  1. Update

I was going to keep our flights but then went on United's website and saw they had a good flight at 1pm. I called and was able to get everything switched over to that flight. Much better connections as well. (Our original flight had a long layover!)

I feel much more comfortable with some wiggle room. Last thing I want to do is be stressed after my trip to Hawaii!

  2. Thank you everyone.

This is the second change on our United Flight with no notice. I did sign up for notices but got nothing.

I wish we could stay an extra day. Being our flights are scheduled it would probably be costly to try and rebook for another day plus get a hotel. I do see later flights so I am going to call United and see what we can do. I really do not want to chance missing our flight.

  3. The worse part is that I did not even get a notice. I was just checking on the website and saw the change. This is the second change with no notice. I had decent seats picked out for the flight as well. Very frustrating.

IMO, way too close. Remember that Honolulu traffic can be worse than Los Angeles. Moreover, you'll have multiple security lines incl Hawaii Ag authorities to clear.

Hopefully, you didn't accept the changed itinerary notice on the airline website message. Instead, call them and ask for "no charge" schedule change. United is really good about making that accommodation. Don't know about others.

  4. Great suggestions. We have a rental car in Maui as well and are trying to decide what we want to do.

I think we want to check out the plantation and then head to Lahaina and check out the beaches. I also hope to see the Iao needle. Second day I think we will just do a little bit along the Hana Highway.

  5. We are doing the Movie tour on our last day. We opted to go with the NCL tour over Roberts because of the early departure time. I'm sure there will be no problem with Roberts but in the event of any unforeseen issues like heavy traffic, accidents, flat tires etc. we feel more comfortable with the ships tour even though it is more expensive.

That was my only concern as well but Roberts does promise to get you back on time or they will fly you to the next port on their dime. (I do worry about that promise being kept)

  6. I did the Roberts tour on Kauai. No problem getting back to the ship on time.

It was pleasantly cheesy, our guide was a younger woman who acted like she was into it (which helps). We did a lunch stop on the return that was included in the price.

There aren't that many roads on Kauai and for the most part we stuck to the eastern side. Saw the beach where an exterior shot of Gilligan's Island was filmed, a destroyed motel where Elvis like to hang out (Blue Hawaii), the open spaces where parts of Jurassic Park were filmed, they tried a singalong from South Pacific.

Not a bad use of the part day we had left.

Sounds like a nice tour. Did you see any waterfalls?

  7. Hi all

Has anyone done either the Roberts Hawaii Movie Tour or NCL's Movie Tour?

If so did you enjoy it? It looks like a nice way to see some pretty sights and a nice way to end our cruise.

If you did Robert's tour was there any worry about getting back to the ship in time? It's cutting it close at 1pm!

  8. Not sure what you have planned for your first day, but I highly recommend seeing Kauai from the air. Last time I did a helicopter tour, and this time we are trying the Cessna tour by Wings Over Kauai. Either is a decent option to do on a short day. There is also a beach within walking distance from the port if you are ready to relax after such a busy trip!

We are actually doing the Cessna tour on the first day, and then the Movie Tour through NCL on the second day. I tried to strategically buffer some down time between all the long excursions. I remember being exhausted by the end of the cruise the last time I did this trip and I was younger & in better shape ;p.

Our first day we are doing a bi-plane tour with Air Ventures. (It's on my hubby's bucket list!) That will be in the morning and then later that day we are doing a river tour and then Luau through Roberts Hawaii.

I think we decided to do the Hawaii Movie Tour the second day. Looks pretty relaxing and a nice way to wrap up the vacation.

We figured we will back on the ship by 1pm and can relax the rest of the day. :D

  9. I think we finally finalized our plans for April

Thursday - Fly in to Honolulu (should be there around 2pm) Get settled in the hotel and walk over to the beach

Friday - Pearl Harbor and city tour then relax on the beach and catch the fireworks

Saturday - Visit Diamond Head. 2pm catch shuttle to pier.

Sunday - Maui - Rent car and visit Lahaina and the beaches

Monday - Rental car to Haleakala and Ioa Valley. Make a few other stops if time allows

Tuesday - Hilo - Tour of Volcanos National park with Ricky's Tours

Wednesday - Kona - No Plans, just walk around the area

Thursday - Bi-Plane ride with Air Ventures in the morning. Afternoon we have a river cruise an Luau through Roberts

Friday - Hawaii Movie Tour (Not sure if we are using Roberts or NCL yet)

    Can't wait!

  10. We are doing the Movie tour through the ship even though it is more expensive than Roberts. Since it is such a short day, we feel more comfortable doing it through the ship.

Yes - that was my thought as well. Roberts has a similar tour that is cheaper but it will be cutting it close with a 1pm return time. They do guarantee to get you back to the ship though

  11. On our first day in Kauai we are going to Waimea Canyon in the morning and Smith's Luau (from Roberts) in the late afternoon. This didn't give us time to see much of the island so we opted to take the Movie Tour on the second day in which we should see a lot more of the island. Due to the short day, we are doing it through the ship.

We were considering the Movie Tour as well. Are you doing it through Roberts or through the ship?

  12. These boards have been so helpful. Thank you to all who offer great advice.

We are in the final stages of planning our trip on POA in April.

Any advice on the 2nd day in Kauai? We have a very full first day but the second day is a short day so we do not want to venture too far. Is there a nice area near the port to visit that we can walk to? Our other ideas were a tour to Waimea Canyon or the Hawaii Movie Tour. Anybody done either and what did you think?

  13. We used the enterprise right by port in Maui. They don’t open until 7 but that worked for us. In Kauai, we rented from enterprise at the Marriott right by port.

Did you walk over or use a shuttle? How was overnight parking? We have a vehicle rented already but this might be easier.

  14. We did it back in May. We started out with 5 shots of rum and a lesson on the history of rum. After we went to an art gallery and had some rum cake and conch fritters along with a bahama mama.

We went to a resort that had chocolates and a cigar factory. Sampled chocolate and had a chance to look around. Next was gelato!

Last we went to a distillery for more rum!

Tour was awesome. Orchid was our guide and she was amazing. We had a blast!

  15. Diet coke lover here!

I am sailing next April on NCL and just found this out as well. I was going to get the soda package until I found this out.

I can tolerate diet Pepsi when I have to but I find on the cruise I really do not drink a lot of soda. I drink more water or lemonade as well as trying new alcoholic drinks!

Think of it as a chance to try out new drinks and when in port grab that coke! (It will be cheaper!)

  16. Hi

The Napali Coastline is so beautiful. I know on the POA we will be sailing by it but I see there are smaller vessels that would take you along the coast. Is this something we should do and if so are there any small vessels docked near where the POA docks that we could get a tour?

  17. Just another question on Blue Hawaiian in Kauai. I would doing the tour with my husband. If they assign seats does that mean there is a chance I won't be sitting with him? I would hope one of us has a window seat and can lean over the other!

  18. Hi all

What time do we have to be off the Pride of America once it docks?

What do you all do regarding transportation to the airport?

I have not booked my airfare yet but most of the flights are afternoon flights. I was hoping we could stow our luggage and do something (if there is anything nearby). Is there any shops or tours or something within walking distance. If not I think we will just try to book an earlier flight if possible.
