Thanks for the link. I don't believe I missed that thread. We want to go in early and stay late so it looks like the deviation fee may be the way to go. My last concern is that some people on that thread said you can't use deviation for free airfare. I will have to double check that.We fly out of Newark so that part should be easy.

How thick is the Lewis and Clark at the back of the neck? I usually have problems caused by the pillows being too thick there.

Is there a specific buckwheat pillow that you recommend?

i have a bad neck and generally have difficulty sleeping on planes. I have tried several different pillows but not yet found one I love. I would love to hear about pillows that work and those that don't work so I can avoid buying another one to sit in my travel drawer.

I don't generally dry my cotton tops. Did you have any problems with shrinking? What about clothes that say line dry?

We have decided to rent a car for one of our days on Moorea from Albert. The second day we will use some of our OBC to do a PG tour. We are on the September 6 cruise.

Now we have to decide which day to rent the car as the PG tours aren't out yet for our cruise. Are same tours offered both days? Will I be able to get a car if I wait until tours are available?

When you rent a car in Moorea, where do you pick it up? I am seeing airport pickup and have no idea how far that is from port.

We are interested in taking 4 wheel drive inland tour through tour company in Tahiti. I have read that terrain is rough. For those who have been on it, should my friend with back problems skip it?

Thanks for all the advice. We have not been to French Polynesia but are experienced travelers. We have frequently booked private tours based on reviews on Tripadvisor and have always been happy. My main reason for this post is to see which places we can go with neither a ship nor private tour as I don't always want to do group activities.

Thank you for the terrific information. I apologize for my misuse of the term port. I am totally aware that these are small islands and that ship will be tendering at all of them.

So it sounds like most of the islands will require a tour. Do you recommend ship's tours or doing it on out own? We don't generally do ship's tours.

For those of you who have been on this cruise, are there ports where we can easily get off the cruise ship, do a little shopping, and go to the beach on our own? Are taxis or public transportation readily available where we tender in?

We will not be renting a car or bicycle in any of the ports.

We live in East Windsor, better known as exit 8. Plans for the trip are coming along nicely. I am thinking about renting a car for one of our days in Tahiti and taking a tour the other day. Our last day after the cruise I have tentatively booked a room at Tiare Tahiti basically to store our luggage (4 of us) and have a place to relax if we want. It looked very conviently located. Are there any don't misses" on our trip? We are taking 10 day Society Island cruise.

Was that the room at the Intercontinental offered by the cruise line? They charge $195 each for it. Does that include any meals?

I guess I sill see what fares are booking on our own. We have $1700 credit each on cruise if we don't get air through PG.

I am a little confused. Do I get transfers, day room, etc if I book air through PG even if I don't book hotel through them? We are planning to stay at IC two nights precruise at a much better rate than PG.
