NCL star for honeymoon?

Hi, hoping for some advice!

We are getting married next October and wanting to do a week in Italy followed by a week cruising around Greece and we've found an itinerary that works perfectly.

Were currently looking at an owner's suite on the star - the suite perks and butler etc sounds dreamy. I've only cruised on what was Ocean Village and that kind of relaxed vibe really appeals (we aren't v formal people) but can I just check with the experts that you think this would be a good idea and amazing enough for a honeymoon? I have looked around a lot and there's a royal Caribbean cruise with similar prices and itinerary but the suite option (and all inclusive booze) is pushing this into first place but I've read it's an older ship and not as jazzy as some of the new ones...

I have a specific question of flexible dining - I've seen this tends to split people? We 100% want flexible dining times but does this mean we can still get a table as a couple etc or is it big group tables?

Any and all advice would be very gratefully received :)

I'm not really sure what kind of answers you are looking for, but just realize that the reason why you might not have gotten any responses is because everyone's opinion is different. One man's garbage is another's masterpiece.

Not really sure what qualifies as being "amazing enough" for a honeymoon. To many, an inside cabin on any ship anywhere would be "amazing". Owner's suite on Star in Mediterranean vs. balcony cabin on bigger newer ship in Caribbean? Both sound great to me. It's all about your personal preference and where you want to go.

No formal. You can eat at anytime.

Yea, suite is great but other than a few perks, not that much different than balcony. Keep in mind that many suites are really just one big room.

As the first person said.. not sure what is important to you.

From my limited experience on NCL - in a suite - is that this is one of the positives of NCL - having flexible dining options. You absolutely can get a table for two. Understand that lots of people will likely ask for the same. However, one of the perks of a suite is access to the concierge who often can help make reservations for the time and place you want. If you are flexible you will enjoy NCL.

Because NCL is all Freestyle -- there is only open seating dining. No assigned tables, no sharing a table (unless you request to share) and no assigned dining times. There are usually 2 main dining rooms, a buffet area, and at least 3 specialty dining options on every NCL ship.

The specialty dining will require a reservation so in that is not quite as Freestyle, there are also upcharges or a la carte pricing for these dining areas.

The STAR is a smaller ship, so no ropes course or climbing wall. But you have a very port intensive cruise so you'll be tired after your port days. The shows will be of an international flavor but you will find music in most lounges from piano bar to duo/group bands etc.

I hope you will have a fantastic cruise on which ever line you finally decide on.;)

I was on the Norwegian Star In June... stayed in the Deluxe Owner's Suite. I also was on the Norwegian Star back in 2004 and was in the Owner's Suite then. The Owner's suite is actually nicer with two balconies vs the deluxe owner's suite with just floor to ceiling windows. I was very impressed with the Star in June... wasn't sure what to expect with it being a little older now and smaller than I am used to cruising. I HIGHLY recommend doing this cruise in the suite for your honeymoon. The butler will make you feel special, you get extra perks with VIP check in, embarkation lunch at Cagney's. Priority escort off ship and priority tender if you have a tender port, breakfast and lunch in y our special dining room. Treats delivered to your cabin. Owner's suites also get free bottled water (not included in the regular drink package). As far as dining, you can request and get a table for two... your butler or concierge will assist. When our butler saw us leaving for dinner on a day we did not have reservations, he dropped everything, escorted us to the restaurant and took care of all. We also had dinner in our cabin the first night... we were tired and it was perfect. You will love this for a honeymoon!!!

The star was a nice, solid ship. The service was excellent. We did the Baltics, so the lack of rock climbing facilities and other newer amenities didn't really matter. We thought the food in the MDR was very weak, but the specialty restaurants were really good (especially the Brazilian one). We'd sail on the star again, but just factor in the cost of specialty restaurants on an UDP. But as the posters above noted, it truly is a personal choice as to whether a suite on a larger ship is better than a balcony cabin on a newer one.

In a suite, you'd get priority disembarkation, which might matter if you are going to Santorini since it will let you get a jump on the crowds, since both the funicular and donkey can get crowded at peak times when everyone tries to get ashore at once.
