1. Absolutely on our last 14 night Caribbean it was ridiculous. Fighting occurred and on guy kicked off the ship. Another able bodied racing a scooter he "borrowed" around the pool deck.

Oh, the Horror, the Horror!!! People having fun. Stop that right now, stop it. No fun for you.

Big deal, give me a break:rolleyes:

  2. So you saw people behaving like they'd had too much to drink. You apparently spoke to SOME of them, and then ASSUMED the rest of the drunks were from the same part of the world? Because.....why? If you didn't speak to the others, what would you base that assumption on, if not stereotyping? Also, just curious...did you seek these people out to talk to them or is just a big coincidence that the ones you happened to chat with were the very same ones who were later sleeping on the pool deck, etc.?

p.s. Dublin is in Ireland, so it's not part of the UK. ;)

    Good Come back Waterbug!;)

  3. No, but I've seen a few folks that should have a drink or two and unwind a few notches.

This topic has been coming up ever since the drink packages have come out. Just like this thread there have always been mixed answers, I think people see what their biases allow them to see.

LOL, I love this response, as the other person said "spot on". Some people get on board just looking for something to complain about. Mind your own business and just enjoy yourself.

The notion that someone who's had a few too many is "endangering" the other passengers is just ludicrous. If someone ever came over to me and started lecturing me like that it would get ugly!:D

  4. Like I said, really! was that TOO critical for you?? Grow a thicker skin!

Believe me, I can take a lot more criticism than that remark and anything else you could dish out. It was just uncalled for but some people just like to criticize others. Good luck to you.

  5. Certainly nothing wrong with staying on the ship if you've been to KW before and it didn't appeal to you. If you've never been there however, I think you are doing yourself a disservice by staying aboard. I think it's one of the best Caribbean ports for getting off the ship and simply wandering.

I agree, it is a fun spot to just walk around.

  6. Count me in as one of those people. "All" is a pretty encompassing description. Its three hours out of 200 in an 8 day cruise, hardly more than what some people spend in the dining room each night, eating a meal they get to eat 365 nights a year.

    I mean really!:D

Good for you Capecruzer for responding to an uncalled for remark. Who are others to judge what you like to do, whether on a cruise or not. Sometimes I wonder why people feel compelled to criticize others on these boards. Mind your own business and keep your sarcastic comments to yourselves.

  7. Boston harbor actually has a whale detection system designed to keep large vessels like cruise ships away from the whales. Unless you're on a whale watching boat you're unlikely to see any.

As the previous poster said, they mostly hang out on Stellwagon, certainly not near the harbor. LOL, You might see a seal or two though.

  8. I'm almost certain you won't see any whales from the cruise ship when leaving. You'd need to take a dedicated whale watch excursion. Most of them leave from the Long Wharf area which is by the LongWharf Marriott and the Aquarium. Google them, I'm not sure when the best season is or what thier schedules are. The usually head out to the Provincetown area. I can tell you they are fun.

  9. As a parent with four children - all very rambunctious boys, and all of whom have cruised with us - I really have appreciated the adult only areas. I'm anticipating appreciating the adult only areas on my cruise next week. I love kids, but not when I'm expecting to be apart from them. And I would find myself quite annoyed with any parents who tried to bring kids into an adult only area. I would also find myself annoyed if the ship staff didn't enforce the rules. Calling an area adults only but not enforcing it, seems like false advertising to me.

I hope you enjoy your cruise, but I hope that you will also respect your fellow passengers and their expectations by not bringing your children with you into an adults only area of the ship.

    (Also, FWIW, my first post.)

Good post! Welcome to the fray!

FWIW, it does get interesting now and then!;)

Stick with it, an invaluable source of information if you are really into cruising.

  10.
Having been asked by another member to post about Gastro pub as we've just returned from the equinox, here I am :)

Before the cruise I was very keen on this venue and had looked at the photos, read the menu and was keen to try it out.

I can only describe it as a place of two halves, both totally different to each other. It was either totally empty or totally full!

We stopped by a couple of times thinking of eating lunch there and the place was empty, we would have felt very conspicuous sat there with people walking past eating alone (I know this can happen in bistro but it's screened off) we also noticed that the menu prices do not compare to the prices we first saw and a burger is now $12 other larger plates $8 then small at $6 etc in fact the whole menu is more expensive. I think when you can have several courses in bistro for $7 it's a bit much to charge.

At other times when we passed in the evening there was American football on the TV and the place we full with people, sometimes loud sometimes not, but again not the kind of place you would eat.

When it was busy it seemed like a sports bar, I'm sure people will love that, we didn't. We never went once :(

BUT the new slush place on the pool deck is fantastic :D
$12 for a Burger????
  11. I agree .

Not a local's place at all as a lot of the time they make fun of people with disabilities passing by, gays, overweight folks, etc.

But I realize they are there to make money off the tourists and they do a good job of that. I just stay away since they don't fit the "One Human Family" motto of Key West.

    Mike:)

Mike, just found an email from Aug you had sent me! I don't use that email addy much anymore. I sent you a response on the new addy. Let me know where you ended up gettin' the LOBSTAH!!!

  12. "After so many days at sea, it’s funny when the captain gets on the PA at 9:50 and says…..this is the captain talking to you from the navigational bridge. I always wonder if he ever gives the talk from his cabin or if there is some other bridge on the ship. Maybe he will surprise us one day and say this is the captain talking to you from the engine room…one can only hope. I like this type of humor…I suppose others would be horrified with the change."

    LOL,

GH, my wife and I laugh about this all the time. Where else would he be? Martini Bar? Lawn Club Grill? Shuffleboard area?

And the Greek accent makes it perfect!:D

  13. I have read this thread with interest and I believe that the argument to pay the discretionary gratuity has not being made. The comments of many including yours are so pitiful it has has changed my opinion.

After all, I resent being told to pay $672 in tips when I have already paid 40% more that you. When it is level playing field then maybe people's attitude will change.

Sail on UK cruise lines then, sorry if you don't like our customs. Sail on Cunard and keep your hands in your pockets. Don't tip anyone which is typical.

  14. I also didn't see any "snarkiness" (is this a real word?) in Vida's posts. Vida provides a lot of great info re: Boston here.

I mean, get real. You start a thread looking for information from locals and then when they give it to you and you don't like what your hear for whatever reason all of a sudden people are "snarky"???

Go online on your own, google all the info you need on the houses and then knock yourself out searching for them. Have a fun day...............
