  1. We had 2 connecting balconies for 4 people on the GA last year. I loved having 2 cabins, it meant 2 bathrooms, and 2 tvs, 2 balconies, etc.

Now, this was before the sf promo, but a suite was still way more than 2 cabins, and I didn't see how the suite we would get would be that much better than one regular cabin. But I also did not care about the butler or concierge, etc. So my vote is 2 connecting cabins! :)

I am sure it will be great either way! :) Have a great cruise

  2. My 2 daughters each decorated a cake on the GA last year, so I paid twice, lol

They had a good time, but I thought it was expensive and it did not last that long. That being said, they had a good time, we enjoyed one the cakes (2 was too many for the 4 of us) and my younger daughter has her apron hung up on her door at home. I would not do it again, or if we ever did, I would make them share. However, I think they would be fine not doing it again, sort of a "bucket list" item, they would most likely not feel the need to do it again.

We did not sign up too much in advance, but it was still relatively new at the time, so I would most likely plan to sign up as soon as you could. I will try and get a picture of the apron on here, it's white with Carlo's logo across the front in red and black

  3. I agree with the OP, I went on my first cruise last year (Getaway over Easter, leaving the day before), and took my 3 kids (husband did come on this trip). we had forward adjoining balconies on Deck 11. We had a fabulous time, I was so excited to think I had found another great way for us to vacation as a family, etc. I paid about $800 pp, including taxes and fees, and got udp free.

Fast forward to this year, the prices are about double, in some cases more than double, per person in the $1500 range before taxes and port fees. It's tough for me to see the value when I obviously got such a good deal last year. I guess I did not realize then, that it was a deal! It disappoints me, and I keep checking. We did not go on a cruise this spring break and so now I am checking the summer, but wow! what a price difference. It seems that other cruise lines have followed suit, I remain hopeful!

  4. Most likely, yes, however Carnival has one of the most restrictive booking policies in that regard that I have encountered.

I was looking at adjoining balconies with one person in one and 2 people in the other, and although there were several available they were not available to me because of the numbers. They were reserving those cabins for at least 3, so unless I wanted to pay for 3 I could not get them. It was frustrating, because I had never encountered that on other lines, even if the room had room for 4, and I was paying for one or 2 (with single supplement), it was no problem.

However, I would guess that 3 would be sufficient for that room

  5. I know this might totally be off topic, since you talked to people at NCL and were told you would be charged but,

I was on the first sailing on the GA last year where Illusionarium was included with UDP (that I had gotten for "free"), when I went online to book, it showed a price I would be charged until I went all the way through to booking it, when it zeroed out. Is it possible that is happening to you? I am hopeful! I think it is terrible to not give people notice and change after they have made decisions based on what is advertised

  6. My kids ages 13, 10, and 8 did not like the kids club and went to lots of entertainment at night. We were usually done by 10 or so and always went to the family friendly versions.

We were on the Getaway and they loved the dueling piano bar, the game shows, and the piano bar, etc. We had lots of fun and no one ever said anything, we also went to the early comedy show one night and the ice bar with no problem.

  7. Obviously, you have to do what you have to do. I could not imagine it, with my inlaws or my parents

As it is, I have 3 kids (husband does not enjoy cruising) and I get 2 cabins for the 4 of us.

I know people say, you are never in the cabin, but I find the time that we are, either relaxing before bed, figuring out what to do next, napping (which we did after each excursion) we all liked having the extra space, tvs, and bathrooms at our disposal. Even if it was just reading in bed or using the ipad, etc. I would be way too anxious with that many people. My kids love each other and get along well, but even they need some down time and space from each other.

The downside, is of course, that we don't get the advantage of the promotion of ksf. I am almost embarrassed to tell you that I am looking to cruise this April with 2 of my 3 (oldest will be on school DC trip) and am still looking at 2 cabins on the Jewel or CCL Magic

  8. I think they are mistaken, perhaps they ordered room service once a day and saw the gratuity charge and mistakenly put the two together?

There is a $5 charge after midnight for pizza delivery, other than that room service is free (included with your cruise fare)

  9. I am not necessarily promoting a lawsuit, if you pay an attorney for their time to write a letter on your behalf, I think it would get more attention than you writing a complaint on your own. It's just the first step, and hopefully all you would need, without having to escalate further.

If a lawyer tells you it's not worth their time, it's probably because they are looking at a pro bono or later payment situation. If they are paid for their time from the beginning, it is more likely you can get someone to help you.

It's not about a "huge" payday, it's about people/company taking responsibility for their actions and experiencing consequences, if appropriate.

