  1. We would like to get off the ship and find someone to take just the 2 of us on a tour through town, stop at Romney Manor, the Black Rocks, Timothy Hill (Southern Peninsula).

Would the "Taxi Stand" be our best bet? Seeing how we just want

    to see those few stops.

I have used Rose and Jim's taxi twice. they charge $140 US for the entire day.

van holds 12. so if you have 6 people, cost is roughly $30pp! You will have a great tour of the island, and can do what ever you want. HIGHLY rec'md them

  2. My jeweler has made it quite clear... If you don't know what you are looking at, A fool and his/her money are soon parted. If you think you are getting such a "great" deal..take a pic.... come home... research it.. talk to a reputable jeweler.

you will be surprised what you will learn...If it's still such a great deal.. then purchase it. I would NEVER buy a piece a expensive jewelry w/o comparing like pieces... for example, my DW loves tanzanite. now when I look at a piece, I know what I am looking at.. took me a few yrs, but can now tell the difference between gemstones using the GIA Colored Stone Grading System, the gemstones color is graded using three components : hue + tone + saturation.

prices are all OVER the place on this stone. I was shown a ring that was being sold for $1200 a car. when I looked at it closely, realized it was nowhere near that cost...bought it for $400...all I am saying, is it"s your $...be careful...

I have a good jeweler...like a good mechanic.. who takes care of me...:D

  3. I guess your protest worked. The 2 lines I've sailed in the last year (Carnival and Royal) now charge by the day or by the cruise now. No more per minute plans, unless a particular ship hasn't changed yet. Thanks for your hard work getting this changed.

Can anyone tell us what is happening right now... in last 6 mths w this policy on Carnival? They dont advertise it tks

    :D

  4. Probably the only person who would be able to tell you would be John Heald. He is Carnival's brand ambassador and you can find him on Facebook. He is a world of knowledge and many people ask him thing such as what movies will be playing on the ship, what cruise director will be on the ship etc..

Thank you all for input...do understand there is a fast rotation going on w the Comedians.. Mr. Heard sounds like a good lead. I will ask the "Board" one more time right before I leave. :D Not a big deal.. just wondered if there was a way to find out.

  5. Is there anyone out there that knows how to find out,

who the comedians will be for the up coming Carnival cruises.

I am sailing on Splendor in late Jan'16.. would like to find out who will be performing..Carnival was no help..told I would have to wait till I got on board.

Somebody has to know...lol always hear they are on this show or that.. would like to hear some of their work :D

  7. I was at tabyana this past week and was disappointed . It was overcrowded and there was no coral that wasn't dead. Save your money unless you like people trying to sell you stuff you don't need and water that was too crowded to get in. Just my opinion

Thank you.. in the back of my head, I wondered if this beach was being over "sold"..everything you read says this is the best place for snorkeling/live reef life...maybe to many years of tourists in one spot? ok, so if I still want to go to the west end, but want to avoid the crowds.. sounds like it would be Las Sirenas. at least its all inclusive...if this is the case.. option "B" would be French Key or Maya Key... :)

  8. Can anyone rec'md and give me contact info on Parasailing in the West Bay area.

want to do this there, and other sites were no help. I want to book, rather than just walk up, this way we can do it early, and then relax the rest of the day. Have some names from google, but want someone who has been vetted through here. tks :D

  9. Hello all!

Have been working hard to narrow down what DW and I will be doing at each stop, of our up coming cruise in Jan. have a question I hope someone can answer.

In Roatan, we are trying to decide to just go to Tabyana, for $40...and pay as you go for drinks and food, or go to Las Sirenas for $65...all inclusive

any thoughts from someone who has been there? only downside I see is the Beach, as far as for snorkeling? food? tks:D

  10. Been to both...Maya Key wins hands down in my opinion. West Bay is crowded and you'll be hounded by vendors. Maya Key has a lovely beach with plentiful shade or sun, whichever you prefer. The pier offers easy access to snorkeling or a nice view if that's not your thing. The walk around to see the animals is a pleasant way to spend an hour or so in the afternoon. And the visit with the little monkeys is not to be missed...loved that! And, no vendors!!! Maya Key is literally a 5 minute boat ride from the Coxen Hole pier (just a few steps from where the ships dock)...no stress of the 20+ minutes transportation to the other side of the island. Will definitely go back.

