Viking Russian river cruise, June 2017

We're preparing for a Russian river cruise with Viking this June. Read lots of the reviews regarding the Viking Akun, excursions, food, etc. I'd really appreciate any "practical" advice about clothing, currency, do's, and dont's that you think we really need to know. Thanks!

Although English is spoken widely, you'll find lots of times when your Russian will be handy

I've never been to Russia, but I'm guessing English speakers are more frequently found in cities, correct? Just being able to read signs and menus in Russian would be a huge help, I would think.
