sarar Posted May 21, 2016 #1 Share Posted May 21, 2016 I am on the Celebrity Eclipse very soon doing a Baltic cruise and one of our stops is Stockholm. As the Exclipse is a big ship I think we will probably dock in Frihamnen rather than the smaller Gamla Stan port. My question is as Frihamnen is a more industrial port, we will have to get taxis into town because of mobility issues, are they close by and how much do they cost? TIA

TIA You can see exactly where your cruise ship docks here: http://www.portsofstockholm.com/vessel-calls/ FRIHAMNEN: There are taxis available just outside the terminal and cost about 250SEK to 300SEK. Note: there is a 27K surcharge for Frihamnen terminal. Taxi price calculator here: http://www.taxistockholm.se/en/ Make sure that you avoid tourist rip-offs from unmarked taxis. Request a fare estimate before getting in the taxi. Edited May 21, 2016 by dogs4fun

dogs4fun Posted May 21, 2016 #4 Share Posted May 21, 2016 (edited) Hi dogs4funis the 250DKK a return price? No, one way only and the price will be from 250 - 300 SEK. Check-out the taxi link in my post. DKK is Danish - SEK is Swedish. Edited May 21, 2016 by dogs4fun

You may want to check with Celebrity closer to your embarkation date as the port of Stockholm as just opened a new extending pier at Nynashamn which was used for the first time by the Regal Princess on May 10th. We are on the May 26th sailing of the Regal and while we have not as yet received an update from Princess we are a bit anxious to say the least. http://nynashamnsposten.se/nyheter/n...et-i-nynashamn http://nynashamnsposten.se/nyheter/n...-testa-seawalk

newgrange Posted May 21, 2016 #9 Share Posted May 21, 2016 Stockholm's public transit system is very wheelchair friendly, if you use a chair.

TIA I would recommend to read the the info in the two threads linked in my signature in which you will have info about most things you need to know including taxis and public transport. If you have mobility problems, public transport would normally work but obviously it can be a bit crowded in the morning/evening. Putterdude Posted May 21, 2016 #12 Share Posted May 21, 2016 Celebrity ships dock in Stockholm, not Nynashamn. Nynashamn is located about an hour drive from the city of Stockholm. I know where Nynashamn and Stockholm is, the Regal was also to dock in Stockholm and is still being shown as such. However, evidently there are or may be some changes being made. The Eclipse is a Solstice class ship, about the same size as the Regal so I think the OP would do very well to make sure that they are still docking in Stockholm as the purpose of the new SeaWalk pier is to handle the newer larger cruise ships. OP does not need to worry. The Solstice ships will dock in central Stockholm as the always have. The Regal princess have two or three scheduled arrivals to Nynäshamn while the rest should be in central Stockholm. The Regal Princess and it's sister and cousin (Britannica) are authorized/approved to sail into Stockholm (they did last year on a few occasions). Changes might occur though due to too poor visibility or too strong winds. The largest ships can berth at both Frihamnen and at Stadsgården S167 so make sure you check the actual berthing location before booking taxis or tours. Skeppsbron (Gamla Stan/ Old Town) is not used for cruise ships this season. Edited May 21, 2016 by Desdichado62
bremenkat Posted May 22, 2016 #14 Share Posted May 22, 2016 Another option is to prebook your taxi - we did this last year when we were on Celebrity Eclipse into Frihamnen. We emailed them and arranged a time. The taxi turned up as arranged and we just paid the driver. When we arranged it we told them where we wanted to go to and they gave us a quote. The actual price was less than the quote and quite a bit cheaper than prices people paid getting a taxi at the port. If you know when you want to return to the ship then it might be worth prebooking that taxi as well. Different taxis charge different rates ( you have to look on the doors/windows) for the rates. We found they were pretty expensive and us and a lot of people we spoke to walked back from the centre as we didn't want to pay these prices. sarar Posted May 22, 2016 Author #15 Share Posted May 22, 2016 Is it far back from the centre as my parents will be pushing me in the wheelchair?
dogs4fun Posted May 22, 2016 #16 Share Posted May 22, 2016 (edited) Is it far back from the centre as my parents will be pushing me in the wheelchair? What do you mean by center? Frihamnen is about 5 km from Gamla Stan. Would be over an hour to walk & very tiring if pushing a chair. There are HOHO boats in Stockholm - would you be able to use these? If not, I would seriously consider prebooking a taxi. Edited May 22, 2016 by dogs4fun
sarar Posted May 22, 2016 Author #17 Share Posted May 22, 2016 The poster before mine had mentioned that taxis were expensive and had decided to walk back from the centre.
pjs678 Posted May 22, 2016 #18 Share Posted May 22, 2016 I was looking at bus timetables for our cruise next month as there is a bus stop near Frihamn and if you look here: http://sl.se/en/getting-around/ You will see that there is some info about accessibility, including that all buses have ramps and floor-level access for wheelchairs. Obviously buses are much cheaper than taxis.
bremenkat Posted May 22, 2016 #19 Share Posted May 22, 2016 We did walk back but it was a good hour and that included cutting across a park. The first part of the walk is flat but there are some uphill parts so I wouldn't recommend it if mobility is an issue.

Stops are Räntmästartrappan (south eastern end) or Slottsbacken (at the hill that leads up to the Palace in the north eastern end). Make sure the destination sign says Frihamnen or Ropsten which is the north bound direction. Just remember that you cannot buy bus tickets on the bus, so you have to buy them before going to the bus.
