Elann Posted April 25, 2012 #5 Share Posted April 25, 2012 That shrimp looks yummy! I was all into in until I saw the crabcakes. (I am from Maryland. To me crabcakes should be softball sized and bumpy looking from all the lump crabmeat.)
Highboy90 Posted April 25, 2012 #6 Share Posted April 25, 2012 I had the crabcakes in the MDR one day. All filling. Table next to us even shared the same thoughts. Sure they were better at Cagney's though doesn't look all that great. Now the shrimp... yum! Didn't make it to Cagney's but if I ever cruise with NCL again, I will. :)
ColinIllinois Posted April 25, 2012 #7 Share Posted April 25, 2012 Looks good but they need to work on the presentation for that steak plate.
LadyShiva Posted April 25, 2012 #8 Share Posted April 25, 2012 Looks good but they need to work on the presentation for that steak plate. Just what I was thinking! Someone recently posted a picture from a galley tour of the how-to pictures for all the food presentations, and all I could think of was how much white plate showed on each course... It reminded me of how a chef will take a white towel and "clean up" any inadvertent spills on the plate. Every plate had that 3 inch gap between the food and the plate edge. I wonder if it is to ease the kitchen's load to make the customer's meal more configurable? "Well, I want the steak, but I don't want the potatoes that come with it--I want the asparagus instead, but cooked without the butter.." and so everything gets its own plate? MCAT48 Posted April 25, 2012 #9 Share Posted April 25, 2012 Do you have a recent menu from Cagneys? Do they change the menu regularly or is it always the same menu? That food looks pretty amazing but I have to agree the steak looks a bit lonely :( Maybe they should use a smaller plate or just give a larger steak :). We are going to try Cagneys for the first time this cruise Can't wait!! PS thanks for posting the pictures!
ndabunka Posted April 25, 2012 #10 Share Posted April 25, 2012 The crab cakes and the filet look to be about 50% of the size I would expect from a "upscale" restaurant. I've been on cruises previously and know that they will often bring you additional portions if requested. I am not a big eater but I could see wanting more of what's there. Is it considered bad etiquette to ask for 2 of those shrimp cocktails or would it simply be more prudent to request a separate salad or soup? I know it's possible, just wondering if it is considered appropriate form.

my_crib_too Posted April 25, 2012 #13 Share Posted April 25, 2012 This is the kind of food that I am used to seeing on NCL. Maybe not as fancy in the MDR but similar enough. This looks great!!! Then I read a CC thread about how all NCL food is total slop. I've just never experienced it. Maybe I've ordered too many meals via a clown face and speaker to know that this is poor quality food. :D

You can order as much of the sides as you wish as well (plus leave room for dessert!!). The only thing you cannot order is a second entree (without extra charge that is - and, yes, before someone jumps in, it *has* been reported here on CC from time-to-time that people have had servers willing to bring them two fillets, or two prime rib orders - and they didn't get charged. When in doubt, you can always ask!) Enjoy! (PS - we were stuffed after a soup or salad, main entree with one side and dessert - all the more power to anyone who can enjoy more! I certainly wish I could because it is all outrageously good!! :D)

Actually, my post was about Cagney's (or any of the other "pay" restaurants) - not the main dining rooms (if that's what you are referencing, unless you are talking about Cagney's too?). (Though, all the more power to you for managing more food! It's all sooooo good!!!!)
