Land train at Naples ?

There are a variety of trains in and around Naples, where do you want to go? Some run underground in the city itself but above ground once outside the center of town.

There is Trenitalia, the state rail, Italotreno, a new competitor on the high speed lines (Naples to Rome, for example), the Circumvesuviana (more like a subway that runs at ground level than a traditional train), the Cumana and Circumflegrea (similar to the Circumvesuviana but running north of Naples) and other suburban lines.

An option would be a panoramic tour by taxi. There is a fixed fare of €70 and it covers the historical center of town, as well as gulf/waterfront area and Campi Flegri. That might be enough to give you the overview you're looking for, and the price isn't much more than four HOHO bus tickets.

You can find the information on fixed fares on the city's web site here (see page two of the download for the tours): http://www.comune.napoli.it/flex/cm/pages/ServeBLOB.php/L/IT/IDPagina/1193
