  1.  Not a bad price.  But before agreeing,  I also have a deck plan so I can see location  of the cabin,  what's  near, will there be cabins above and below, etc.

On one sailing last year, the first offer location wasn't idea for me being under the theater  and I declined.

But less than two weeks later I received a better location offer

What I’ve learned to do, thanks to these boards, is have Indian food each night. On the first night tell your head waiter that you would like an Indian dish every night. So many of the cooks come from India, and feel pleased to cook you their foods! Each night is always something different and delicious! Plus, you can still order off the menu too! Win, Win!

So true!   Few years ago sailed with someone who is a vegetarian.   She loved the Indian dishes every evening.   She ordered an extra dish so the table can try.  So yummy!

Last September I would order the Indian  dish and just a piece of salmon.   When I told my waiter I love the Indian  dishes and spicy,  I got some of the best meals the remaining nights.

Depending on the ship, she also got Indian dishes at breakfast in MDR

  3. I sailed on the Valor in September and again in December last year.

On both sailing was verbally asked did I desire morning,  evening  or both.  All three were offered.

Since solo and with me not much,  requested just morning only with ice and daily activities in the evening.

The only difference was in December my cabin steward ask me to sign that I only wanted morning service and he noted ice in evenings.

If was in a full cabin with more than two and children,  would request twice a day.  Otherwise one time a day is fine.  Heck half the time I don't  make my bed up during the week and my ice machine is out, get spoiled on the ships

  4. ith me there are times not in the mood for MDR.  Often this happens when I had a long port day, example with Belize visited Xunantunich Mayan ruins which is right at the Guatemala border.   I had no desire to dress for MDR, put a tank top and shorts and headed to buffet.   Was it my best meal on board? No, but compared to what I do at home some days for meals, I didn't have to cook, clean, or wash dishes.  I also brought my Kindle and just relaxed and chatted with an employee working the area about Romania.

Did the same when there was a double movie I wanted to see.  Ate at the buffet and headed to watch  the movies.

Now about 10 years ago it was alot better.   One year ate in buffet every evening because it was that good.

Walking out the gate down the hill then back up it when we return is exactly what we can’t do😳
So we decided to just do Tabyana Beach since it is right by Infinity.  I really appreciate everyone’s input on this!

While you have to walk outside the fence to meet the private tours, they bring you back in the fence.  Been here several times always private tours.  The outside is not bad if rushing.  I'm a slightly chubby woman and take my time walking

  6. I did one time years ago on another cruiseline.  Now prior to this time always has excellent service in my cabin.  My main thing is clean cabin and ice in my bucket = happy cruiser.

On that trip when my cabin steward stopped by to greet me, I chatted, let him know my request and slip a $20.

During that cruise only refill the ice one, had to call for fresh ice.   After a long port day, being off the ship over 8 hours, came back to an unclean cabin (was told my "DND sign was on the doormwhich it wasn't)

I did address with the hotel manager,  after that, got the bare minimum service.   First and only time gave low scores.

I always tip my cabin steward and assistant,  same in MDR.  But never had such issues and since then, last day only

  7. I'm booked in August and $200 OBC was part of my package.

I'm sharing the cabin with my nephew, who is a minor so my brother and wife can enjoy their cabin.

While the booking is under my name, the OBC is showing each of us $100.  No biggie since I was going to spilt 50/50.  But you think they would place it under the adult in the cabin.

  8. Shrug CD have only a minor impact of my cruise.  I don't attend some things due to sailing alot or the hassle of crowds before and after.

To me long as the flow of activities are ongoing for cruisers  that's  good for me.

I shake my head at some threads when people  get upset because a CD was warm or funny enough. What may be warm or funny or delightful to you,the person  next to you think otherwise.   If they dont answer an email or recall you from six months  ago or not engaging.   How many of these same folks are super chipper everyday at home or at work?  Of course it's their job but all of us has had going through the motions days.

