  1. BACK FROM CARIBBEAN PRINCESS SEPT1-SEPT6 2014 as a solo.

had a pleasant time and was comfortable with the activities. standout was the dining. was asked if I minded sharing table with others, had anytime dining. I did share and there were 3 other singles at the table each nite and then 3 different friendly couples each night

no specific solo activities, but all were enjoyable.

average age of the cruiser were 45-65. so if you are younger this might not be the cruise for you.

I had a solo balcony cabin and liked it. I ate breakfast at the horizon buffet and people were always asking to join me at my table if the buffet was crowded.

I would do this cruise again but only for the reduced price with the OBC.

HOWEVER, I was on the NCL GETAWAY THE WEEK BEFORE AUG23-AUG30 and had much more fun time as there are activities for solos including the specific solo lounge.

Thanks for the info. I'm 55, so should be OK. I think I've talked a girl friend into going me. Heck - someone else is cooking and cleaning - that's worth it alone.

  2. I also received this email. I'm very seriously thinking about booking the Nov 1st 5 night sailing that goes to Princess Cay and Grand Turk. Amazing price $199pp plus $200pp OBC. Sailing solo it would be $494 with a $400 OBC so basically I'm only paying port tax. This is for an inside cabin - oceanview and balcony are also at a great price.

I've never sailed Princess before so I'm reading everything I can find on this board.

  3. Just received an email from Princess for several 4 & 5 night cruises in Oct/Nov from Ft Lauderdale for $199pp with up to $200pp OBC. Total cost for inside was $494 with a $400 OBC. This was a 5 night to Princess Cay & Grand Turk.

I've never cruised Princess - Anyone have experience sailing as a solo on Princess?

At that price (with the OBC) I'm not sure I can pass this up!!

  4. It will be the 2nd night. Its not really called Formal Night anymore so that may have been the confusion. Its now Cruise Elegant Night - and they do still have it on the Fascination too (unless they stopped it in the last few months)

You will see everything from nice slacks to formal gowns. It seems to be much more casual than it used to be. However, you will still see some really dressed up - so if that's what you like - go for it.

Have a great cruise - was on Victory in July and had a great time. Looking at another cruise on her in Nov

  5. There are quite a few low supplement cruises on Carnival out of Miami in the next couple weeks. I'm looking for something for Oct/Nov but may have to go the end of Sept. These prices are just too good to pass up.

The Conquest and Glory both had 7 nights for less than $250 plus port taxes. Earlier today the Conquest was $199 with no supplement. Prices seem to be changing alot so if you are looking check several times a day

  6. Sorry I can't help with the dining question as I always do early dining. I've had great table mates and always enjoy dinner. Just wanted to say I hope you have a wonderful time on your Solo cruise. I just did my 5th solo out of 48 cruises this summer and looking for another great deal for Oct/Nov. As much as I like cruising with my family I'm spoiled having the room to myself. I'm actually cruising next year with family and friends and I'm paying double just to have my own room. (hubby doesn't like cruising, so he stays home!!)

  7. Did Carnival recently change this? Can't find Sunshine ever going. Can't find any cruises from FL going. Between now and spring 2016 I see three Carnival ships going in total.

I believe this cruise was changed from a Southern Caribbean to Bermuda just a few weeks ago. On the Carnival search page, If you search Bermuda and Port Canaveral you should find it.

  8. You guys know that Carnival has promotions all the time, when they wave the single supplement. That's why I cruise only with Carnival.

Right now this is the promotion that they have https://www.goccl.com/~/media/GOCCL/Files/Sales/SingleOccupancy1.ashx

But before that, they had instead of 150 %, 100 %. You just have to stay on top of it, and check often.

I haven't been able to find anything on Carnival with less than 200% in a month or so - even the cruises listed on the above sales flyer. Hoping they bring back the no single supplement sale or at least do the 150% again.

  9. You don't have to pay 200% to get the double points on RCCL. As long as you are sailing in a double occupancy stateroom, you get the double points. 3 points if you are in a suite.

I asked about this when I cruised and paid 150% and was told that I had to pay 200% in order to get double points. Now, this was right after they started giving double points so maybe its changed.

  10. I sailed the Victory in July and had a great cruise (and never got off the ship). Yes, she is ready for a little spiffing up.....but I had no complaints about the cleanliness of the ship. There were a few loose tiles in my bathroom floor and some rust in the shower and on the balcony. Maybe its just me, but that doesn't bother me at all. The staff was very friendly and always working.

I did notice lines in the buffet at prime eating times. On port days, breakfast was very busy. But I never had a problem finding a place to sit and the staff was constantly cleaning tables.

I would sail Victory again with no hesitation. In fact, I'm looking at either October or November and right now the pricing on the Victory is winning.

  11. I'm probably in the minority, but I would choose the Freedom. She was just in dry dock earlier this year. We sailed in Feb and loved the ship. I know the Sunshine gets alot of mixed reviews but I had family members on her in July and their only complaint was she felt very crowded.

Which port is closer? Do you have flights to figure in - that may make a difference.

  12. I was just on the Victory last month and had a great time (but I always do when someone else is cooking and cleaning). The Victory is a great ship - she is ready for a little spiffing up, but was very clean. I'm actually looking at Victory for another cruise in Oct or Nov.

Not trying to talk you out of the Victory, but have you checked prices for the Freedom out of Ft Lauderdale or the Liberty out of Pt Canaveral. The Freedom just went thru a big upgrade this year. Both of these ships do 5 night cruises. I've been on both, but before all the upgrades.

  13. My Mom uses a C-pap machine. Its noted in her profile and I also mention it when I book our cruises. They always have a gallon of distilled water and an extention cord waiting in the room when we arrive.

My brother also uses a C-pap but he just uses the water on the ship.

  14. I agree with the above poster. Just search for 1 passenger on the dates you are interested in. In the past, I've also found better pricing that what was on the "official" list. Surprisingly there seemed to be more no single supplement cruises during the summer than I'm finding for the fall.

Good Luck - hope you find something. I'm looking for October/November and I only find a few cruises out of Miami with no supplement.

  15. I'm just back yesterday from a cruise out of Miami and live in St Augustine (an actual native). I don't usually do this, but drove down the morning of the cruise (last Sat). It took me 5 hours - I left home at 7am, made a couple potty stops and was on board by 1pm. I did get on the turnpike at Palm Beach Gardens (because the GPS said it was quicker) but could have just stayed on I95. My return trip took a little longer only because I was in "work" traffic yesterday - nothing too bad since I was headed out of downtown Miami and most of the traffic was headed south.

Normally if I cruise out of Ft Lauderdale or Miami I stay around Ft Pierce - its about 3 hrs south of St Aug so you only have a couple hr drive the morning of your cruise. I know I'm in the minority but I would would drive down the day of again if I had to - just give yourself plenty of time incase of delay.

    Enjoy your cruise.

  16. I just got a call from the "real" upgrade fairy. I was booked solo in a 1A porthole at a great price (no single supplement) leaving tomorrow on the Victory for 5 night. Just got a phone call asking me if I would like a FREE upgrade to a Deck 8 balcony. I said absolutely!!! and about dropped the phone. ]

Awesome. Can I ask how far out you got the call? ie, how many days before your cruise? Just curious when they make those sorts of calls...

We have 46 days until our cruise to the Southern Caribbean!!!

    Can't Wait!

I'm leaving today and they called yesterday afternoon.