  10. We also had rules about no one in our cabins, and not going in to other people's cabins, which for us wasn't an issue because, the kids would meet other kids at an activity (e.g. mini golf) and that would be it, but I can see where it would be very scary if you didn't know where they were

And no, my 8 year old did not have free reign of the ship, she was always with me or an older sibling at an activity, for a short amount of time, and then we would meet up and decide what we would do next. It was definitely a family cruise trip, not a "vacation" for me, lol

  11. I was on the Getaway with my 12 (dd), 10(ds), and 8 (dd) last spring break. It was also our first cruise. Beforehand, I was like there is no way they are going off and doing stuff on their own. None of them liked the kids club, which was fine with me, but I had also thought, (before we left) that they would have all spent more time there

However, when we got on and got the vibe of the ship, etc. I was much less freaked out. They really didn't do anything alone, they always were with at least one sibling, that's just how it worked. The exception was my son, who liked ping pong and would go there occasionally by himself and play with who was there he. He also watched Iron Man on the outdoor screen, mostly by himself (I met up with him at the second half of the movie). The rest of the time, it would be my oldest and my son, or my oldest and my youngest going off to do something together.

I would also let them stay in one of the rooms (we had adjoining balconies) at night (early evening, we were all in by 10), if they were not interested in the show or whatever the other one or two of them wanted to do.

So, if they were off without adult supervision, it was always with a purpose (going to get ice cream, going to arcade, going to see Frozen, etc.) and they were with at least one sibling. I would not have been comfortable with my 8 year old by herself, although, knowing her, I am sure she would have been just fine.

I can also assure you that my now 14 year old daughter, and the vast majority of her friends, would not be those girls on the stairs referenced by the other poster. And no, I am not in denial, and I am a Clinical Psychologist, and deal with high risk youth as well. I can also assure you that, that would be the reason that my son and older daughter would not have wanted to participate in the kids/teen club, if that's how the kids were on that sailing

  12. Since it is now after daylight savings, I thought I would check, too, because I have the same question as you!

I just googled what time is it in Cozumel at it said 9:06 pm and then I googled what time is it in Galveston, TX and it said 10:06 pm

So my best guess is that ship time is 1 hour ahead of local Cozumel time, they are both on CST

  13. I think it is supply and demand, but I agree that for the cruises I look at, prices are much higher than a year ago. At the same time last year (Feb) my cruise on the Getaway over Easter in 2 midship adjoining balconies, with free udp, was about 750/pp 2 people in a cabin, before taxes and port fees. This year at the same time it was over $1000/pp for the same ship, same week, same cabin, etc.

  14. I have 3 kids and we cruised last spring break on NCL, this spring break on CCL. It was not horrible, but yes lots of kids. It was fine with us because my kids are not the problem

However, I totally understand the desire to cancel and rebook, I see you are moving out of the FL area, perhaps you could look into something out of Texas during the school year, maybe the beginning or second week in May?

I know it's your anniversary, but for us, we don't worry about the particular date if something else comes up. Our honeymoon 17 years ago was in August, but the wedding was the previous May due to business (his) and grad school (me) commitments. The date would mean less to me than having a better time, and if that means less kids than I would move the date. But obviously, jmho

  15. to cancel an excursion, they only do it by email to the shore excursions desk, you put the name of the ship and the date of sailing in the subject line and then your booking number in the body of the email with the instructions to cancel

It is very easy, and I received a refund within the allotted time

  16. Hi,

I have not been there, so I can't comment. I know it's tough when you are trying to get information, have you tried Trip Advisor? There might be people there that have commented.

I just checked, lots of reviews for that property, vast majority are positive!

  17. I agree, OP, I took a 13, 10, and 8 yo on the Getaway last April, and they didn't like it at all. All 3 went the first night for a little bit, and then we made our own fun for the rest of the cruise, there was plenty to do. But as I sailed without my husband, I had been hopeful they would have liked it, at least a little bit, lol

My 13 year old did not like it because the other teens on our sailing were older so she felt uncomfortable, my 8 year old was annoyed that she had to be with 6 year olds and my 11 year old thought it was babyish and too many kids

I am primarily picking a Carnival cruise this year because my 9 year old will be in the "bigger" kid age group, on NCL she is still in the 6-9. So we will see

We had a great cruise on the Getaway, but did not use the kids programs

  18. I do not blame his friends at all! He is 21, in college, living on his own, etc. from I read, his friends got him back to the cabin and when they woke up, he was gone. Left again by his own volition. His friends are not responsible, not their job to babysit him. I am sure they feel terrible as it is

  19. You do not have to have a 21 or older in an adjoining cabin, last year, I sailed alone with 3 kids, 2 in the adjoining balcony (ages 13 and 10) We all had the Udp as a promotion they were running at the time.

The only issue we had was that we could not do online check in because I think they "fudge" the birthdate on one of the kids in the alone cabin to make the reservation, but then we checked in at the port and it was no issue at all.

In fact, I will only cruise ncl or rci, at the moment because husband does not want to cruise and these are the only lines (possibly Celebrity, as well) that have no restriction on age or type of cabin with underage cruisers. So because I like having the extra room and bathroom and tv and balcony, ncl is the way to go for us

  20. Hi,

You can book your 19 and 15 in their own room, if it's within 3 rooms of yours or across the hall.

I traveled alone with my 3 kids and booked by 13 and 10 year old in the adjoining balcony and myself and 8 year old in the other balcony.

The only "glitch" we had was we could not do online check in, but this was no issue, it was no big deal, we just checked in at the pier, the porters still took our bags, etc. with no issue
