  1. Hi, my son will be almost 12 when we sail on Seaside next May and I just wondered if anyone knows how strict they are on the age restrictions for the kids club? My son hates Lego, is very sporty and old for his age so would fit better with the older kids club (12-14) rather than the one he is supposed to be in, I really want him to get the most from his holiday and I think he will be bored in the age appropriate kids club.

    Many thanks

Hi, I feel the same way about my son. He will be 14 when we go and I wonder if he would do better in the teen Club than 12-14. It’s hard to get him to spend time there anyway on cruises. It’s always hard because kids are all different.

  2. This could be interesting 58 Aurea Suites, 78 Aurea Balconies with a total of maybe 350 guests some of which will be kids who are not allowed up there plus others who might pay, sure I heard last week that there would be around 250 sun loungers! ....

My son will be 14 and that will not be fun if we cannot all use the solarium Area. He would not be a disruption. We shall see!

oh well - still very excited...

I just tried on the app and it won’t let me. Says only for Meraviglia at this time.

  5. So, in June I did the loyalty match program and came in as a black member - matching 7 cruises (52points) from Princess. I am cruising Seaside in April and have now found that I have been downgraded to Gold with no notification. Has this happened to anyone else?

7 cruises on Princess would be Platinum in their program. That’s what I am and I was matched to Gold. I think it was incorrect the first time and they caught their mistake.

  6. I've seen two people ask here, but no responses. Anyone know if UBD can be done for 3 or 4 people? I have 4 in our cabin, including 2 kids, but UBD in the Cruise Personalizer only says for 2.

You can do it for 4 people, I don’t think 3. Just purchase 2 packages and when you set it up on board they will work out the details. We had UBD on the Emerald with my parents as they had a suite with a balcony large enough for all 4 and purchased it this way.

  7. The Aurea aft suites will not show up as an option for fewer than 4 passengers. They will let you book them if you call, but they warn you that you may be moved.

Is this something new? I have two bookings for 2018 on the Seaside in an aft suite for 2. I booked them when bookings first opened. No one ever said anything about being bumped. Then again, I’ve been bumped before out of balconies without any reason.

Yes it can and will happen. We had 3 booked in an Aurea suite for 5 and they did it. My TA fought for 2 weeks and finally got my room back. Many are not as lucky. I would frequently check your booking.

  8. I just hope it’s a great spa. We enjoy having access and that’s part of why we booked Aurea on Seaside. We purchased the spa access on Koningsdam (HAL) and used it everyday. Love seeing the videos posted each day by Captain Scala. We are excited for 1/27/18!

  9. I wish I could say I was in that situation. However, I did have a sister named Cruise'nMaMa and after she graduated high school I never saw her again. You couldn't be the same person, could you? If so, do you have babysitting availability during that timeframe??? ;)

If they were to only miss a partial week, say a max of 3 days I'd be into it. However, I just can't take them out for a full 5 day school week. This is my daughter's first year of high school and my son's first year of middle school. I just don't want them to miss that much. Not judging, but I also have my reasons.

At any rate, let me know how your adventure is on Seaside in January. I hope you have an amazing time. Spin the slots a time or two for me. And take pics, lots of them!

Haha....sorry not your long lost sister and totally understand about the kids. Bummer you can’t go! I will definitely post about the trip. My first with MSC.

  10. Sounds like it’s time to call on close family members (I.e. grandparents if possible) to do some extended babysitting! Or take the kids out of school. If they are young, it’s not a big deal. My parents did when I was a kid all the time. My first was 8 years old and almost every year til I graduated high school. I’m taking my 8th grader out to go on Seaside in January 2018. I don’t vacation during school breaks for many reasons.

  11. Is anyone else as confused as I am by the front and what the Aurea Grand Suites will have for balconies? You can see the part in the center that is open. Is that all for the center suite? I cannot tell if the rest is just windows or what. To me it looks like the corner 1 bedroom suites do not have balcony on the front.

  12. Hi just found out that MSC changed the itinerary from eastern to western. Also changed my booking to a group booking, changed my room, changed my dining time and the purchases I made did not follow. All this without notifiing me. AArrgh!

Contacted my TA. Waiting for an answer

    Good luck!

  13. I don’t believe the double booking thing. MSC has terrible systems and I’ve heard the Inventory Management group will move people out and around if their group is less than the max capacity of that room. My booking showed my Aurea Suite from Feb 2017 when I booked until Sept 29th when they changed it to a Guarantee. They first tried to tell me I changed it, then said it was my TA and then finally admitted they were “updating itineraries” and it was an error. Ok fine an error then give me my room back. They said no. It took 2 weeks and me deciding to cancel to get it back. I’m sorry but I think there is more at play than just “errors” and double booking.

