  1. It's been a minute since we have cruised with HA and considering Rotterdam next Feb / Panama Canal/Caribbean
I know most cruise lines aren't what they once were but I have heard a fair amount of buzz (negative) about Holland lately ... I did search the first 5 pages here and nothing jumped out at me so I thought I would ask!!

    My thanks

@Karen Lynn If I read correctly, this excursion is only the Nærøyfjord cruise and then a bus up to Stalheim and back to Flåm? If you’re doing a small boat cruise in Lysefjord as well, I would lean towards the Flåmsbana for the variety. The train isn’t bad at all. It just doesn’t offer the kind of beautiful views and fjord scenery that some people expect.

Ok my thanks , I appreciate that !

  3. I am SO stuck!!!!!

Perhaps someone can weigh in on their experience?

In Flam we have this tour booked (July - Celebrity)

Destination Highlight: Fjord, Valley and Mountain by Land and Sea

Discover the beauty and wonder of Norway's one-of-a-kind fjords over water and land; later, relax and enjoy refreshments in the comfort of a mountain hotel. A fjord is any deep-cut glacial valley, often featuring steep mountain slopes or cliffs. You'll take a cruise through the Aurlandsfjord and into the Naeroydalen, which was recognized in 2005 by UNESCO for its wondrous beauty and geological treasures. Your boat will take you past steep mountainsides, beautiful waterfalls, and narrow fjord passages. You'll arrive at the breathtaking Gudvangen, which means playground of the gods. Here, you'll board your coach for a thrilling ride along Naeroy Valley's steep curving mountain road. Your coach will negotiate 13 heart-pounding curves, passing through tunnels and beside waterfalls. Stop for refreshments at Stalheim Hotel, where you'll enjoy unparalleled views of the valley below. Return along a winding road through the Naeroy Valley floor, passing through two, long, exhilarating tunnels.

    Highlights

    • Enjoy a relaxing sail into the Naeroyfjord–a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site–traveling past waterfalls and thrilling mountain precipices.
    • Journey up narrow mountain roads, beside spectacular waterfalls and steep mountainsides, as you drive into the dramatic Naeroydalen Valley.
    • Savor coffee, tea, and a pastry while enjoying stunning mountain views at the relaxing and beautiful Stalheim Hotel.

We also have a boat cruise in Stavanger - Lysefjord cruise this sailing

Do we stick with what we have above in Flam or switch to the FLAM railway to Myrdal return?

I am reading mixed reviews on the train ...

      THANK YOU!
  4.

Anyone recently taken a taxi from BCN airport to the hotels ( H10 Madison )  and from hotels to cruise port ? Debating between booking private transfer or just taking a cab. Any idea of costs would be much appreciated also!

If you’re also calling in Geiranger, the scenery is similar to the sail-in there (though still more narrow), so I might consider the train in that case. If you’re not, and dramatic fjords is what you’re in the area for, I’d do the Nærøyfjord cruise.

I’ve taken the train a few times, and I always think it’s disappointing that you don’t get to see much of the fjord at all. It’s a nice pretty ride and interesting engineering, but if you’re there to see the iconic fjord scenery, I’d focus on that. There are mountain trains in other areas. The most interesting part to me is going from sea level to mountain plateau so quickly, and that really is astonishing and helps underscore how dramatic the fjord landscape is.

Thank you … I decided to keep to what we have. I looked at the YouTube videos and was a bit underwhelmed so we’ll proceed as planned. Thanks for your feedback

Sorry I can’t help more. I also really wanted to do the train trip (by the way, cruise line excursions don’t go all the way to the top; they get off to go to a hotel for waffles before reboarding the same train on the way down) but I saw a description by someone who had done the cruise/bus combination and decided that I really wanted to do it.

Yes I watched a YouTube video of the train and thought that too … I tried to book a late morning train independently but I guess other cruisers beat me to it and the one open still gets me back at 2:30. Not enough wiggle room …

  7. Thanks for your reply

Well our time has been cut short and we now leave at 3 pm due to the reduced speed in effect …

Our booked tour is - You'll take a cruise through the Aurlandsfjord and into the Naeroydalen, which was recognized in 2005 by UNESCO for its wondrous beauty and geological treasures.

Not sure about that last bit …😮
I guess I am questioning myself because we do boat tours in 2 other ports ..

  8. I understand the 'real' is their currency ... credit cards widely accepted. Going to a few ports - so I am thinking a smaller amount for taxis - markets - cafes and such suffices ? Appreciate any tips from those that have been ?

    Many thanks

  9. Anyone have experience on what is best currency to take?

One site said Euro but they have not been under Portugal since 75 so I can't see that.

Escudo is suggested .. is this necessary to take? Assuming credit cards also fine but for smaller purchases what is better?

    THANKS!

  10. Ok next question!
Never had so many probs as this time with cruise planner 😡

When can dining be booked? Pricess advised last week after final payment so made that ahead of it's due date. Still cannot book. Just called again and was told 3-4 weeks prior to sail date. So frustrating.

Also- requesting the medallions for our party - they tell me they can request in cruise planner now but they don't ship until approx 12 days prior to sailing. They're coming to Canada, that seems tight.

    No?

    Thank you again!

In your cruise planner on the website, go into your particular cruise and then click on Payments.   From there, you see see a button right below where it states ‘UPGRADE NOW’.

If you are onboard, you will be able to purchase it through your app under Payment Methods and Packages.

It's already purchased at time of booking - but I can't see mention of it anywhere.

    Sorry , I wasn't clear
