Is there any preference to deck OR to either starboard or port? Do the ships always dock on starboard side? Thx

We always book a cabin beneath another cabin and not under the pool deck, restaurant, etc. where there may be noise.

Port/starboard depends on the cruise route.

Ships seem to dock with either side.

Agree with PaulMCO, not much has changed - other than presentation.

What I have noticed is that the "Free" 3 day land pre or post land programs have disappeared from the Australian and Asian cruises.

    A big difference.

They are listed  at bottom of page as available, but with a fairly high charge

  3. We started to use the app on the Grandeur this spring, but the menus were so inaccurate that we gave up on it.

For example: Often the same menu was on at least part of the specialty restaurants. My first clue was when I said to my husband "Look Chartreuse has the duck/watermellon salad too!" (That whole part of Chartreuse's menu was Pacific Rim.)

Five times through the Canal, four of which were on Regent ships. Combination of 'Carib to Pacific; and visa versa. Next-up: January, 2025.  Grandeur, L.A. to Miami.

Regent passages included having one of the Guest Lecturers present briefings in the Theater two or three days prior to entry.  Commentators referred to David McCullough's classic:  "The Path Between the Seas".  Chapter, a verse or two, and pictures. The first time through, I brought that heavy book onboard.

In addition, Regent boarded a local Commentator on the morning prior to entry.  The ones we heard had detailed Canal experience as Engineers and Pilots.  Their ongoing commentary from the Bridge was accessible to folks observing happenings while on-deck, as well as those in Suites.

    Added to the experience.

    GOARMY!

That sounds great. Exactly what we were hoping for.

  5. We are considering a Regent Panama Canal cruise.  We previously did one on another cruise line.  The commentary over the PA system in public areas approaching and going through the canal was pretty good (explaining things, pointing out things, etc)

I have heard that some cruise lines do not offer commentary at all.

Has anyone who has gone through the canal on a Regent ship comment on what Regent does for information. (PA commentary in pubic areas, written info?)

Just show some pity to  @Mike Moore and his team who to have to implement this change. 🙂

I believe that Mike Moore left Regent a few months ago. A great loss.

What I am afraid of is that the air included price shown will be for economy, and we would have to book and wait to see what business cost would be - like it is on Oceania now - one of the reasons we have changed from Oceania to Regent.

We cannot ever get a price for business anywhere close to what Regent would give us for taking cruise only.

On Voyager we shared a table one evening with a man who was coeliac, therefore gluten free. All was fine until his dessert arrived which wasn’t what he had pre-ordered. He asked the waiter to check if it was gf. He came back and said he had asked the chef and it was ‘nearly gluten-free’ 😳!

We shared a table with a lovely lady who said she was celiac/gluten free.  The waiter was very good about pointing out such dishes  - or ones that could be made gluten free.  When it came to desserts, she ordered a very non gluten free one.  The waiter said "sorry, that cannot be made gluten free"  She replied "that's ok. i just try to stay lower gluten"

At Jacques, The sea bass in pastry is always excellent as is the Dover Sole. I also like the Lobster Thermador. A great throwback dish.

    .

    I heartily agree with this.

I would add the pea vichyssoise. First taste that I had of it, I thought "?".

By second mouthful, loved it - great depth of flavor. It is a small portion. Almost makes me want to order a double.

I was in GIAMC's December cruise in a PH, and I don't remember deck cushions being brought inside at night...and we had almost constant bad weather!  😓

We recently did a trans Atlantic in PH on Grandeur, and the room stewards brought deck cushions in almost every night.

Most days they put back out in the morning. On somedays I had to do it myself  (unless it is freezing, I am out on deck.)

So accordingly if you ordered beef Wellington and they served you beef bologna , in an filo dough, and you like bologna then that’s OK???

I bet you’re a fan of the infamous piccata Marsala dish Oceania serves that is neither piccata nor Marsala. What’s in a name anyway? Why should anyone be disappointed if their hamburger is made from chopped liver, what’s in a name?

No, of course not because beef and beef bologna are two different things.

However, claiming something is not true "French" is claiming that person knows all French cooking - quite a claim.

Never tried piccata Marsala - doesn't sound tempting.

I think that’s the secret …. you…  “quite liked it”. Surely at the end of the day it doesn’t really matter if a dish is ‘authentic’ as long as the ‘consumer’ enjoy it!

    I totally agree.

I think I said something like this in answer to "Jaques is not true French"  OK,  maybe not, but we still enjoy it.

  12. We have been on both Oceania (Riviera) and Regent (Explorer and Grandeur) recently, and I have to agree with all the comments so far - very good info.

Only one comment I do not understand is the complaint about breakfast offerings at Regent buffet. Seems like more than enough choices for me!

Both have very good food and you should be pleased on either foodwise.

I must say that some of the choices in Oceania's Jacques and Red Ginger are truly memorable dishes.

Now for the food or life snobs out there.  I do not care whether the pea vichyssoise or the sea bass in puff pastry is authentic French.  I simply do not care if you lived in France and never saw such a  dish. We enjoyed them, and that's what is important.

Also, my husband really feels that the duck watermellon salad on Oceania is far superior.  He could give you many reasons. 😋

  13. It may depend where you live.

We do not live in a hub city anymore, and to book business flights would 1/2 to 2/3 of the whole cruise cost!

It is always way better for us to have them book, and one time the flight was cancelled at the last minute by weather in a connecting stop. Regent promptly rebooked about as good as could be at that point and rearranged transport pick up from airport.

We have never asked for deviation ahead of time and have always been pleased with flight scheduling - now airports that's another matter but out of Regent's hands

The problem with this is that once one table starts talking loudly, everyone else has to raise their voices to be heard, and the din becomes very unpleasant. This happens all the time in restaurants, unfortunately. If everyone just spoke at normal conversation levels, the noise could be kept down.

So agree that this is annoying and can ruin others dining experience.

But what I find even more irritating is the person (usually female) who has to laugh/hoot loudly/hysterically over and over.  Nothing can be that funny all the time.

The screeching can really upset your dinner.  We have found this in all kinds of venues, too.

Would appreciate any and all information on the SG Arrival Card for our upcoming trip to Singapore. Does Regent provide information and help?  Has anyone arrived without its completion and what happened next.

    14 hours ago, flossie009 said:

The SGArrival Card is submitted on-line. It can only be applied for within 3 days before arrival in Singapore.

And yes, Regent does provide the information.

The attendant in the computer center was helpful for those who needed help to complete it.

So on a different note, from your point of view, are the walls on Grandeur so "thin" such that you hear conversations and tvs from neighboring cabins?

Has anyone been in a penthouse cabin on Grandeur and can comment on noise (or lack of)?

When we went to Iceland( not with Regent) we booked shore excursions direct with a family run company. They also provided packages of 2 or 3 tours to match the cruise ships itinerary, which worked out cheaper. The company were very good and the tour was a small group.

I know that doesn't help when you think you are getting free excursions but Iceland was a beautiful country, even in the rain, and it would be a shame not too see more,

Can you give us the name of this family run company for tours?