  14. I've had a room booked for a while now for my 5th wedding anniversary cruise and it would also be our first on MSC. My wife and I really liked what we have read about the Yacht Club and the Seaside, so we took the plunge and booked our cruise for Nov 24, 2018. Actually thought that far out that we might just get lucky and be able to book the Royal Suite (YC3). Of course, it sells fast and was unavailable. So we ended up booking a Deluxe Suite (YC1). This was earlier this year in April. In July, my wife had a gut feeling I should check again on the Royal Suite and to our amazement it was there. We were so elated. We booked it!!!!

Fast forward to today, 3 months later. I received a phone call from MSC saying they overbooked the Royal Suite and the other party has paid in full so we were downgraded to a YC1 room. As you can imagine, we are not too happy about this. The lady who called informed me that to accommodate this inconvenience, we were given on board credit. Turns out that amount is only $150. I was so mad and furious, I immediately told her to cancel the cruise. $150 bucks? Are you kidding me?

As of 4 hours after that phone call, my reservation still shows to be active online (maybe it updates overnight). And to further make things worse, the booking is now at a higher rate than what I had originally booked the YC1. So, you're gonna downgrade my room, give me only $150 and charge me more for that same room category than I originally booked? I don't think so!!

So done with MSC before we ever got started. Will likely never sail on their line due to this poor taste in my mouth.

Here is what I am guessing happened because it happened to me recently. MSC released someone’s Royal Suite back to being available. You and your wife picked it up by sheer luck. Those poor people checked their booking and found their room gone. They promptly called MSC, went back and forth on it and said they would cancel. MSC gave them their room back and now moved on down the line to deal with a different set of unhappy people. I was checking my booking on a regular basis because of hearing this and all of a sudden my 2-bedroom Aurea Grand Suite was gone. My TA called multiple times over almost 2 weeks and finally got a Supervisor to give it back only after I decided to cancel. We are going since they got my room back but if MSC keeps pulling stuff like this in regards to rooms, it will likely be our only and I don’t think they will do well expanding in North America. I’m sorry to hear your trip got ruined by them. I’m worried ours will disappear again between now and January when we go.

  15. I have been cruising for a very long time and with many lines. Moving my cabin has never happened to me until this. It seems like MSC cares more about maximum capacity than happy customers. You would think happy customers would be more important since they are trying to break into and gain in the North American market. It’s not about that first time customer as much as it is about getting that customer to repeat and sail again. I also get the right to move someone but they didn’t even move me to an actual cabin, just a Guarantee. We didn’t cancel since we got it back and are going to try the cruise with MSC but if I can’t pick and retain my cabin in the future then it might be my only one. I am nervous they will take the room from me again in the next few months until we go!

  16. Glad to hear you got your cabin back. I was worried they would try that with my booking, cabin 12001, Thanksgiving 2018, three people. We've had the one bedroom Aurea before, and while it was great for two, it isn't configured to share with another adult. Hope you will be writing a review with pictures.

Thanks! I definitely will with pictures since they haven’t come out with many!

  17. Actually, Cruis'nMaMa, it was reading your post that made me go into our booking(s), and once again get totally frustrated with their website.

Couldn't believe what they'd done to you, so I was double-checking that our cabins were still what we'd booked, and then I got all riled up over the other issue of how inept and feckless they are with their website.

Hope you get a good outcome, but isn't it awful and disgraceful that you're even going through this?

Didn’t know if you saw my latest update but today my TA emailed me and said I got my cabin back! I checked online and indeed it is back. I’m guessing the fact that I was going to cancel got someone motivated. Now I need to hope it doesn’t happen again between now and January!

  18. My dad’s theory is that since pricing has gone up, they took the room and resold it for more $$.

I would go with him on that, sorry to hear they messed you about, certainly not going to win friends and influence people if they continue with this kind of nonsense.

Update - I told my TA I was canceling the cruise and not taking the “upgrade” they offered. Today She sent me an email and said I got my cabin 14001 back and I checked my booking. It is back. She is out of the office and will call me when she gets back in. I am completely surprised and will be interested to hear what she has to say about it.

  19. I wish you the best of luck. (y)

The Grand Suite problem was bad enough when people who thought that they were getting what MSC was selling (2br/2ba) found out that most of the suites were 1br/1ba. it's even worse that people who actually got what they deserved (2br/2ba) are "accidentally" being moved out.

I didn't book a GS but I still worry about losing my exact suite at the last minute.

Well everyone I am apparently not getting my room back and I am so disappointed. They offered a “upgrade” to one of the Whirlpool Suites... half the room size and personally I don’t like the locations. They won’t tell my TA which cabin either unless I agree to the upgrade. What’s to say it won’t happen to me again before January?? I feel like I am not being treated well and this was their screw up. My dad’s theory is that since pricing has gone up, they took the room and resold it for more $$. Oh well. We are likely going to cancel and choose something else because this experience just didn’t sit well with me.