    Enjoy your time in Roatan!

just out of curiosity..crowds aside, which has the better beach? which has the better snorkeling. I am looking for the better beach. really appr. your input

    :D tks

  11. Can't specifically answer your question, as, first, I don't know any shuttles that have a fixed schedule, rather, they are arranged when you need them. And, it is cheaper and easier to take cab- $27 fixed rate, for the cab, or SUV or van taxi if you a larger group.

If you are talking the cruise line transfers, they also don't have a schedule, generally speaking, they go when full, or when everybody expected to arrive in a given time frame has arrived. That "given timeframe" depends on pax's flight schedules.

question.. DW and I will be coming into Miami on 1/26.. was told on THAT day there is a marathon going on. Carnival passes are $16 pp each way. should I try to get a cab, or be safe and go carnival? thanks:):)

  12. Chris, we are doing the Altun Hu and River Wallace, but through Carnival. I wanted a Carnival excursion at this stop so we can be in the first groups on the tender. I just booked it today, and haven't firmed up plans for other stops yet.

was looking at that also..most likely will end up doing the same.

    see you soon!:D

  13. I have not found any excursions that we are particularly interested in/want to pay that much for. I want to go take pictures at the big colorful Belize sign, and have been told it is a short cab ride away. What I was wondering is if any of you have ever just hired a driver for the day or for x number of hours? I was thinking that a local would be able to show us *his* city better than a tour group could. I would like to look around the city some, have lunch with our guide, etc. Just wondering if this was doable and if so, how I go about it. Do I just talk to the cab drivers outside the port or what? We would obviously pay for his time, lunch and tip well. Thanks :)

Same thing I am looking for. went on trip adviser... lots of names of tour companies, but want to talk to someone on here, someone that has just been there, or that "knows the landscape". going down in Jan. so I have time... but just want to go to Altun Ha, and then find a nice relaxing place (preferably a beach area) to finish my stay..Help us cruiser friends!:D

  14. Hello all, heading down in late Jan. doing my homework, by reading these posts. this one was a BIG help. I think I will be going Altun Ha. tks One question for all. does anyone have a local they would rec'md for this? always better tour, and know how to beat the crowds from the ships!:D

  15. we were at Orient on xmas day, Orange Fever was great, $7/pp lounge, umbrella and a free drink. Seaweed wasn't a problem, but there is some - varies daily. cab w/6 or more costs $7/pp.

Heading there last week of jan. so you think we should be clear of seaweed/normal by then? only one of our days we did not plan... due to reading posts from good people like yourself:D thank you all for info.. work too hard for my $ and want all to be good.

  16. We were also on the same cruise departing San Juan and ending in Miami. We had no trouble with the cabs. We were handed the paper at the airport and it showed what we should pay. He didn't ask for more. Of course we gave him a tip.

On the morning of the cruise we shared a taxi with another couple to the pier. It was $19 + $2 gas charge and $1 per bag. So it came out to $27 for the 4 of us. It would have been $24 for each couple if we had been in separate cabs. As far as I know, it is the base rate for up to 4 people. Our driver to the port was great, as that whole area was a mad house and he got us there safely and quickly.

Tks this was a great help, DW and I are heading there in Jan.:D

  17. ok, here's what I remember from two times going out of Port of San Juan,

liquor store exit is five feet from security for ship. they didn't care either way.

    I actually laughed about it..

another little unknown secret, is if you call the bon voyage service number'

you can have a bottle waiting in your room. rum/vodka etc.

cost was $65.. but was a magnum bottle. you are allowed to drink ANYWHERE on ship. we always bring our own coolers and mix poolside. yep
