Well, I just think this is a sign of Celebrity trying to go back to its roots as a mass market cruise line. Trying to nickel and dime the guests is a hallmark of mass market lines. Remember who Celebrity’s parent company is — RCCL — the worst nickel and dimer of all !

Agreed! they really were a notch above the other mass market lines for a while ! (And this coming from two former Radisson Seven Seas addicts!!)

We were in New Zealand when my husband's back tooth caused so much pain that we considered flying back to Texas.   We contacted the ship medical but were told they could not help.   BUT - The shore information center in Wellington, heard our story and one of the agents called HIS dentist and arranged for an uber to take us to his dentist's office.  They did a root canal and a temporary fill with antibiotics and we were able to complete the cruise.  The total charge from the Wellington dentist was only $350 - which our cruise insurance paid.   We have forever been faithful to get trip insurance with every cruise.   So thankful for the shore agent.

Well I have JUST paid over $2000 CAD  for sore tooth visit/broken tooth visit/emergency visit/emerg visit to edontist for emergency root canal…… Ahead this month….more big $$$….Long appointment, grinding the tooth for a crown and then the appointment for the crown placement. Imagine all the money on one tooth aargh.

  3. In “Manage my booking” I cannot find an option to purchase the “Wine” package. In a search, Celebrity still advertises “Best wine package afloat”. What am I doing wrong? Or has this been discontinued?  I sure hope not!

    Thanks for any information/advice.

Because this gets asked so often I've compiled a list of things to spend OBC on. The only thing I know of now that you CAN'T buy with OBC is a deposit on a Future Cruise. You need a credit card for that.  Also, there may be some card game in the casino with a cash only buy-in.   If they do a fundraiser, like selling t-shirts to “save the reefs” and the like, expect to need cash for that.  Otherwise, here you go:

    *Acupuncture

    *Airport transfers

    *Alcove Rental (some ships)

*Apple products etc. and Ilounge classes

    *Art Auction Purchases

    *Babysitting

    *Barber Shop services

    *Behind the Scenes Tours

*Beverages -- Alcoholic, carbonated soft drinks, specialty coffees and teas, bottled water — if not in your package, also beverages above your package limits

*Bingo and Deal or No Deal

    *Bottles of wine

    *Casino

    *Chef’s Table

*Corkage charged if you bring your own bottles of wine to the MDR

    *Duty free liquor and cigarettes

*Extra cost entrees and other items in Main Dining Room and specialty restaurants

    *Extend Your Stay program

    *Fitness classes

    *Flowers

    *Gelato

*Gift shop souvenirs, purses, watches, cosmetics, clothing, jewelry, etc.

    *Gratuities, and extra gratuities

*Guests dining with you in Luminae (applies to Suite Passengers only)

    *Guest entertainers' CD's and DVD's

    *Hair and nail salon

*Hollywood hot glass experiences (some ships)

*Internet if not in your package, also Internet upcharges

    *Laundry/pressing/drycleaning

    *Luggage Valet

    *Martini Flights

    *Medical Center purchases

Possibly.  However, there are now 2 different types of vaccines available, with 2-3 more coming soon.  If someone is allergic to one, they probably won't be allergic to another.  For those few people who are allergic to what's available right now, there are options.  The types of vaccines out and being developed are Nucleic Acid (Moderna and Pfizer), Adenovirus Vector (Johnson & Johnson & AstraZeneca), and Recombinant Protein and Adjuvant (Sanofi and Novavax).  So odds of someone being allergic to all of those is highly unlikely and I would say essentially zero.

However, the needs of the many far outweigh the needs of the few.  If you want to travel, get vaccinated.  Not just to protect yourself, but others.

    Right on!

There are a couple of crew members that post videos on youtube that have/are returning to work on a cruise ship, not X  ships though.

Gilly and the Girl.....my favourite entertainment duo...have posted some videos on youtube.  Always nice to see and hear them, SUCH talent.

Great to see on the U.S. news today that 1 million have now been vaccinated in our country and only 3 have had severe allergic reactions.   Sounds like the odds are good that we can be vaccinated without much chance of an allergic reaction.   Can’t wait to get mine.

