  1. I used to have issues with smaller ships (RCI Nordic Empress) and seasickness.  Since I started sailing larger ships I have not had a problem.  Not sure if I have got over seasickness or if the large mega ships make a huge difference for seasickness.  I am sailing on Rotterdam, very small ship.  Might I have problems again because of how small the ship is?

  2. From what I am reading, The Amsterdam is the sister ship to the Rotterdam.  So the views should be comparable.  Here is a link you can go to and find out what the view will be out of your cabin for obstructed view.

I can't paste on this particular internet.  Will try chrome.

  3. I have read a bit about spa passes and  the thermal pool and some perks. Sounds fantastic.   But I wonder, does the Rotterdam (small ship) have all of these amenities?  Does anyone know what is included in a spa pass on the Rotterdam?  Would it be worth it?

  4. I know the Rotterdam has reserved lounge chairs for the lanai cabins.  Does anyone know if there are additional lounge chairs not marked reserved for the others that would like to sit and relax?  We are on that deck and I have always loved to sit, read and watch the ocean go by.

It was explained to me that the restrictions on gray water discharge are steeper in Europe than other places, and it costs more to process the cleaning fluids there.  So they charge more.

Whether or not it is true, it would make sense and sounds good.

Yes it's really gone.  You can stuff a bag for $20 ($30 in Europe) or get unlimited laundry for $7/day ($9/day in Europe).

Why more expensive in Europe?  We will be doing 14 days Holy Land/Mediterranean.  I assume that constitutes Europe.

  7. I have been reading some of the ship reviews on  CC and a couple have said it appears that the self serve laundry on board Rotterdam has been removed.  Does this leave only the bag service of stuff a bag pay once or paid the $7 per day?   Is it the self serve laundromat really gone?

  8. Up until this next cruise I have loved RCI.  No major complaints. Notice a decline in food.  But RCI was my first cruise and what I compare others too.  We did one Princess and disliked (hated) it immensely.  Some was trouble with mechanics  of the ship, some was the fact that Noro was rampant, but also found the clientele (out of Miami) very old and obnoxious.  We have sailed with many older people (we are in our upper 50's) and this was the first time we found such a large group to be rude.  Because I am sailing with a group of women and they had already decided on HAL is the reason I am willing to try HAL.  I know I won't like some parts and will love some parts.  I don't plan on any of it ruining my trip.  But I know I will still compare to RCI because it is my first and majority cruise.  How many of you are partial to your first experience and tend to compare to that experience?

  9. I will occasionally order a second entre because I want to try the meat. I have only cruised RCI and one time Princess.  I have asked at times if I could only have the protein part of the entre because I generally don't want the additional veggie/grain on the plate.  Other than lobster, I have always been served the extras regardless of my request.  Right there is a way to cut back on food served and then wasted.  I realize it is easier for those serving to make each plate the same and not worry about special requests, but it is a food waste.  Someone at another table might look at my plate and think I am wasting food and not realize I actually asked for it not to be served.  So please, don't always judge what you see at another table.

But all jokes aside... is there a 15% gratuity on top of the $10 upcharge?? If so, you can surely bet the waiters would love this! No more extra lobster tails for the table!! (Shaking my head)

Very interesting point.  I wonder if the gratuity will be added to the $10 upcharge.

  11. We are going on a 14 day Mediterranean/Holy Land cruise.  We are planning on leaving the ship on the last full day in Naples and taking the train to Rome and flying out earlier than we could if we had chose to complete our cruise.  I know we have to fill out paperwork and get permission from the government and also let HAL know.  Anyone who has left the ship earlier than actual last day please tell me of your experiences or what we should know or what you wished you had known.  Thanks.  Appreciate any input.

That could be next or they could try limiting you to one trip through the line.  On our Italy land trip last year one of our included  dinner  nights was a buffet at the hotel in Sorrento where we were booked, we were given a ticket that only allowed one trip through the buffet line. It was the worse meal on our 14 day tour too, it made us appreciate the food quality on HAL in the Lido buffets.

I would have a very hard time getting full on one trip through a buffet.  Not because I am a glutton or over eat.  But because I am one of the people who can't stand their food to touch.  I am 56 and haven't outgrown it yet, so I am not changing now.

  13. My Dh and I would frequently order three mains between the two of us.  He needs wants more protein than I do and I like to try different foods. I would much rather him have a second main/protein than fill up on appetizer and dessert because there is no charge.