Will it change my mind on a certain cruise if xyz is the CD,no.  My reason for picking a cruise is where it's going, the price  and vacation

  9. Is there a thread to explain and break down these packages?  First time for myself, parents,  brother family, uncle and cousin  family on Celebrity.   We are on eight night sailing and would love to purchase my parents a night at the steakhouse on board and perhaps a night of sushi for my nephew and his cousins.   Sailing on Equinox.  Thanks

  10. I'm not a breakfast person too much, but when sailing enjoy breakfast in the dining room.

While I miss the old brunch menu, I found several items on the new one to enjoy.

I loved the skillet cake, which a side of cheese grits and sausage.   The burger was suprising good.

The port day menu breakfast board was good, I always wanted to see what the hype about avocado toast and got the chance to try.

I either go when they first open or at lunch time to avoid the crowds.

Even on port days can eat and get out at reasonable time.

The only time it was ok was I had a waitress who placed my order incorrectly.   Had to wait a little longer for breakfast, but no biggie.

Alot better that what I do at home.  Normally a bowl of oatmeal and that's it

  11. Bring you own, the items rec'd are nice, but not enough for the five days.

One tip I can say from on both Carnival and HAL, I often go late afternoon, early evening after 5:30 p.m.  Fewer people and more relaxing.  I had anytime dining and would go and enjoy pre dinner.

  12. The Fat Tuesday, the bar right across from the Three Amigos, have free wifi with purchase.  I always stop and get me a frozen drink before getting back on the ship.  The password is on your receipt.  I used it to check emails and post on FB

There is also a Starbucks downtown, but since I never been in unsure if wifi is free or with purchase.

  13. Over 10 years ago, we had our family reunion on a Carnival sailings.   Over half of our family members were using Carnival airport transport.   It worked out great without alot of hassle.

I normally use Lyft, but eyeing a cruise out of Galveston next year and the cost for a solo cruiser using Lyft or Uber is tad out what I want to spend.   Will use Carnival service on that trip

  14. Thanks for intel.  Looking at the 14 day Panama Canal cruise late 2021.  Going solo normally don't consider ship transport, but might opt for it.  Still got aways before sailing but like another poster stated transportation is one of the factors I never opt to sail from this port

  15. It's a whole pizza.  However it's not a large one,  about four nice size slices.  It's thin crust.

I ordered one night while watching a movie. The app allows you to track from order to delivery.   They state a 30 minute time frame.  It was right at that time.

It was hot and good item to snack on without heading to the 24 hour pizza spot on the Lido.

    It's $5 per pizza.

Now I know when watching movies on deck, the couple next to me ordered two to enjoy while watching the movie which I think is a great idea

I recall reading in someone else thread it was faster for them to order than the long line one evening than the pizza place on their ship

We are doing our first Alaskan cruise in August, Carnival Miracle 10 days out of San Francisco. We chose this mostly because it sails out of home port, we are platinum on Carnival and this sailing was like half the price of similar itinerary from Princess!

I'm looking at booking this mainly because solo rates are alot better than the other lines, longer cruise, and I always wanted to sail out of San Francisco

  17. Was there three weeks ago.  Been several times.  I primary like the port for the number of Mayan ruins you can visit.  My fave was Uxmal.  Also visited Dzibilchaltun.  You have the option of Merida.  I have done this solo with catching the local bus and walking around.

On my December visit did a mini mix tour where we visited a salt flat, viewed flamingos, visited Maya ruins Xcambo and beach break.  It was good, not great, but not due to the tour operator (I had a personal issue going on).  The flamingos were very few, but they are wild and not a zoo, no issue for me but was for others.  The ruins are not large and the time spent there was good.  The beach club was ok. The vendors were around, with periods of trying to sell and periods they didn't bother.  Water was a little rough that day, but quite a few people enjoying.  I only had drinks and nothing to eat.  It was nice just relaxing
