  1. I'd let him know the rules and offer to buy a pair of cheap khakis (don't spend much if he won't wear them anywhere else), but I'd give him the alternative of eating on Lido by himself if he does choose jeans and gets turned away. That way, it's still his decision.

Honestly, at his age, I'd worry about and focus on other things. Dress codes are just kind of silly, in my opinion. Guidelines are a much better thing.

Admittedly, I'm a rebel about dress codes. I'm a lawyer and I almost never wear a suit. :)

  2. I bought this Travelon. It is big enough for my beach towel and a water bottle, but it also becomes a crossbody or a backpack. It's probably too big for your needs, but I love Travelon so much for excursions.

I like Baggalini a lot, but more for running around town. It would be hard to slash through my Travelon and steal anything. My Baggalini is thin and non-water resistant and could be ripped right off my shoulder.

  3. I live in Baton Rouge (Louisiana) and drive to New Orleans day of. I don't like driving to New Orleans because I've once had a flat AND took a wrong turn, making an hour and a half (max) trip seven hours.

But I have back-up in place. I could leave a broken car and have my parents get it. I know alternate routes and have GPS now. (Didn't back in the early 90s in my back-up car.)

Do you have alternate routes? Back-up plans?

    If so, go for it!

If the roads might close due to snow or something, get a hotel.

  4. Maybe it's the nature of the Carnival Dream (my only recent cruise experience) with its tiny pools, but not only were there usually chairs (in the middle of June/July), but why in the world would anyone without a kid in the pool want that spot. There are so many better spots for chairs around the ship!

  5. I never breastfed on a cruise, but I've cruised and I've breastfed.

I would think that it is to hot to truly cover the baby/breast completely in the Caribbean. I breastfed in Louisiana, and while I'm very prudish about showing my body (like always wear a swim skirt prudish), sometimes I just couldn't cover my baby or he would sweat and get too hot, especially after 6 months old. (And babies must to 6 months to go on Carnival, right?)

I also think it would be very difficult to always go back to your cabin. Cruise ships are HUGE and a baby screaming all the way would probably make you leak and disturb others. You won't want that. I think some people who say "just go back to your cabin" don't understand the biological reality.

There are lots of little private nooks to use other than your cabin, if you want privacy. But, honestly, you don't need to hide. Most crew aren't American, and we Americans are the ones with hang-ups about this.

Just feed the baby, however you would otherwise feed the baby and wherever it's appropriate to eat. If someone is rude, say "bless your heart" and smile. It'll confuse them!

    :)

  6. If I don't check in until 10:30 - 11 (my assigned time) can I still drop bags to the porters earlier (say 9 a.m.)? And is there someplace I could then walk to to buy some coffee and view the river?

(I posted about coffee in NOLA group, too, but figured this is more a Carnival question.)

Sadly, I live only 45 minutes from New Orleans but still get lost in the city. Is the port by the Riverwalk Mall?

  7. Can I buy the $5 and upload videos or photos through my Facebook Messenger or Facebook App? I know I can't Skype back and forth with the $5 one, but I don't see any limits on video uploads. It would really help my kid to see us talk, since he's a new reader and will be at Grandma's.

If I need a bigger package, I'll get it, but we don't plan to call, Skype, or e-mail at all.

  8. I am such a lightweight. A mixed drink if we go to a comedy show, a frozen concoction about twice per cruise, and MAYBE a spiked coffee once for dinner.

I usually buy a coke at dinner, but otherwise drink water. (Bubbles would be a waste for me. And OBVIOUSLY Cheers would.)

The sad part? Any of you seeing me after my tiny drink will think I've bee drinking all day! :)

  9. On ship, I wear one. I am quite jealous of all these guys with pockets - and hope women's clothing catches up soon - but for now it's hard to find shorts with a good pocket. And I'm sure not carrying a purse everywhere or following my husband around like a little chickadee.

Off ship, I wear it under my clothes. If my backpack gets stolen, they will score an old beach towel, a cheap water bottle, and some sunscreen. Maybe a bit of cash. But I'll get back on ship, with my license and S&S card.

  10. Most of our excursions have lockers available for a small charge, but one in particular sounds wet the whole time - waverunners with snorkeling.

What do you bring with you on wet, moving excursions like that?

I'm thinking my ID/S&S, sunglasses and cotton hat that are secured with straps, swimsuit on with little shorts and a tank over it, and cash for tips. How would I possibly bring a camera?

  11. I am planning to purchase the $25 a week ($5 a day) internet package to keep up with my kids at home. The youngest is 7 and struggles with reading.

If I do a video on my phone and upload it on the Facebook app (something I do all the time on my wifi at home), will the ship let me do that? Or it is limited to non-photo/non-video uploads?