I feel the same....bring it on!

I have thought a lot about this topic, and I have concluded I believe we WILL have to be vaccinated before ever cruising again.   Right or wrong, making us happy or sad, they will have no other choice.....if they want to actually stop in any ports!

Public Health safety cannot afford to grant exceptions.  And it sucks for the, lets say 1% of cruisers who desperately WANT to get vaccinated, but for personal reasons cannot.  But I don’t see cruise lines ever ba in business without this requirement.

I would hope that proof of vaccination would be required. Even to the point of having to produce that documentation at time of final payment. I just don't think the port agents should have to deal with the anti vaxxer at the gate who demands their "rights" be respected. Of course the other people's "rights" to of safety and mitigation of risk really don't matter🤔

Yes, proof required at time of final payment, that would be perfect.

I hope all cruise lines adopt the no boarding if not vaccinated policy for the safety of all.  I do not want any anti-vaxers on my cruise possibly infected everyone.  Even with an available vaccine, I can see cruise lines still doing instant Covid testing before boarding at the departure ports.

I no longer see Covid in the same light after losing a good friend yesterday to the virus. My friend made the mistake of having  knee replacement surgery 2 weeks ago where he contracted the virus.

Terry I am very sorry for the loss of your friend.  I have also lost loved ones, including my beautiful Mum.  So Covid has been VERY “real” to me since day 1.

  10. Qantas Airlines has announced that in order to board one of their flights in the future, every passenger MUST have been vaccinated against Covid19.  Word in the air (hahaha as opposed to word on the street....I amuse myself) is that several airlines plan to follow suit.  This really makes the world of anti-vaxers much smaller.

Do you think Cruise lines will enforce this as well?  If you want on board, you have to show proof of vaccination?

  11. Keep us posted with your final thoughts re: your cruise, disembarkation etc.  Thank you for allowing us to sail along with you.  I miss cruising so much.  But, I don’t need a Hurtigrutinesque experience (finding out after You get home that many crew had Covid 19).  So I shall live vicariously through everyone who cruises!!

The municipality that I live in (Ontario, Canada), masks are mandatory.  Halton Hills (our neighbours), it is not mandatory.   Mandatory / Non-mandatory - it’s a whatever.   In both counties / municipalities, no one is throwing a fit and mostly everyone wear masks voluntarily.   If you are not  masked, you look like the odd apple in the bunch of oranges.

The challenge now is to make it fashionable (part of your ensemble), it’s not IF to wear a mask, it’s how - LOL!

i have a mask for most of my outfits.  And in case I get overseas, many Canadian ones, so people don’t ask where in the US I live lol. I also got some Toronto Maple Leafs and Toronto Raptors masks. Might as well make it fun, it is here for a while yet!

I am so sorry..... you've had more than your share of sad events to deal with.

thank you.  I am sorry I  “vetted” on here.  I was feeling very sorry for myself, and there may have been some Pinot Grigio in the equation....

  15. I was so excited when the EU announced on June 30th that it was opening its borders, sans quarantine, to Canadians, I immediately booked a flight to Italy, July 9-19.  I wasn’t worried about wearing masks and sanitizing hands constantly, I miss Italy, and wanted to visit Toscana during peak sunflower season, and enjoy a relatively tourist free Italy.  And try to come to terms with missing my grandsons Christening (in the UK in April), miss my girls trip to Italy in May, a family reunion in Croatia in June, my Mum dying of Covid in May.....and then the announcement that my daughter’s wedding had to be postponed.  Really felt this trip would help me heal.

Of course, the very next day, Italy announced it would NOT be joining the other EU countries in this....that we would still have to quarantine.  And I have to cancel again. And just for kicks, my beautiful 13 year old dog died later that night.

Sigh.  2020 has officially defeated me.

Hi, I’m the guy who started this topic over a year ago. Just wondering if your feelings about eating while in a buffet line have changed?

This is awesome, well played!  I didn’t actually answer last year, but buffets make me kind of sick (since that time I saw a kid sneeze on food, and be whisked away by Mummy).  So either year.......ugh, no, do not chow down until you sit down.
