  1. We are on the Ruby Princess, which stops at Juneau from 12:30pm-10pm. Our gold mine tour is from 2:30-4:45. We can go to Mt Roberts tram anytime. I'd like to get the shuttle to Mendenhall as well. Am I trying to pack too much in? I know the shuttles from mendenhall stop at 6, but I'd be willing to call a cab, since our ship doesn't leave until 10pm anyway. Advice? Thanks!

  2. Thanks everyone for the tips! We are staying with friends that have a house in seattle, I haven't asked them but I'm assuming they have parking. Will ask them before I book the car. As far as the mini van goes, none of the cruise terminal agencies seem to have one available. They only offer suvs like the hyundai santa fe. As long as it holds our luggage and 3 people that's fine with me.:)

  3. If I use one of the rental agencies that have kiosks at pier 91, do they allow you to return the car at the airport? Also, I'm getting quotes of about $500 give or take for a sunday -thursday in August for an suv (There's 3 of us and we'll have alot of luggage). Is this right? Seems kinda expensive.

  4. We are staying in Jersey city pre cruise. My dh is driving us up and staying with us for pre cruise, but not going on the cruise with us. How bad would the traffic be on Sunday morning if he drove us into the city to drop us off at the pier? (Breakaway at Manhattan Cruise Terminal). We were thinking about the Path train, and then a taxi to the port, but I'm starting to wonder if that would be a real hassle, especially with luggage.

  5. There's a shopping center called "McHenry Row" near the cruise port and it has a wine shop. I don't think it's within walking distance, though. Maybe you can get your taxi to stop there before taking you to the cruise port. Another alternative is what I do: I pack it in my check in luggage and fly with it if it doesn't put my luggage over weight. I've never had a breakage. I have wine bottle protectors-you can get them on Amazon by searching for wine bottle travel bag. Hope this helps.:)

  6. We are in the same situation, dcscorp1! We are driving up from Maryland to go on the Breakaway on March 29th. When we travel to NYC, we always stay in Jersey City, NJ. There's a Westin, a Doubletree, and a Courtyard right next to the Pavonia/Newport PATH station that takes you right into the city. It's very easy to get to from the Jersey Turnpike, and not far from the entrance to the Holland tunnel. I would suggest doing this, that way you can make the most of your saturday. Traffic going into the city is a nightmare. I'd save that for Sunday morning when you are going to the pier to park. We never have a problem checking into the hotel early. Hope this helps.:)

  7. Thanks to everyone for the suggestions! One more question, regarding the PATH train. If I were to go from jersey city (the newport/pavonia stop) into the city via PATH train to 33rd street (then catch a cab to the port), are they also ok with luggage on those trains? I was thinking about having my DH drive me and my son up the day before to Jersey City, which is where we usually stay when going into the city anyway.

  8. I'm taking amtrak from Washington, DC to New York City (Penn Station) for a cruise on March 29th. Cruise departs at 3pm. What's the latest the train should arrive to get to the cruise on time? Also, When the cruise comes back, it arrives at 8am on April 5th. What's the earliest I should book a train for?

How strict are they with the carry on luggage on Amtrak? I have a suitcase that might be an inch or 2 over their measurement limit. Are there places to fit suitcases that aren't overhead? (I know there is no checked luggage on this particular route.)

    Thanks!
