  1. I would like to know which day they have "High Tea" and the time? We went on the Liberty and it was so nice. Very elegant and I want to take my granddaughter. She will think that is really special. Thanks Dot

They have the afternoon tea on sea days which are Monday & Saturday. I think I remember this being around 3:00, but once onboard you may want to check the Capers to be sure. My DD always enjoys attending the tea when she sails with me.

  2. You show up at the door to the anytime level of the main dining room anytime during the hours set for dinner and simply request your table size.

Can you do anytime dining one night and then do assigned dining another?

No, you have to choose one option or the other for the duration of your cruise. You do have the option to see the Maitre d' to change your dining assignment but you would need to stay with the option you change to. You can't change back and forth.

You can choose to eat at the Lido buffet or order room service any night that you don't feel like going to the dining room.

  3. So, this will mean that our upcoming cruise on the Pride will have a mini fridge?

Can we ask the room attendant to remove the sodas prior to arrival?

You should have them on the Pride. We have had them on the Legend which is identical to the Pride.

You can't ask that they remove the sodas prior to arrival, but your cabin steward should be available when you get in your cabin and you can ask then.

  4. What is the most recent news? Bathrobe party or luaau? (forgive my spelling!) I'm not sure what to bring, hawaiian shirts or bathrobes. Anyone?

It was a bathrobe deck party when I was there in October.

Is an 11:30am flight too early? Any recent reports on debarkation issues or non-issues?

    jw:cool:

I had an 11:25 flight on Southwest in October and was at the airport by 9:15. To be safe, I did the self assist debarkation, but I probably would have been ok with regular debark. Self assist on the Legend is well-run imho. They form one big line snaking back thru the casino & into the Follies lounge. People were pretty well behaved. No pushing and shoving or clogging the hallways that I saw.

Just wondering what type of tv's are now on legend (did they upgrade to flat screen yet?)

Also we have a suite and interior booked,

can you tell me for interior if shower has curtain or a sliding door?

Wi-fi- anyone now if a blackberry will work?

We did not have a flat screen in August when we had a suite or in October when I had an interior.

The interior bathrooms have a shower curtain. Only the suites have a sliding door, I think.

  5. We will be on Legend July 13. Group of 9 including four adults and five kids aged 8 to 17. We're set for a big table with all of us at the 5:45 seating to accomodate the younger ones in our group. I think our inclination at this point is to keep the 5:45 seating and not move to open seating - that way we know we have a table for all of us and if we decide to skip the 5:45 a time or two, we can always stand in line for a table at open seating or go to buffet.

I don't think you will have the option of changing back & forth from traditional to open during the cruise. You will be able to choose once and then will have only the chosen option available to you. You could go to the buffet on those nights, though. Here is some information from the letter my PVP sent concerning the new dining options:

Starting on June 29th the Carnival Legend will now allow for more dining options with open seating in the main dining room in addition to the traditional 6 pm and 8:15 pm seating. Guests will be able to either visit the dining room anytime between 5:30 and 9:30 pm to enjoy our dinner menu or request one of two assigned seating times. Reservations are not required for open seating, however you may call ahead each day from your stateroom to request specific dining times for that night.

Should you be interested in changing your request for assigned dining to open seating please call 1-800-CARNIVAL anytime up to two weeks prior to your sailing. Additionally, guests will be able to switch from assigned to open seating once onboard by contacting the Maitre’d the day of sailing. If you do not wish to switch to open seating and would like to keep your current dining time no action is necessary.

  6. do the french doors open to the outside? or they like a ocean view room? just wondering before I reserved a room.

Not a dumb question at all! Are you talking about the Category 5A obstructed oceanview cabins or the 7A obstructed balcony cabins? Both of these have french doors.

We stayed in a 5A last August and the doors open to the inside. Most of these cabins are fully obstructed by lifeboats, but there are some that are in between the lifeboats that will give you a small bit of a view. The cabin we were in (#4140) was one of these. If you look on the deck plans on the Carnival site, you can tell which ones these are.

