  1. The restaurant is free and serves breakfast, lunch and dinner daily.

In September, there were only a few kids but were well-behaved. I think it really depends on when you are going (e.g., more kids during school vacations and summertime).

There is plenty of space near the Haven pool to lounge and relax or you can go up one flight to find additional seating/lounge chairs both indoors and out.

I spent a lot of time on the Haven outside deck and it was never crowded.

You will also have a butler who brings you snacks each day and a concierge who will make all your dinner/show reservations.

  2. Oh yes!!!--the well vodka is GIbley's and it IS horrible...:o--I switched to wine....;)

Curious at to what your wine options were with the CAS card?

    Appreciate any responses.

Unfortunately with Lucky or Hot status, the wine choices are (literally) red or white; both not so good. When i was Hot, I did get an ok from the host to get pinot grigio and now that I am Golden, I can pretty much order what I want.

  3. I think you can leave a little earlier if you like. New Haven is likely to be your bottleneck.

Coming down from northwest of Boston, Hartford is the bottleneck. I leave at 7 am and make a quick pit stop just east of Hartford about 8:40. By the time I get back on the road, the Hartford congestion has cleared out. This same strategy could work for New Haven.

IMO you want to take advantage of the 9-10 am drive time to get down the Merritt before the shoppers get on the road.

Yes, New Haven is always a nightmare. I am trying to time it so I am not sitting in THAT traffic, especially with all the road construction going on. My usual trip time (traveling on a Saturday or Sunday) is approx. 2 1/2 hours from my home to the pier. I probably should allow at least 3 hours on a Friday morning.

    Thanks for all the info,

    Tracy

  4. They have many large market umbrellas for shade. I found Vibe on Breakaway to be one of my favorite places on the ship. Even though the passes sold out for the week, it never, ever felt crowded and there was always a place to lounge in or out of the sun.

Waiters come around with fruit skewers and cool wipes (both free) all day long. I loved it up there!

If you do wish to get a pass, you will need to be in the first boarding group and head directly to Guest Services to purchase the pass.

    Enjoy!

  5. Glad everyone liked the video!

To answer your question - it was an aft penthouse balcony I think. These are colored green on most deck plans aft in both rear corners of each deck.

If I were to guess we were in 12304. These are suites and include key card access to the Haven.

    Hope that answers your question.

It was awesome of the cruise critic'ers to share their room with us on the cabin crawl.

And a special thank you to Cindy and HarpHarp for organizing it so well.

Thank you, I was originally booked in that category for my upcoming cruise then switched it to a Haven spa suite because the spa pass is included. I have to remember that for next time though -- it looks gorgeous!

    Happy Thanksgiving,

  6. I live in Rhode Island, not too far from Boston. I have found that the easiest, most direct route to the pier is:

95 South to the Merrit Pkwy South to the Hutchinson River Pkwy South to the Cross County Pkwy (toward GW Bridge) to the Saw Mill South to the Henry Hudson Pkwy south to the terminal parking.

I know it sounds like a lot of highways, but I can get to the pier in 2 1/2 hours from here.

    Have a great cruise!

  7. Not sure what you mean but when I made my dining reservations for the specialties that offered outdoor seating, I just had them note my preference (indoor or out). You can make your reservations at Guest Services, through your concierge (if you are in a suite), or via touch screens throughout the ship (although on the touch screens there is no preference choice).

  8. On Breakaway, hubby and I plan to dine at Cagney's on the waterfront and we are hoping the life boats are not blocking the view to the water. I read somewhere on this forum that one of the restaurants has a lovely view that does not include looking at the lifeboats. Is that Cagney's? Looking at the deck plans, Cagney's is in the aft and that is the only restaurant that does not have lifeboats below them. I think I may have answered my own question.

To my recollection, Cagney's has no outdoor seating. There are tables overlooking the Manhattan Room below, though.

Ocean Blue outdoors has a nice view.

  9. This multi part question goes out to anyone who has been on NCL Breakaway, and plays slots:

A: Are there penny slots onboard NCL Breakaway?

B: Are there WMS/IGT slots onboard NCL Breakaway?

C: Do you remember the slot machine names? I specifically am looking for WMS Colossal Reels (Colossal Wizards, Giant's Gold, Van Hellsing, Li'l Red, ect), WMS G+ Deluxe or Life Of Luxury Deluxe Beir Haus...WMS Clue, Willy Wonka, ect.

(If anyone remembers seeing those titles on the Breakaway reply below, i'm scared it's going to be like all those 777/Bar/Fruit Symbol machines w/ some unknown computer themed games made by Bally specifically for cruise ships)

My choice was Vegas for 2 weeks, going on a cruise instead...

I have been on Breakaway twice and think I played every slot in the casino. I don't recall any of the ones you listed, though. Lots and lots of multi-reel penny slots. One of my favorites was Hot Hot Habanero. Definitely no Life of Luxury. They are all newer video slots and many were lots of fun. Hope that helps. Also many Quick Hit machines.

  10. It has been many years since I have sailed with NCL. I remember the specialty restaurants as being very good (10 years ago!) so please can you advise which are the best these days?

One did a chocolate fondu which was to die for - cannot remember which one this was? And one we sat in wonderful curved banquettes looking out to sea...?

Does anyone have copies of the menus please?

    TIA.

The chocolate fondue (to die for!) is served at Le Bistro. One of my favorites.
