  1. So are double shots allowed on an unlimited beverage package? I don't ask for the sake of sharing, but for a friend I know who orders drinks with double shots. Anyone know? My friend is going on a cruise next month and if this is allowed, it could save him some good money over the 7 nights.

In August when I had the Premium Package on Grandeur otS they were NOT. The package covers drinks up to $10, when you double a drink the price typically goes over that. You might be able to get away with it on rail/call/well brands though. If your buddy orders doubles because he likes them strong, order the singles "short" they'll have less mixer.

  2. Here's what I want to do:

From the time I leave my house until getting back, I want to use one of the GPS tracking apps to track me. Obviously, if I use data on board that's going to cost me more than the GNP of several small countries. I have a GPS program that will do it but won't show me a map. I want to see myself on a map...even if it's at a giant scale.

Thoughts? I have two months to figure it out so plenty of time for trial and error.

  3. It's a great idea BUT the worst thing about AI's is that wristband and really bad tan lines :(

HAHA I'd probably wear it for the tan line. You should see me halfway through summer. I ride a bicycle a lot and never take off my watch. The lines I develop...in sheer number are mind blowing.

The on topic portion of this post:

I'm leery and distrustful of RFID. You should see what happened the time Mythbusters attempted to do something with it.

  4. I've not heard of a 20 minute rule for alcoholic beverages on Royal. I believe another poster was talking about a different cruise line.

As far as time between drinks...August of last year I sat down at the bar, ordered a shot, downed it, ordered a shot, downed it, ordered a drink, nursed it. Five minutes?

  5. Excusez-moi! It must be true what they say about French women, they do not age! :)

I agree about the ships being solo friendly. I told my friend that I couldn't imagine leaving my hotel room in say, Myrtle Beach, at 2am and roaming the streets, but, I wouldn't think twice on a cruise.

I still have NOT been to the Diamond Lounge! Every cruise I say I will, but, then the cruise gets in the way. :D

Well, I have some bad news. My Alaska cruise is in jeopardy. I found out Wednesday that I am losing my job. It is a drugstore and the owner sold it to a Walgreens. We close on Tuesday January 21. I have interviewed with Walgreens and hopefully, will get hired on there. Then, I would have to find out their policies on time off. My final payment isn't due till March, so, I have time to think. I am sure everything will work out for the best. :)

Walgreens has an image to uphold. As such, I'd think coming in and buying up a small town shop then firing the staff to rehire new ones...not good for said image. Unless you're super high up the management chain, I'd say your job is probably safe. And if something happens and you don't get to keep your job...post that here, Facebook and every other forum you frequent with documentation. Because that's terrible policy and I, for one, would never shop there again (but I'll continue shopping at Walmart...because they're evil and have their hooks in me).

  6. Most TA's I know of take credit cards, let the client know that the card will be used just before the due date, in case of any problems, and the card is run with the cruise line, never the Travel Agency. At least that has been my experience.

    Rick

Which makes perfect sense. The OP sounds like he's being asked to pay the balance though, not provide a future use CC. If the OP comes along and clears it up saying that's the case, then sweet; no harm, no foul. On the other hand if it's not what it is...then the TA is shady.

  7. How far in advance have your travel agents asked you to pay for you RCCL cruise? If you have booked through an agent

Bearing in mind RCCL states 57 days prior to embarkation the final sum must be paid.

We booked this week and have been asked to pay the FULL SUM before the end of next week! Some 9 weeks before RCCL want the payment!

Money is not an issue I just think the travel agents are trying to be a bit crafty, especially as we have booked for 10 people!

This is called "co-mingling" and in real estate it used to be a HUGE con until the government stepped in. Basically what they're doing is sitting on your $15k-$20k and letting it accrue interest or they're investing it, short term lending it, or any number of things that line their pockets but save you no money. It may not seem like a lot of money, but as Einstein is probably misattributed of saying "there's no more powerful force than that of compound interest."

I would out the TA and NEVER EVER use them again.

  8. Ah thanks! I'll tell you, I havent heard great things about the Romance Department. It's too bad they can't do a better job. Keep calling, be flexible and it will all work out. Maybe bring your own photographer? I see you have 70 people sailing.....just thinking out loud...

I like this idea. I took better pictures using an old Nikon D40 than their photogs running around blinding everyone with the flash and washing everything out. I'd hope they give something better for a wedding than those $20 prints from the shop. Best of luck!

  9. Are you guys saying that if my DH wants the package with the beer (select package) i have to have it too even though i was going to go for the package with the mocktails soda etc (Royal replenish) ?

    Hummmmm:(

No we are not :) He can get whatever package he wants and you can get whatever package you want or none at all :D But someone did point out that the highest package seemed a bit ridiculous and to this, all I can say is do your own math. For me it's not something I'd do.

  10. Because we are Diamond Plus we can get free drinks every night in the CL so we never considered the beverage package as we usually don't drink that much anyhow. But that being said we are doing a 13 night TA in May on the Liberty of the Seas with many sea days and the package is free for both my wife and me. So we decided to do it but I did have to give up our C&A balcony discount of $325. So this time will be a great time to try it.

How did you swing the free package? Is that a perk to being Diamond Plus?

  11. You'll have to do the math yourself for yourself, but for me it had two things going for it:

    1) I drink Captain and Coke. Those are $8 each on board. When I get bored I change it up with funny frozen beverages, $8-$10 each. So it was a no brainer. I'm also young enough where I still enjoy binge drinking at the clubs/bars...at the bar up the road during happy hour I can rack up a $50 tab before tip easily. Even if I skip a day or two drinking it'll pay for itself.

    2) Budget. It's nice not having to pay attention to what I'm spending on booze, soda, bottled water. Buy once, cry once. Set it and forget it. Pick your cliche, it's still really nice knowing that I can literally walk on board and not spend another penny if I so choose.

Another amusing caveat I found on my one cruise was that mimosas were not covered. Orange juice and champagne were though. My friend looked at the bartender, ordered the above and an empty glass. Poured them together herself and the bartender just chuckled.

  12. I need a recent time window for embarkation on Grandeur of the Seas for jan 31,2014,as I can't seem to find that on their website.if anyone knows please tell me

    As of August, 2013:

We showed up at 9am in our car. We were 4th in line lol. Waited until 10am, parked and got moving through security etc. Had my first drink in my hand by 1130. Also, I *think* my aunt and uncle dropped my grandparents off at security earlier but they weren't allowed in until 10am.

  13. On my first cruise we hemmed and hawed about getting the package. Then we got on board, I ordered a Captain and coke, she ordered Ketel One and we got our bill for $20. IMMEDIATELY went to get the packages.

As far as service went I found that if I were drinking heavily I'd have to just send the wandering server off with my card every time he brought me something back (the drinks are a bit light) so the turn around time wasn't too bad. If I went straight to a bartender (the Solarium was our favorite) we were taken care of as we were in line.

The only time I had issues was in the MDR...sometimes seemed impossible to get a drink and when I did the turn around was really slow. We'd usually just stop at the bar in the Centrium beforehand and grab one, chat and make our way to dinner.