Here are a couple of pics of the cabin we had:

  7. I will be enjoying my first cruise a week from today :D . I am a trivia buff and was wondering how the trivia contests are played on the Legend (team, individual, electronic, manual, etc. - what is the format used).

I was on the Legend last August and went to a lot of the trivia games. Most of the games I remember, players were allowed to form teams of 3-4 people, although I'm sure you could play individually also. Other than a couple of games where audience members were chosen for a game show type format, I don't think there were any electronic games. Most of the trivia games were played in the Follies Lounge or the Legends Cafe. There was a name that tune type of game played in the piano bar and sports trivia in the sports bar. I think they also did crosswords and some kind of trivia on the Lido deck, too, but I never made it to that. There's a lot of trivia to enjoy on the Legend! :)

  8. I had to get out the Big Momma of all suitcases. But will it fit under the bed? If it doesn't fit, can I keep it on the balcony? The suitcase in question is about 13" high.

I wouldn't put it on the balcony in case of rain or rough seas. I think it will go under the bed, but if it doesn't, you could always open it flat and slide it under like that. With two rooms, you should have plenty of underbed storage space!

Oh, yeah, I just read what bmacri said and that is right. If you are bringing just one suitcase with everyone's clothes, you would be better off bringing several smaller suitcases. Also, it's a good idea to cross pack in case one of the suitcases gets lost. That way one person doesn't have to do without for the week.

  9. I would like to hear how others compare the Legend to The Valor cruising the W. Caribbean. I have heard that the Spirit class ships sway more side to side because they are more narrow than the Conquest class. Any truth to this?

I haven't been on the Valor, but I have been on her sister ship, the Glory. Of the two ships, I felt more swaying and rolling on the Glory. I was lucky enough to have smooth seas both trips, so the amount of movement wasn't bad at all (on either ship).

  10. Anyone that has been on the Legend lately know for sure that they are (or not) getting the Waterworks when it goes into drydock in January:confused:

I'm not sure, but I thought the waterworks and other new features were only for the Fantasy class ships. The evolution of fun info on the Carnival site only mentions Fantasy class. It'd be great to have it on the Spirit class, too. Maybe they will be next. :)

  11. Thank you so much for helping me look. I saw those as well. It's hard to tell from a pic.... I guess I will know when I get onboard. Although from what I have just found out... there are very few if any 7A cabins left on my sailing.... so I was told I could still be upgraded. WooHoo!! I won't hope for it, but it would be awesome!

I'll keep my fingers crossed for you! You'll have a great time either way, but an upgrade would be fantastic! :)

  12. OMG! I've been tear struck twice in the same thread! Will someone pass me the tissues? :)

What two lovely stories. They kind of restore my faith in our fellow human beings, although really I've found there are far more nice people in the world than grumpy, mean ones. I was on the edge of my seat thinking the bear and squeaky would never be seen again! I'm glad that both of you had such happy endings!

  13. Ok so I have searched many sites and I can't seem to find any good pics of a Legend Upper deck 7a partially obstructed balcony room. I am sure I will enjoy just having a balcony but I would love to know what to expect. Does anyone have pics of this type of room???

    Thanks

They are hard to find aren't they? I found a few of the balconies. Maybe these will help. I believe these are from the Miracle, but the Miracle and Legend are identical in layout since they are both Spirit class ships.

  14. so i emailed ***** & they changed our room to 1133...so now we are under the legend's cafe. what is this? does anyone have any thoughts on whether or not this is going to be noisy?

The Legends cafe is more of an open seating area that serves the Sushi bar (limited hours) and the coffee shop (can't remember the name), so most of the time there aren't many people there. A couple of times we passed by and someone was playing the piano, but it was early evening both times. Also, they hold a lot of the trivia contest there, but also mostly during the day/early evening. I don't think you would have any noise issues from this cabin--it would have to be better than above Satchmo's!

Have a great cruise! I wish I was going again!:)

  15. Hi! first post here. I am sailing on the Legend with my Grandmom on 9/30/07. We're really looking forward to it! I booked through Cruise.com and the room is a partially obstructed view on the main deck with french doors. I assume the view is obstructed by the life boats, but I was wondering if anyone had stayed in a room with french doors. Does that mean it's a little bigger? Or is it one regular door split in two? That's more of what i'm expecting.

