  1. The difference is going into a shop or restaurant in the UK  you would then go home not into the ships close confines to spread or pick up germs.

The problem, as I see it, is that if you catch Covid you will be offloaded at the next port and quarantined and obviously there is more risk of catching Covid if you are no longer in a bubble. It looks as though  insurance would probably not cover your companion so do they stay on the ship and return to Southampton, if they are allowed to.

I wonder if we have more Covid cases because we test more? I've searched but have not found any data on the testing ratio

  2. From 1 November we can now go ashore independently, subject to local protocols. I was looking forward to the lifting of this restriction but now it's happening I am feeling a bit apprehensive. How do you all feel about stepping outside your Saga bubble?

  3. We booked via a TA and got a 7% discount. Well worth putting up with not being able to access the booking on the web.

The wait for Saga to answer the phone is unacceptable whatever their problems. I wonder how many people gave up and booked with a different company.

  4. Thank you for taking the time to post Kentish Lass. Yes the  Isles of Scilly are well worth a visit, we had a couple of holidays there in the distant past.

    Just a few of questions.

    What time did you board?

Where and when did you have to wear a mask?

Where you able to wander around any of the ports on your own?

  5. I see now. Obviously if its only a few pounds different then it's much better to keep control but a few hundred each then it's a different ball game.

I'm only just considering a Saga cruise at the moment but take on board Glenndale's point about the price going up as more cabins are sold. I've not yet spoken to  our TA so don't know if the prices on their web site are "live".

Some years ago a subsidiary of Saga had a ship called Spirit of Adventure, just under 10000 tons. We cruised with them to Antarctica so I don't think we qualify for the new to Saga discount.

Thank you all for taking the time to respond.

  6. Although I used a TA it was not the one in Chorley and my T&Cs are those as stated on O's web site.

My credit card payment went directly to O and the refund for the first cruise was directly from them.

Not all the delays in refunds can be laid at TAs doors. It appears that O are deliberately targeting European customers for use as interest free loans.

    Oceania is the problem
