  1. I would choose the Nieuw Statendam.  New ship, great music venues, fantastic food (lobster & filet mignon in the lido (buffet).  We are cruising on her in March (can't wait).

I think you will find HAL to be a step above other cruise lines in food and service.  Just my honest opinion.  Give it a try!

I was on the NS Jan 13th-20th and had purchased the soda package and was disappointed that the cups were not onboard. If I was told this at booking I would have purchased the soda cards instead. I inquired at customer service and was told they could remove the soda package but would not honor the pre-sail price of the cards ($25 for $50) So, I purchased a cup at our first port. I ordered my soda at the bar and put it in my insulated cup to keep it cold while at the pool. Very disappointing, but since the ship is new I wrote it off as a minor incident!

We thought about ordering the package but decided to just take our soda on board.  We are stopping at CVS or some other spot and purchasing Diet Pepsi for me and regular Pepsi for DH.  Much less expensive and we are taking our insulated cups.

  3. We cruised exclusively with HAL for several years but then tried a few cruises on RC.  We love the Oasis Class ships for the entertainment, but do not like the crowds.

HAL has better food, great ambiance, great service and just all around beats RC in my opinion.

If you have small kids or teenagers, they would probably prefer RC but I have heard really great things about Club Hal and there are way fewer kids on HAL.

I think you should try it, you may never go back.  I would try one of the newer ships or if the itinerary is more important then pick one based on that.  All of HAL's ships are great.

We are going on the Nieuw Statendam next month and can hardly wait!!

  4. We are using our PCC for the first time for our upcoming cruise.  We booked with her because she is very knowledgeable about the ship and stateroom sizes.

For those who have used a PCC before, does your PCC give you an onboard gift (wine, etc.).  Just wondering and didn't want to ask her.

  5. We've cruised HAL, RC & Disney.

RC is our choice when we want more entertainment and the ships (Oasis class).  The Oasis class does not feel crowded, maybe just the elevators.  Shows are fantastic, to us food is not as good as HAL.  Love the Oasis ships.  There are tons of "kids" onboard and you will notice more international passengers.   Ports are really limited on the Oasis class ships.  We have cruised the older ships on RC and not a fan.

We cruise HAL when we want good food, relaxation, Half Moon Cay and good ports.  We are cruising on the Nieuw Statendam in March and really looking forward to the new ship!
