  1. I can't remember where I found it other than it was on a Viking site.  It's an exact duplicate of the MVJ website but you can add it to the task bar and it goes straight from there.  It's on my desktop which I can't access for a couple of weeks while I'm getting ready to board.  I'll take a look once I get home in a couple of weeks.

I have the feeling that what the article refers to as "plumbing" is actually the piping systems in the engineering spaces, and in particular the steam piping (it's been so long since I was on a ship where steam was anything but an auxiliary), but the steam piping may be pitted, and need replacing. I know there is a difference between requirements for auxiliary steam piping and "main" steam piping, and since the paddlewheel is the primary propulsion, this makes the steam system a "main" steam system.

Except the Countess didn't have any steam propulsion.  Given the fact that it was converted from a casino boat only a couple of years ago it was either a lousy build or the claim is bogus.  I certainly never saw or heard of any plumbing issues when I was onboard.

Did you just walk out of the airport and follow signs to find the taxi line?  I know the 07000 taxis are recommended… do you just look for them in the line or do you just take the first taxi at the head of the line?  Thanks!

We walked out, booked on the app and the 07000 pulled up around the line.

  4. I submitted a request for a transfer and it's been paid for.  There is no information about it showing on MVJ.  Should I be able to see that somewhere or how do I find out more detail and confirm it's actually booked?

  5. I'm trying to understand how to utilize the wifi.  According to what I've read there is one connection allowed per person.  If that's the case, how do you manage the ability to text back and forth while simultaneously being on a laptop or tablet?

How did you find them at the airport?  Are they waiting for you with your name on a sign?  I might like arranging it ahead of time instead of just going out to the taxi stand... Do you remember how much it cost to go to the port?  thanks!

I also used 07000 taxi several times.  You book them on the app just like Uber.  They show a "not to exceed fare" when you book them although there is also an airport fee and a toll charge from the airport.  It was still just under $60 as I recall.  I don't remember how we found them at the airport but we booked with the app and a taxi pulled to the front of the line almost immediately.

It shows 15 days but as I told the hubs, if we’re spending 16k, I’m certainly not gonna quibble over a few hundred.

It's 15 days but only 14 nights.  Maximum onboard credits are based on nights and not days.  Different cruise lines count days differently and it's confusing.  Other cruise lines would sell this same itinerary as 14 days.

  8. I believe that's actually a 14 night cruise and nights are what the maximum onboard credits are based on.  For that cruise you could get up to $300pp from a travel agent but not from Viking directly.

Or, another example, having a percussion, brass accompaniment on your iPad as you play the guitar?

Ah yes, technology has led to backing tracks everywhere.  It's not just Viking.  It seems to be both the new cruise ship and lounge thing.

Just to follow up, the “request invoice” option is buried in MVJ. People have asked for help locating it. Go to the ACCOUNT menu (tap the person icon on the top right and select Account) then select “Request Invoice” from the dropdown list. It will email the invoice to the address used to setup MVJ.

I'm not sure this works if you've booked through a travel agent.  You can get a copy through them but not on MVJ in my experience.

But, I personally have not found the bridge crew of Viking to be all that friendly and personable, and I personally was curious whether they were contracted out or its an actual FT position within Viking. I think I stated earlier that I'm not necessarily looking for a Captain Kate like Celebrity celebrity, but she also wouldn't be the worst thing in the world to Viking, either.

Personally I don't get all the fixation about who the captain is, etc.  Or how engaging or funny they are.  I'd rather they'd spend their time concentrating on safety rather than being entertaining.

I was just on vy.no before my last post and I put in a date and was told it was more than 60 days before departure.

That's a misleading statement.  It means to check back 60 days ahead to make sure the schedule hasn't changed.  You can still book at 90.  I have no idea why they don't indicate that on the website.

With my one full day in Reykjavik pre-cruise, I've booked a South Coast tour. Jokulsarlon glacier lagoon and Diamond Beach look more dramatic (and maybe less touristy?) to me than the Golden Circle stops, but now I'm second-guessing. Will I be missing out on the best/most iconic sights by forgoing the Golden Circle? Planning to do Blue Lagoon and explore Reykjavik the day before.

I'm confused by this.  According to Google the Lagoon is over 9 hours round trip without stops.  It must be an awfully long tour.

We are a group of 12 (11 adults and 1 4-yr old) going to Flam in August.  I just checked the day that we will be there, and on Norways Best all time slots are sold out except for an 8:25am departure.  We are on the MSC Euribia, and our arrival time is 8am.  Do you think that's possible to make?  If not, are there any other suggestions for our group?

At 90 days prior to your port arrival go to vy.no and see what's available there.  They had tickets available for my booking when Norway's Best was sold out except for that 8:25.  You'll likely have to buy two one way tickets.

It's actually such a wonderful initiation to the joys of River Cruising – compared to Ocean Cruising, where the highly paid stevedore demands a tip to make sure your luggage arrives and isn't too badly bashed up...

Or perhaps it's Europe vs. the US handlers.

I just did some reading about "travel routers;" Although I own a company that hosts and manages servers and databases, I really don't see much use for travel routers.

    1.  If your travel companion has little to no idea of how to navigate wifi it can automate the process since the device can see the travel router as the home wifi and connect automatically.

    2.  It can eliminate the need to deal with captive portals on every individual device in places where those are used.

    3.  It provides an added layer of security particularly in environments like hotels and Airbnb.

m with Frisky.  Just how many devices does a couple need online at the same time??  On Neptune recently we had 2 iPhones, 1 iPad, and one MacBook Pro up at all times.  Occasionally had to log one out to download books on Kindles but only every few weeks.  Too much junk in my luggage anyway..🥃

A couple of phones, a couple of tablets, a couple of Kindles, a laptop it all adds up.  Actually the beauty of a travel router is that it can be set up with the same SSID and password as a home network.  That way those who are technology challenged are just automatically online without doing anything on the device.
