Galveston baggage

I don't know the earliest you can drop them off but I will definitely try to drive up there and drop them off early next time.

In Feb the porters were all hanging out way to the right of the port entrance. I'm going to guess 100+ feet. So we had to carry our bags down there. Then when we got there most of the porters were just sitting around and didn't seem interested in taking bags. There was only one taking bags and his cart was overflowing.

After about 5mins this guy in these big bay doors tells us just take them in there and put them by the number on our baggage tag. Having only cruised out of New Orleans where the porters are right by the port entrance and eager to grab your bags, I always thought you had to give them to the porters if you were checking baggage He said "if you give them to the porters, they're going to take them on the ship. If you put them over there, they're going to take them on the ship.

Hopefully you have a better experience with those porters.
