  1. I believe the deposit is nonrefundable in the UK.

Were you asked for a UK address? I understand this is usually requested.

Deposit is deffo non-refundable if booked in the UK.

We have booked the other way round (UK citizen via a USA TA) never asked for an address in USA.

One advantage to UK citizens booking via UK is the consumer protection offered by legislation. RCCI are acutely aware of this hence no refunds etc and usually higher pricing.

I would have some doubt if a north American resident would benefit from the extra protection , especially if it escalated up the judicial system.

But if the price is right and you are aware of the potential 'risks' - why not [emoji41]

  2. So, you sit at a two-top with your companion, correct? Then for the life of me I don't understand why it bothers you if someone at a table that you're not even sitting at takes a photo of their food. For goodness sake pay attention to your own table and not other tables. I don't pay attention to other tables, I'm too busy enjoying my own dining companions. What someone else does at their own table is their own business, not yours.

Who said anything about getting physical with you? *scratching my head over that one for sure* If anyone said anything about physically assaulting you, I guess I missed that. .,,,,,

This post is correct in more than one way.

  3. Do remember that you making it MY problem would result in your camera being taken away. If you wish to bother other tablemates by taking pics of your food, then get a table for 2. If my meal is "disturbed" by others' insensitivity, then trust me, their meal will get "ruined" by MY response!

    I have a question .

Who would be the member of staff removing the camera ?

Don't think any Maitre d would.

If anyone tried to take away my camera other than an authorised member of staff then security would be involved. Not that I would be taking pics of food.

Concerned at the implied violence in this ( & other posts by this poster) post.

  4. Got a price on the phone today. "we are only doing 7 nights - but you can do a back to back "

me " not to keen as many sea days not to mention the changeover hassle at half- time"

X UK " 14 night trips are only popular with the Brits"

me " not sure that is correct , one has been on the same trip last 4 years and struggle to get cabins we want - think 14 nights are not that popular with some in Miami [emoji12]"

    X UK " oh"

    X UK " Edge jan 2019 - only £2699 per person for a balcony "

me " that is double that I paid for a hump cabin on Eclipse this year- expected a premium but double for an itinerary I don't really desire"

X UK " I dont know what to say,we were told everyone will prefer Edge to the Solstice Class"

    I couldnt stop laughing [emoji41][emoji41][emoji41][emoji41][emoji41]

  5. The definition of etiquette is the customary code of polite behavior in society. It would seem that reading through this thread that the majority of the reported sightings stem from a lack of etiquette. I am not pointing fingers anywhere other than to point out that society seems to have let this "polite behaviour" slide. There is a distinct "me first" or "I'm more important than anyone else" attitude that has invaded society and as a result, threads like this will continue to proliferate. (but they are funny to read :-) )

    Agree totally with this post.

The attitude of some is not helped by Celebrity's choice of the word 'Elite' in the Captains Club levels. Some people think this means they are in some way 'Elite' and somehow superior to the 'cretinous' people who are on their first/second boat trip.

In truth 'Elite' gets you some socks washed and a discount on the ridiculously overpriced internet.

I have a confession. I did use the discount on the 'ridiculously overpriced' internet because SWMBO demanded an unlimited package. Not only is she an elite member she is truly superior.

  6. Still sounds like my group, only Brits and Canadians though and all of the Brits live in the US or Canada now.:D

Sorry but they aint Brits if they live in Canadia or Trumpton.

They are undoubtedly wise to live in Canadia - but they no longer Brits even if they have a passport. To be a true Brit like me you have to be stupid enough to live in Britain with our great weather and crazy ideas . but we do drive on the correct side of the road [emoji12][emoji8]

  7. Should I tip more in the Specialty Restaurants if I wear asuit on Chic Nights? Or can I tip less,if I don’t wear a suit in the Specialty restaurant on a Chic night?

I cannot do much of the above anyway

Boss Lady doesn't do spec restaurants on chic nights. QED neither do I

i have to wear a Dinner Suit on Chic nights (SWMBO cruise rule number 1)

It is not possible for me to to tip less (English language definition)

  8. Recenly got off Eclipse after a14 night cruise. Many of the people like us were on same cruise last year. Sort of amused sort of cross to see really nice people who thought it was OK to

    1. Couple A reserved sunbeds from before 7 a.m. despite the husband never sitting on them as needed to play cards all day.

