  1. Was this scheduled? Or emergency?

Well Originally she was supposed to be doing the Korea itinerary this week by going to Seoul and Busan however, due to China having that feud with Korea, she cancelled all the cruises that were supposed to go to Korea and just slotting a drydock into one of the cancelled cruises schedules. She will be out by Wednesday.

  2. The Press Release from Royal Caribbean today. Mariner of the Seas repositioning to Miami after going to Dubai and Barcelona.

    https://www.royalcaribbeanpresscenter.com/press-release/1317/royal-caribbeans-newest-quantum-ultra-class-ship-to-sail-from-asia-pacific-in-2019/

Oh well guess the reports were true. So long Mariner Of The Seas. We will miss you! :loudcry::loudcry:

That's deployment cut for Australia and Singapore!

  3. Ovation is going back to Australia end November 2017 via a re-positioning cruise which stops in Singapore. It only has one round trip Singapore sailing in 2018 April before it sails off to Tianjin.

Voyager is also going back to Australia as well in October.

Quantum will probably remain in China.

Now i'm worried Mariner will indeed go back to Europe. This means cutting capacity in Singapore.

  4. Coming back to read this review again (I just skimmed through the first time). Did I read correctly that both machines in Sorrento's are also out of service? So only one machine in Seaplex is working now?

Sorrentos machines are working at least they are on my cruise which is from the 24 to 29 only the Windjammer one was under maintenance.

If you play bumper cars during a port day which only happens from 5pm to 8.30pm then you will have lots of free runs with the cars because there was no queue.

  5. We are in Athens on the 22nd October 17 and are hoping to get to the Acropolis early as our ship docks at 6am. We are hoping to get the first bus. Does the X80 bus runs till end of October and how far is the bus from the Cruise Terminal? I understand from previous threads that it requires a fair bit of walk to get to the bus after exiting the cruise terminal? Thank you

  6. Thank you for your very detailed review! It brought back a lot of memories of my Ovation cruise this past January sailing out of Sydney. It seems like there are only minor differences between the Singapore and Sydney cruises, so your review will be a great resource for all future Ovation cruisers. I can't believe the freestyle coke machine in Windjammer is still not fixed since January!

I was on the cruise after this. And I can confirm the Windjammer Freestyle machine is still not repaired. They had 2 officers looking at it on my cruise. Then they put up a sign saying that its under maintenance. If you are going on the Ovation once it return to Australia, you can check it out. who knows maybe its still not fixed yet.

  7. Hi,I think another poster hit the nail on the head when she said it is probably to avoid the typhoon season, cheers,Brian.

Hi, Make sense, but don't you think Princess would have already figured out the typhoon season long before they decided to build the ship to specifically cater to the Chinese market? And if they wanted to escape the typhoon season, they wouldn't have stayed in China and would have re-position her to Australia in 2017 during the winter season in China (summer season in Australia)

  8. I was thinking the same thing too. Why would Princess Cruises build a ship specifically made for China only to bring it down to Australia?

The answer I'm getting is due to overestimation of the growth in the China market and with the boycott of Korea from China, majestic has little itineraries to offer.

Royal does the same season change to, with their ships re-positioning to Singapore or Australia from Sep to March. The thing is whether Princess is sending Majestic to challenge Ovation in Australia?

Then you have to wonder if NCL will do the same thing with Norwegian Joy too?

  9. Funny how people on cc are always taking a little corner of the world and a common practice there and want to apply it to all the rest of the world.

I just say they don't get out much

Well to be fair, It's US and their tipping policy culture that wants to apply to the rest of the world. So if the rest of the world doesn't tip, people in the USA will obviously not be happy as you can see from the numerous tipping threads and quotes.

In my opinion, I think tipping is necessary as it rewards the crew for their hard work and being far away from their families. I have talked to the crew members before and do empathize with them. Additional tipping is when the crew goes beyond the basic level of service they are required to provide or what RCL calls WOW service. If the service is bad like the others have said, talk to the manager and if it still can't be solved then remove or reduce the tips. If you are telling me that if the service is bad and after trying all avenues in order to make it right and we are still required to tip, then I think it's wrong.

Btw it's a person right whether to include Tip/gratuities or not. They paid money for the cruise and it's their call. And to see quotes like "If you don't tip, then don't cruise?" Oh please, look around at all the Beverage/ Room service 7.95 thread to name a few; puts the tipping thread to shame.

  10. At least till 2019

Part of Radiance Schedule ( I'm guessing this is the Australia Top end Itinerary) Probably Bali is scheduled

Radiance Of The Seas is in Perth on 20th march 2019

Radiance Of The Seas is in Darwin on the 28th march 2019

Raidance Of The Seas is overnighting in Carins on 31 March 2019 and leaving on 1st April 2019 ( Tender)

Voyager Of The Seas is in Cairns on 20 April 2019 on a repositioning back to Singapore ( Previous Port: Airlie Beach, Next Port: Darwin 23 April)

  11. Tip: Maybe before you book this activity, enquire first on what will be served during the special lunch after the tour. If you like the menu then great! If not then is just the tour that you are paying for.

Lovely pictures! It looks like an interesting activity. Was it real champagne or sparkling wine?
Was it GOOD champagne as in quality?

Thanks! Glad you like it! Well for the champagne question, they used Hardy's The Riddle Sparkling Wine from Australia. So it's not really champagne. I guess for 30USD they can't give you real champagne. For whether it's good quality or not; it seems okay but then again it's sparkling wine and not champagne.

Manage to get a picture of the Sparkling Wine or so-called Champagne they used. Not sure if the Captain's Reception uses the same.

@hdowney: Yup! For USD 30/35, the lunch menu is already worth the money. Was hoping for Baked Alaska though. They said the desert was a Classic RCL Desert.

@widallas: Thanks! Glad you like it!

  12. Thumbs up from the one of the Waiter with baskets of bread line up in rows beside him

The Menu items. This is what the USD 35 is for! And the good thing is, you can order unlimited lobsters!

  13. The Desert Section! Currently the Chefs are making the farewell Cake.

    IMG_4224_zpsyhlk7fmi.jpg

This time, the farewell cake is in the shape of the Singapore Flag, which the Ovation of The Seas is currently homeporting! The Chinese words can be translated into "Thank You for sailing with the Ovation Of The Seas" Last 5 Chinese characters on the cake is Ovation Of The Seas in Chinese.
