Cherbourg car rental

We will be in Cherbourg this June and want to rent a car for the day. Understand Enterprise has an office in the ferry port, how far is this from the cruise terminal? Would we be better off picking up the vehicle at the DT location, which I believe is downtown or centre ville? I suppose we could take a taxi to the city office.

It all depends on whether you like to take a long walk. DW and I have rented cars in Cherbourg, but have always opted for whoever has the best deal....which usually means walking out of the port to a downtown office. Most of the major agencies have offices within a reasonable walking distance from the port.

Thanks Hank, will probably go with Enterprise since I have status with them and may get an upgrade? Anyway, how far is the walk to the city office, 15-20 minutes or more? Thanks again:)

If you are fast walkers, you can get to that 91 Quai Southampton office in about 30 min. What makes it longer then it looks, is the long route to get out of the port. Years ago we used to be able to cut out at least 1/4 of a mile by taking a short cut across an empty field (inside the large port) but they have since fenced-off that short cut. So now, you must use the side walks to get out of the port. But since you are dealing with Enterprise you might want to make an inquiry as to whether they would pick you up in the port. Maybe you will get lucky :).

We have never seen a shuttle bus in or out of the port.