    2. Couple B -they spent most if the day on the 5 beds they reserved 3 in the sun & 2 in the shade

    Priceless [emoji41][emoji41][emoji41][emoji41]☀️☀️☀️

  9. You did the correct thing by not confronting/arguing with the chair hog. However pointing out the chair hog and the number of chairs being saved to a pool deck attendant is fair game!

yeah coz these guys get paid a fortune ?

if you have a beef - man up and take it up wiv the peops concerned or go seek out guest relations

  10. Maybe you should change the title of the thread to "United Airlines- Never Again!!!"

Not sure. I was booked by choice air to return from san diego to uk with reasonable connections etc. the main leg was a BA flight from LAX to LHR

choice air informed us of a change that would mean 5 hours in san diego & 6 in LA. When I called them they said that the BA flight had been cancelled. I accessed the BA website and could make a booking & told the operator she said BA was lying.

The original flight was never cancelled but choice air refused to move me back. BA were sympathetic and offered for us ti move back on original flight but ChoiceAir would not budge - hopeless [emoji35]

  11. We were on the 11/27 cruise which was the 6th time in 7 years that we have taken this same cruise after Thanksgiving. DW and I tend to spend a lot of time in deck chairs on the pool deck and vary between chairs in the shade and the sun. On not one occasion did we have a problem finding loungers. Perhaps one cannot find a lounger in their preferred location, but there were always loungers (sun or shade) anytime we wanted to relax. We have spent a lot of time cruising (stopped counting after the first 1000 days) and Celebrity has always been a line (especially on S-Class ships) where we do not even worry about the ability to find a deck chair whether it be 11am or 2pm.

As to the issue about the delayed boarding, it was actually caused by some issues with the US Authorities. They also jerked around a Carnival ship (located pretty close to the Eclipse) on that same day...and we saw Carnival passengers still disembarking well after 11am. This was not the fault of Celebrity..who had all kinds of problems because CBP also delayed the ability of the ship to start loading supplies.

We also take issue with Select Dining posts, where we think blame needs to be shared by both the cruise line and cruisers. The original idea of Select was that you showed-up when you pleased and got seated. But now, we have lots of folks who want "reservations," "special waiters, special tables, specific size tables, etc. And they want it at the same time every night (sounds more like Fixed Dining then Select). This defeats the purpose a logistics of Select Dining. If you reserve a specific table, and its not available because other diners are just not finished...you are going to wait! We have seldom ever had issues in Select because we simply show-up when we want to dine, tell the man at the door that we are happy to share a large table, and we are generally seated within a very short period of time. The passengers that are always trying to make all these demands at Select, get what they deserve :). Next time, just do Fixed seating.

  12. I was in a Michelin starred restaurant last night. Chatting with the Head Chef afterwards I asked how much Romaine or Iceberg lettuce he uses in a year.

"None" he said. Then he added "no decent restaurant would use such rubbish". I pointed out that a lot of Cruise people seem to like it. Dare not post what his response was as the Hosts will not like it [emoji12]

I will not return to this restaurant. The meal was fantastic but for the Chef to question the taste of Cruise Critic posters is quite unacceptable. [emoji15]

  13. Whilst I totally agree with your be nice philosophy I would like to suggest that these variable discounts whether I like you or not highlights one of the biggest issues on Celebrity, inconsistencies between the answers you get from crew.

Add in that they overlook that all guests are not from one culture for negotiating or rewarding service and it's a recipe for a shambles. Far too many mavericks now some of whom are genuine and others are just playing games for tips.

I'm on holiday I don't want to waste time "negotiating" for discounts, it should be stated package prices only supported by daily advertised additional discounts if times were slow.

On our last cruise the conclusion of a romantic dinner in a speciality restaurant was ruined by the hard sell first of the waiter then the Maitre d even going so far as to say we've provisionally booked you. Had to get very assertive to ask for the bill because they were holding onto it to 'give us more discount if we rebooked". In the end because it spoilt the end we left no additional tip, no doubt our cards are marked so that's us stuffed for future discounts.

That my rant over, stop the barrow boy hawking, that's not modern luxury.....

Sort of agree with the post. Dont like the haggling over prices either . Interesting that that the poster is saying that the Bill for the meal they had enjoyed would be discounted further if they agreed to rebook.

I would have played them at their own game. Agree to a rebooking - the bill gets lowered - cancel the following day [emoji41]

  14. The "terms" included TIPS from the guests.....I guess you ignored that part of the deal.

If you don't want to tip then refuse service in your stateroom...clean it yourself and eat in the buffet for every meal.....

How can you know this ? Very strange contract if it is. Over here HMRC would take an interest.

My contract with Celebrity includes the rooms being cleaned daily plus dinner in the MDR. I have paid for these services within the cost of the cruise.

If it is as bad as some on here say then Celebrity could always include the Auto-Grats in the cruise price and cease allowing guests to remove them.
