  1. Thanks again. Have been keeping up to date with the cruise roll call but there has nothing of note re Brisbane. Looks like we can fill our day quiet nicely and get a river cat as well. Glennys:)

Happy, if you check out the likes of scoop on, spreetz, why pay full price etc, they often have discount coupons for southbank. In particular the hiring of segways, kyacks, abseiling etc. if that stuff interests you then keep your eyes out for the discount vouchers!

    :) I hope u enjoy Brizzy.

  2. Doing a three night cruise alone on Carnival Spirit. Don't want to dine with different people every night and don't want to be relegated to the buffet. Will they allow a table for one in the dining room at dinner? For just three nights I am happy to eat alone.

    Have a great cruise :)

  3. I wouldn't risk Aus zoo. Traffic can be a killer.

Wivenhoe Dam, Gold Coast hinterlands- wineries, Qld Museum & QPAC etc. Sthbank is lovely.

Boondall wetlands, shorncliffe is pretty, Mt Cootha has a great lookout and indigenous garden. Botanical gardens and river walk along QUT GP campus area.

Are you interested in anything in particular?

  4. Hello, Aussie Friends,

My DD, S-in-L, and GrandBaby disembark the Diamond Princess in Sydney on Tuesday 3 February and fly home SYD > LAX on Saturday evening, 7 February.

Patrick wants to dive the GBR but we only have from Tuesday until Saturday. Do you have any suggestions for:

    1. Hotels in Cairns near the dive beaches?

    2. Dive shoppes from which to rent suit & equipment?

    3. Flight times?

Thanks in advance for all your help! :D

Heron Isle, DayDream Isle & Orpheus Isle all have lively accessible reefs that don't require travel to them. Ie you walk off the beach and can snorkel through the reef.

The GBR is massive and can be accessed by fast cats from various ports. I would recommend Cairns /PDouglas & Green Island over Tvlle departures.

The reef can also be accessed from the Whitsundays, but if via flights a hassle to get to unless flying into Hamilton Isle & ducking across to Daydream Isle which is really lovely btw. :)

  5. When do you declare the wine? Do you pay for the corkage before hand or does it get added on to the inboard account?

Sent from my iPhone using Forums

We paid for it before boarding. We were initially treated like criminals for having 6 bottles of wine. :( We had to firmly tell the security (outsourced) that we wanted to pay corkage for 4. He seemed stunned at the concept, asked someone else who directed him & us to a small card table manned by a princess employee. They were switched on, collected our $60, after we nominated what bottles we wanted to pay corkage on and stamped our bottles. We then went onwards through customs & boarded the ship. We had it in our carryon.

I did notice a rubbish bin full of cartons of rum n coke etc that was ditched from previous cruisers.

  6. I am trying to avoid a big bus and doing an excision thru the cruise line. I had the idea of hiring a driver to take us to the Amalfi coast. What would be really awesome is a boat trip. Does anyone have any ideas?

I have been reading on other threads here that there is a high speed boat as well as a ferry from Naples to Sorrento and return. Apparently the high speed boat is 45 mins and quicker than the road trip.

We are there in October, so busy busy busy looking at options too :)

  7. Value in a cruise line all depends on what you consider to be important, what you can do without and how much you're willing to pay. Many people think that Carnival has a lot of value, and on the surface they are right most of the time, but if you scratch a little below that surface, the real truth will emerge.

Our next two cruises that we have booked for next year are on the Carnival Freedom for eight days at the end of January and on the Celebrity Equinox for 10 days over Thanksgiving 2015. We have an OV cabin on the Equinox with the drinks package included as part of pick your perk and an additional 150 OBC from Celebrity as a result of a 4 day promotion at the end of August. On the Freedom, we have an inside cabin up on the Promenade deck that we got as a result of a pick any cabin within your category promotion. When you factor in the addition of the Cheers package, we're paying about 130/day for both cruises including port and taxes. The real value comes in when you realize that we have that extra 150 in OBC and the drinks package on Celebrity includes coffee drinks, fresh squeezed juices and bottled water, whereas the Cheers package on Carnival does not include those items.

So, in this comparison, X is the real value because of the pick your perk and the timeliness of our booking gained us an additional 150 in OBC.

wow. that is dearer than I thought. We keep bemoaning in OZ that we pay more for cruises, but that is definitely on par with what we pay. Thank you for the price/s comparison. Good to hear an end result total costing. :) I reckon you will love both cruises. I hope you do anyway!
