  1. Does anyone have any information about Scenic Cruiselines? Their phone lines have been down since at least Monday, and the website has not worked properly since at least Sunday evening. Both have an notice that instruct one to send an email, however that email gets a reply that says they are having technical problems, and will reply once resolved.

    Thanks for any info.

  2. I am our family’s cruise planner. I have booked cruises ranging from single cabins to ten cabins. I used  a TA once. I had to call her every time there was a price drop, then she called the cruiseline. No discounts or perks from her. She gave exactly the price on the website and no extras. I have called other TAs with different trips, and always found I could get exactly what they offered directly from the cruisline. I even had one TA tell me I would have to pay them a fee to book for me. I wish someone would tell me where to find the TAs that give all the discounts and perks!

  3. Thank you all so much. We just made final payment for our Scenic cruise. This is our first river cruise, and we are very excited.  Final payment is what always makes a cruise real for me.

    Thanks again!

On our first Scenic cruise my evening dress code was chinos and a polo shirt. The only time I felt underdressed was at the fancy concert in Vienna. For our second cruise coming up I will probably pack a dress shirt for any similar occasion.

Our next cruise is in October so I will bring a sport coat Incase the dining room gets chilly.

If if you want to dress up more it’s perfectly fine. We saw a few suits and at least one tuxedo. The couple was sailing for their 60th anniversary and he wore the tuxedo he was married in(and he hadn’t had it altered!).

Thank you. Exactly the information I was looking for.

[I know you asked for experiences too, but I always like to respond in dress code threads with the actual information provided by a cruise company if possible, so there's some sort of objective base for discussion ;-)]

These days, neither my husband nor I travel with jeans, and he usually brings a sports coat (travel version from Eddie Bauer) for warmth, and we find that our wardrobes are sufficient for MOST options we come across in our travels. That said, we rarely travel on lines with actual formal nights these days. Did just go on Seabourn, which has formal nights, but they're not that formal - just a jacket is required.....

I do appreciate the actual dress code. I was unable to find it on their website, and followed your link back. There was additional information I was looking on FAQ, so thank you!!

  6. Hi. My 80 yr. old mother and I will be on a partial transit in Feb. My mother would like to go on this excursion, but she does have a concern about the canoes listed in the description.  She did have a knee replacement about 2 years ago, and gets around quite well now. She is able to walk long distances, but goes slowly. I am not especially interested in going on this excursion. Her concerns are: How difficult was it to get into the canoes? And speed of the canoes? She has a concern about them being "fast".  Thanks!

  7. So if I get a drink then I have to wait 5 minutes before I get another one if I just don't like it and give it to my daughter any tips

Sent from my iPhone using Forums

Assuming both drink are alcoholic, under the rules of the Cheers package you have to wait 5 minutes to order, also, you can not give the first drink to your daughter
  8. the 5 minute rule is for alcoholic AND non alcoholic drinks .

That was not our experience. Every bartender on our last Carnival cruise allowed us to get one alcoholic drink and one non-alcoholic drink at the same time, and they rang them up at the same time on one Sail and Sign card. They could not do 2 alcoholic drinks at the same time, however.

  9. If husband "No Shows" does the OP have to pay for a single supplement rate?

No. We had this happen on our last cruise. One person could not make it, and we no showed her on embarkment. We got back a small amount of the fees, and no supplement was added.

  10. Sorry to tell you but Royals customer service agents are notorious for giving out wrong information as they just did again.

JS's on other classes of ships such are 255 sq ft but they aren't on Empress.

I actually talked to accessibility, do you think their information is any better?

May I ask if you were in a JS on deck 7 or 9? I am told that the ones on deck 9 are larger.

I have seen 1 or 2 videos on YouTube of the rooms, and think they might work. All of the videos are of deck 9.

  11. Is there a penalty for canceling him in advance rather than just being a no show? If not then remember that buying cheers onboard costs more than buying it in advance.

If you cancel in advance, the remaining passenger has to pay as a solo. So, if you are in the 75% penalty phase, you will get 25% back for cancelling, but then the remaining passenger will pay 200%. Less expensive to "no show."

  12. "We were in a Jr. Suite on Empress last month. There was no bathtub in our JS. I don't believe there are bathtubs in any JS's on Empress!

Yes the cabins and balconies are smaller compared to other RCI JS's but I think your Mom will have no trouble navigating in the cabin."

Thank you Scotty G. I was hoping to find someone who had actually been in a JS, and here you are. I am still hoping to get the measurement from the ship. We will see.

  13. "Junior suites on Empress are smaller than most balcony cabins on other ships. They are between 112 and 155 sq ft so there is not a lot of room and they don't have a bathtub."

    Thanks everyone for your thoughts.

I read that size on the website, too. Called RCCL and they say the website is wrong, that the JS are 255 sq ft. I think she will be fine if the disrence between the foot of the bed and the wall will allow for the walker.

  14. Hi, we are thinking of cursing Empress over Christmas. My Mother-in-law will be with us and she requires a rollator to get around. Has anyone been in the Junior Suites on Empress with a walker or rollator, and were there any issues with getting around the foot of the bed. Accessibility has emailed the ship to have that area measured for me, but they have not heard back from the ship.

    Thanks,

    Marybeth
