedy, went back to the comedy club and ordered another. They were so good, like a thick chocolate milk shake with a kick. YUM
hawkeyetlse Posted August 26, 2016 #7 Share Posted August 26, 2016 Emperor's Nectar: Mandarine Napoléon, apple juice, cinnamon syrup, ginger beer ($9.95). The issue is not only the ingredients, but also most bar staff probably have never heard of this cocktail and have never made it before. Even if they have all the ingredients, it's probably not going to turn out the way it does at Le Bistro… In that case I would rather order something else that they know how to make properly.
