  1. Has anyone payed out of pocket to eat at Cagney's since the most recent price increases?

Also the latitudes coupon says that there is an upcharge for entrees over $20, considering there aren't any under $20 entrees has anybody experienced this upcharge actually happening, we didn't have it charged on breakaway in Oct.

  2. Carnival doesn't do nearly as much nickel and dining attempts as NCL. much less specialty dining, no extra charge items at specialty restaurants, free room service. Internet is cheaper, unlimited, and usable.

And yes, Carnivals MDR is much better than NCL with much more premium options including lobster, and shrimp cocktail every night, something dearly missed on NCL as it is served on I believe every single other US based line. NCL is also the only US line not to serve complimentary lobster.

Is there anyone anywhere that considers Carnival upscale?  Pretty much everyone I know that cruises that line does so because they're cheap.

Carnival is more upscale than Norwegian, they serve better, more premium food in the MDR, and have a dress code, giving for a more elegant experience.

The main reason we sail NCL is because it's cheaper than Carnival and O'Sheehans.

Have you every been on a Carnival Cruise?

I am sure there is a cost reasoning behind this. There used to be a lot of crab and lobster on cruises back in the day. When I was little I remember my parents on Carnival where they could order as many lobster tails as they liked.

You can still get as many free lobster tails as you want on carnival. Remember, NCL stands for NO COMPLIMENTARY LOBSTER.

Are you booking for four in the room?  My cruise did the same but it was because of the 3rd and 4th guest free in balconies and above.

The free 3rd and 4th are for all cabin categories, the reason they automatically apply it on the cruise search results page is because of the "Take all 5" offer which automatically takes the 3rd and 4th fare off the cheapest non sail away rate. In your example if you go through the booking process you will see that insides are actually cheaper you just have to choose the cheapest Subcategory that's not sail away.

Thanks, that's what I'm hoping. I work from home/self employed, so I have the flexibility to wait til very last minute. I'm trying to wait this one out and see if it lowers, because I really want to try out NCL and it looks like a great ship.

I agree, wait until they drop the single supplement, about 1-3 weeks before the cruise. If you enjoy the Joy and think you will sail on NCL again, get the CruiseNext certificates onboard, they can be used on any 6 day or longer cruise and you can use 2 per cabin and work out great for single travelers as its per cabin not per person. For example, say a 7 day cruise is $500 (cruise fare) + $150 (taxes and fees) when using 2 CruiseNext you would be paying $400 out of pocket total since you get basically a $125 discount for each $250 voucher you buy.

  7. Noticed this as well with the early Jan Getaway sailings out of New Orleans. I'd expect the price to drop down to correct levels reasonably soon. As per usual, with NCL, it is best to book extremely last minute for >90% of sailings, though we booked our Jan cruise in October because we booked 3 cabins and we wanted them near each other.

  8. Back in the day of Blue Lagoon on Jewel class ships they were able to make food to-go and it came out very quickly (within 10 minutes) and came ready with the domes over the food and silverware and all. I wonder if the re brand to O'sheehans has made the restaurant much more popular on the jewel class.

  9. Wondering if anyone else has experienced this on a recent NCL cruise, we were on the Breakaway Oct. 13. First comedy show was ok, the first lady was from NY and not that funny, but the second guy James Johann from Kansas was hilarious. Second night they had comedy in the main theatre, maybe 15 minutes for each comic and they were 70% repeat jokes, no idea why they did that show. Third night advertised on the daily paper as an all new show we saw James Johann and this time it was all repeat jokes some of them we had now heard 3 times. We did not go to any other comedy shows as every one was advertised as an all new show, though we were tempted to go and finish his punchlines before he was done telling the joke.

Anybody know why NCL does this? Do they figure everyone is on the drink package and won't remember the jokes from day to day? On carnival they have 4 comedians a week doing 1 to 2 different family shows each, so about 4 times as much as NCL. Wanted to talk to the comedy show manager guy, he was very tall, but we couldn't find him after the show like you can on carnival.

Complimentary lobster in MDR gone years ago. Shrimp offerings greatly reduced as well. Just so the bigwigs at NCL can report to  their stockholders bigger profits..

I wonder if NCL would be successful if they offered Lobster in the MDR for an added fee..ala Carnival ?

Carnival has free lobster in the dining room, actually nearly every cruise line does just not NCL.

I read they removed it on Summit, guess you’ll have to see about Equinox.  Big mistake IMHO

Currently on summit, they were grilling fresh meats cooked to order yesterday during dinner. They couldn't manage to make a steak that wasn't raw tho, we tried twice.