    Lauren

I'll be sailing in one of these cabins next month! I don't think the room is any larger due to the doors and the view is definitely obstructed by lifeboats. I couldn't find any of the Legend, but here's a picture I found of the french doors in an obstructed view cabin of one of Legend's sister ships, the Pride.

When we booked the 5A cabins were the same price as an inside. I thought it would be nice to at least have a little natural light.

Welcome to cruise critic! Get ready to have a serious board addiction! There is so much good information here that it's hard to stop reading!! Have a great cruise!

  16. They pretty much answered most of the questions but I was just going to add that we were in room 4136 which is right in the middle of the ship and had a good experience. The "obstructed" view from our room was the lifeboat right outside but we were still able to open the door and get a nice breeze at night. We also didn't really experince much movement in our room, which was nice. I'm thinking it's because we were in the middle of the ship and there's less movement than on the ends of the ship? I don't know much about engineeering and design but it sounds good anyway.

We have one of these cabins booked for August and I'm glad to hear that the feeling of movement was at a minimum. I was hoping that would be the case, so it's good to hear your experience. My DD has a small problem with motion sickness and felt a bit queasy at times last year on the Glory when we had an aft cabin. Nothing too bad, though, she was mostly able to take care of it with Bonine

GRAND CAYMAN- We took an island tour of Grand Cayman which was neat. I highly recommend visiting "Hell" in Grand Cayman and mail off a postcard to someone back home. The postcard will be postmarked from "Hell" and it's just apparently the thing to do. It was kind of fun! It's a very small part of the island but it was neat. The turtle farm was nice too.

We are wanting to do this tour in August. We're not really interesting in doing the Stingray thing, would just like to see a bit of the island. Did you do your tour through the ship or did you book it independently? If independent, could you share the name of the operator with us? Do you think there would be enough time to do the tour and have a bit of time at the beach? Also, what did you think of the tender process in Grand Cayman? Man, I'm just a bundle of questions! :D

We are flying to Tampa from Texas the day before embarkation (October20). Anyone have suggestions on where to stay?

snorkelplenty, here is a thread with an abundance of information about Tampa hotels. It's extremely long, so you might just want to go about 10 pages back from the end and read from there. Also, there are some other threads on the Gulf Coast Departures Board that might help you.

  17. Another question for all you Legend-ary cruisers! What did you think of the temperature in the public areas of the ship? Last year on the Glory, I had to bring a sweater or jacket every time we saw a show in the Amber Palace--I think it should have been named the Ice Palace. Is it as cold in the Follies Theatre on the Legend?

  18. Jesse James is the Legend.

Has anyone stayed in the the Oceanview Cabins (5A) on the Main Deck. They say they have French Doors with obstructed views. I know they are probably looking at the life boats. BUT - can you walk out the doors onto some sort of deck or balcony? Or ... are they just bigger "windows"?

Haven't stayed in one yet, but we have a 5A cabin on the Legend on our upcoming cruise. They do not have a balcony, but do have french doors that will open to let in some fresh air (per our PVP). Directly outside the window is a railing. Depending on the cabin you have your view will be similar to one of the following pictures (this is of the Pride, one of the Legend's sister ships)

  19. Thank you for the compliment to those here who try and help.:)

Just stay on Rt. 60 (Adamo Dr.) from Brandon. It will lead you all the way to the terminals. They are right downtown on the water. It is that easy....

Thanks, Jessemon! :) I was hoping it was easy! Easy, I like! I think I will probably book the Fairfield Inn-it has gotten a couple of good reviews on this thread. I'm still weighing my options, though, The Marriott Waterside has a AAA price of $135 and it would be great to stay there! Do you know if you have to do valet parking there, or do they have parking on-site?

Also, I'm wondering about the Columbia. If we get there early enough, it sound like it would be fun. How expensive are the prices there? I've seen several posts that say it's not bad, but can anyone give me an idea of the price ranges?

Hey, cool! I just noticed that I got post 1300!! That has to be some kind of record for a thread on this site!
