  1. And what would you recommend we do in St Maarten and San Juan?

St Maarten: We took a private tour with Bernard's Tours and it was brilliant, our driver was so friendly and happy to answer any and all questions we had. He was very openly discussing the island and the islands folk and the politics. We discussed the changes made to the island that we noticed between the first time we visited and the current trip. He allowed us as much time in each place as we wanted and we didn't feel in any way pressured to move on at all. He also made some homemade rum punch which certainly made for a merry evening back on board. (We drank it before we boarded!!) I couldn't recommend Bernard's enough! Our driver also had a nice story about Oprah.... but that may have been an exclusive so I'll keep quiet on that one!

Old San Juan is wonderfully lovely and picturesque, some of the photos you can get are breathtaking, especially on the coast where the fortresses are, you can walk there safely from the ship as well. The locals were also very friendly! You wouldn't need to book an excursion to see the best of Old San Juan for sure :)

I'd choose this itinerary over a western one any day. Whilst Labadee has a great beach day, Jamaica isn't to everyone's tastes and it may be worth steering clear from there until you have gauged your friend's thoughts on cruising generally. I personally found Cozumel to be the worst port we have been to, pushy and intimidating sales people made for a less than pleasant stay. I appreciate there is an element of upsell for all locals on each respective island but we felt it was at its worst in Cozumel.

    Thank you :)

  2. I've met some amazing families at sea, and I'm hoping to cruise with one particular family, in the future if all our diaries match!!

I know I'm quoting myself here but those very same friends just surprised us with a video call where they revealed to us that they are joining us on our upcoming Freedom sailing! I am so happy and excited!!

  3. Instead of sitting around trying to get lucky by having the room steward help.

Just take the stuff out yourself.

Put it in the top of the closet.

On the last day, put it back.

    Pretty simple for most......

Actually I was advised not to do that on this very forum because people have previously been charged for the items not being in the fridge, despite them being on the shelf above.

    Have a nice day :)

  4. Hi everybody,

The question is in the title really but let me give you a bit of background. I've read so often about lucky people who have asked their Stateroom Attendant to remove contents from the fridge. However when we have asked before, we have always been told no?

What's the official stance on this? Have I just been really unlucky? Is it that other people have just been really lucky? Hopefully I haven't opened a can of worms [emoji85]

    Thanks!

  5. Ive never had more than $100 OBC per stateroom but I have had $600 taken off the price of my cruise after booking. That's quite unusual for a British cruiser as we have different laws about it in comparison to the USA.

  6. Here in the U.K., places often offer a "we will match online prices" tagline, because they still get paid the same hourly wage nonetheless. We have a living wage, which everyone over 25 has to have legally. Then the TA would make commission on flights, hotels, transfers, attraction tickets, rental cars etc.... just not cruises.

  7. Hi

We've done this twice, 1st time flew to Miami for 2 days then flew to SJ on the morning of the cruise, 2nd time was to Orlando for a couple of days and then again to SJ with Jetblue on the morning of the flight. We liked both but preferred via Orlando as we did shopping and it seemed easier through Orlando airport.

Thanks for the reply - was it tight on time, flying in on the morning of the cruise?

  8. Our first cruise, Allure in 2012, Boris (from South America I think) was by far the best we have ever had. Nothing ever too much trouble, always had time for a chat and made things personal, as if we were the only stateroom he was looking after. None of the attendants have lived up to him, but I just stress that they weren't "bad" either.
