1. Gosh... all these different names for dining! Now there's "classic".

I want to eat at 6:30 each night. At the same table with the same wait staff. What do I choose? If you tell me My Time Dining.. that did not work out that great on Oasis last week. Had pre-made reservations and ended up at 7 different tables with 4 different waiters even though we requested same table, same waiter. The lines were long and we even got sent to the solarium one night because the dining room was full. I would have opted for traditional but it was full months out.

Actually, rotational dining sounds interesting if your waitstaff follows you. Then the only difference from my wish list is the location of the table. But a little confused about menu... does the menu stay the same in each dining venue (i.e. Silk will always have an Asian theme such as DD does now) or will each venue have the same menu that changes each night like TD does now? I'm not sure how Disney handles rotational dining.

I liked rotational dining on Disney. I loved trying a different restaurant each night (different menu each night) and having the same wait staff ( their wait staff is amazing ) . The only thing I didn't like was the choice of times 5:45 or 8:15. The early seating is full so quickly and just a touch early if you are on an excursion but the late seating ( which is what I had) was soooooo late. By the time you got an appetizer it was almost 9 and you were finished eating until almost 10. Every night I had a bloated full stomach trying to fall asleep. Plus knowing dinner is so late we would end up having a snack later in the afternoon to hold us over until dinner so we ended up eating more food than we really needed.

  2. I got them in the Windjammer, but it took 15 minutes to get them and I had to go to the head chef to his daily irritation. At the end of the cruise, the chef told me that the batter was made in the MDR. So this cruise I'll go to the MDR for breakfast and order them. It will be nice to start the day without the chaos that is Windjammer.

Thank you! I have celiac and dh and I are cruising the oasis in May. I'm trying to get as much information as possible so I don't waste time running around that massive ship in search of gf food lol.

  3. I agree with this. I have Ulcerative Colitis which is kept in check by eating gluten free. The reactions from the staff ran the gamut. The extremes were a waiter freaking out as described above to a waiter just answering everything was gluten free when I knew it couldn't be. Luckily, an excellent head waiter looked out for me when he was in the MDR and would walk over after my interactions with the staff to correct what was said and offer alternatives. Then I could decide for myself what I wanted.

What I've found is that there are many ways to prepare things like sauces - an easy example. They could be thickened with wheat flour, corn starch, or just a simple reduction. The wheat flour is the problem, but the other 2 are fine. If the staff jumps to prepare that sauce a different way just for me, I get a different product that most of the time is not as good and not worth asking for when there's another option on the menu that has no gluten in it and would taste better as prepared.

Now those gluten-free pancakes are worth asking for. :)

Where Can I get the gf pancakes ?

  4. Thankfully we paid for all of our beverage packages and speciality meals last weekend for our upcoming back to back. We paid for our one ship shore excursion a long time ago.

I would have a hard time paying close to $40 a person Canadian for Chops, espically when you could go to the Keg for the same cost or less.

Close to $40...when I looked this morning it was $43.05 per person for chops ( you have to make a dummy reservation to see the actual price.) Giovanni's is $30.75 now!

  5. Good call. We bought one a few weeks ago but only decided recently to get another. Guess we're splitting the difference!

At least you got the bargain for one package! I booked and paid for our specialty restaurants ( in canadian $) as well and I will use our obc for gratuities.

  6. I booked a 'St.john self tour' through rcl. They get you to St.john and back and once there you have 4-5 hours on your own to do as you please. I can't report on it as our cruise isn't until May. I just wanted the security of being on an excursion organized through RCL just in case.

  7. To continue my previous post DH and I are sailing the oasis and I booked and paid for 5 specialty restaurants on the canadian website and once onboard I will receive a 30% onboard credit ( all obc are in US dollars) for the value of the restaurant fees paid. I also have a $200 onboard credit that I will use to pay our gratuities. I figure with our current exchange rate I've saved quite a bit paying for as much as I can ahead of time. It will only be a matter of time until rccl changes the pricing for Canadians given the exchange rate.

  8. I think you are better off to purchase ahead of time in canadian dollars on the rccl website. If you wait and purchase onboard it will be in U.S. dollars and you will have the exchange rate to consider .

Just as an example the ulitmate package for Canadians is $60/day plus 15% which works out to $483

If I purchase onboard in US dollars it will be $55/day plus 15% which works out to $442 US $ plus the current exchange makes it $552 canadian.

  9. Only get Ultimate if you plan to drink coffee drinks. If you get at

least 2 a day it is worth it (lattes, mochas, frappucinos, etc). It would not be worth it for the OJ in my opinion. On sea days my husband and I easily had $100 in drinks a day and port days more than broke even. Enjoy!

I believe that you also get sparkling water with the ultimate package and not with premium. I'm not a huge coffee drinker but I love sparkling so I chose the ultimate for my upcoming cruise

  10. Thanks everyone! I am going to take the patch (we are in Canada and it is over the counter here) and I was going to take gravol as well. As long as I have everything he may try without or go without after the first 3 day patch. He loves the patch except for the dry mouth that goes along with it.

  11. Hello,

DH is prone to motion sickness. We have cruised twice on the disney fantasy and he wore the patch both times and was fine. I have heard that the oasis is really stable and we are debating skipping the patch because of the mildly annoying side effects. We are sailing in May eastern Caribbean. Can anyone offer any first hand experiences ?

  12.
I don't buy into the luggage weight issue too much after reading threads on smuggling booze on board. There are few things we would pack that are heavier than eight rum runners or a box of wine, yet people don't complain about the weight they add to their packed suitcase.

People dress as they like now, but I still enjoy being a little more dressy than usual on formal nights.
I don't smuggle booze in my suitcase but I still don't want to try and pack my husbands suit jacket. It takes up half the suitcase! We bring dress shirts and ties.
