  1. Well even here in the UK we now have Five Guys, one within 3.5 miles of my home, and after my experience there at the equivalent cost of $33 for 2 cheeseburgers and fries, I'd rather pay $13.90 for that and more and onion rings at Johnny Rockets onboard, just my opinion as food quality is subjective. And again, that's my benefit, that and they are far superior than the rubbish passed off as a burger in the WJ.

How anyone can say they are on par in quality with those served in the WJ is deluded. There is no comparison. The WJ burgers are a thin piece of goodness knows what, at least I can recognise ground beef in JR's burgers. I've never seen a burger in the WJ look anything like the one from JR's as shown in post 69 of this thread.

Agreed. Delusional indeed. Much better than WJ. "Where can you get a burger that wasn't frozen?" Or whatever was said... I'd prolly say the same place that everything else on the ship that's never been frozen comes from. Pretty sure the piles of fresh fruit and veggies or my steak from chops are other examples of non frozen goods. Silly comment for sure.

  2. What is the passenger capacity of Navigator?? Even though I sail on her twice next April and have been on three of her sister ships I can't seem to remember..... Let's just say it's like 4000 people for the sake of the convo...

Now let's say the ship is (was) only 50% booked to this point... Sounds like a legit percentage.... Happy medium.

This is where the "thousands" come from and not "only a few". Hence why they have standard offers for everyone affected and don't stray from them even the slightest bit. Can't give one person one thing and someone else something better. That just wouldn't fly with information sharing sites such as this these days.

I agree 100% that it's a crappy situation you are in, but you can't expect you will get a better offer because you spoke with someone on the phone from RCCL.

As all of us people who have a TON of experience with them will tell you, you can call any time of day and speak with 3 different people who will give you three different answers about stuff that is common knowledge on CC.

I rely on CC for info FAR more than I do with Royals call center.

  3. I don't think they need "to sign a contract" for it to be legally binding. It is the same when you buy any goods/commodity etc it can be verbal and once money has been exchanged then that is the contract. They have broken the contract with you by selling the goods...or your cruise cabin...to some one else for a higher price. Maybe they can wriggle out of it by stating their T&Cs but maybe not especially when extra cost has been involved as in germanfflyer's case.

I once took on one of the "big boys" of travel...TC...(not sure if I can state company so I have only put the initials)....and won. At the start they hid behind their T&Cs but I was like a "dog with a bone" and wouldn't let it go but you have to be determined so germanfflyer give it a go...they will initially keep stonewalling you...be determined

I think the thousands upon thousands that they have affected including myself even in the past year alone, would have started a class action if there was anything there worth it. My extra costs were astronomical and I went from 9 nights to 7. But hey, it was still a vacation, and we didn't get stuck on it.

There comes a point where it's just time to move on and either cancel or switch to a different cruise. There are plenty of options considering how far away it is still.

My notice was 10 days. Try dealing then. But again, we dealt with it and moved on.

  4. Adam, you need to get over to our Roll Call and sign up! Gonna take you awhile to get caught up on that thread. We've been VERY active for over a year now. Great bunch of folks sailing.

    Congrats on the upcoming nuptials!

That's awesome! I will do that. My roll call for Oasis this sept is kind of a dud, so that will be a relief haha.

    And thank you!

  5.

Judi, can you switch to the 9 day cruise immediately prior to the 4/23 cruise? JRS1962, Germanfflyer and I are on that cruise. We've also got a rollicking good Roll Call going strong, too. Should be a blast if you could do it. The more the merrier!

I just realized I haven't added myself (Adam) to that role call! (April 14th) It will be myself and my Fiancé.... Well by then, wife, (Traci) on the April 14 sailing. We are actually getting married on the April 9th NOS sailing woot!!!

As far as the OP expecting anything as far as compensation from RCCL, it will never happen. I was on the Empress merry go round and cancelled just weeks before the cruise and offered the 4 night vs 5 etc etc. Ended up switching to oasis 7 night and paid the prevailing rate 2 weeks out. Went from 9 nights B2B to 7 on oasis for much more $$$. Travel dates weren't flexible that close to the sailing. We got 100 OBC. That's it. So don't get your hopes up for anything good.

  6. The adult show made me slightly uncomfortable, can't imagine bringing a child in to it! The oasis class one tend to be pretty raunchy. Why, why do people feel kids have to be Every where. Sorry for the rant!!

Keep in mind that the comedians are different on a weekly basis. So one show can be far worse than another etc etc.

I went on a B2B first oasis and then Indy in April, and the comedian was on both ships at the same time as me lol. Same jokes and all, which was a bummer.

  7. Not sure who made the comment on percentage but it's actually about 15% of American adults that's smoke now not 20. And dropping.... You are a dying breed thankfully. Pun intended. So gross.

I agree it would be much more enjoyable if it were banned. I would definitely be using the casino more.

  8. Hi,:) the restaurants are listed on my cruise planner too but no links to

    buy a package.

I reached my TA and she told me the package cannot be purchased

until after final payment. (next month):)

I have to kindly disagree. I have had my dining package purchased for oasis in sept for several months now. Final payment was fairly recent.

Same on my last oasis cruise in April.

  9. I purchased the 5 night package for my Oasis cruise back in April this year, I had the same sort of questions and reservations as you but I went ahead anyway.

You get to choose either the first or second night you wish your first reservation to be on and they choose the restaurant you are to dine in. The other 4 nights you book whilst your onboard.

I chose the first night for my initial reservation, I can't recall which venue they booked me into but as soon as I boarded I went to Giovani's and changed the reservation to Chops which was no problem at all. Whilst I was there I made another 2 reservations for nights 2 and 3 for other resturants without any problems. As a side note you can go to any specialty restaurant and make reservations for all venues.

The remainder of my allocation for reservations I saved and just made bookings later during the cruise depending where I wanted to dine. I had no problem being able to go the restaurant of choice later in the week I just had to be a little flexible on timings which I am fine with.

If you are the type who likes to plan you will have no problem in booking everything you want and the times you want as soon as you board, everything we wanted was open with plenty of slots, I guess they hold back reservations for onboard booking only.

Once onboard I found the process to be very flexible and I would book this again in a heartbeat. Actually I am looking to book the Allure for next month and will again book the 5 night package.

    Hope that helps.

I agree with almost everything you said and said it all vey well....

The one exception to the rule is the Hibachi side of Izumi... You have to call or go there specifically, as they make reservations a bit differently there. I would also highly recommend going there to eat, as it was the best meal we've ever had at sea!

  10. :D:D:D:D:D

This is very true. As one of the guests without air conditioning the duration of the cruise, and had to endure the drills and ongoing construction towards the inside wall of our room at all hours of the night and morning despite asking them to stop — this boat, and the response and service from Royal Caribbean do not even deserve a foot-long turd. That would be too nice for them.

    Back to Carnival for us.

Seeee yaaaaaaaa! Most of their ships aren't any better. Why not go on a real royal ship lol?

  11. Sailing on the Empress will be our first cruise with RC. I was looking at length of cruise, a stop at Key West and a decent price. I booked in March and didn't learn of the Empress' history until April when cruises started getting canceled. Live and learn. We'll be sailing the Harmony in April 2017 so I'm giving RC a second chance....regardless of how our first RC trip turns out.

Good to hear!! You will love Oasis class. Will be pretty different than Empress haha.

  12. . . . and these were not supposed to be the first sailings. RCL cancelled weeks worth of sailings before these actually sailed. The people that booked these cruises would not have been on the shakedown cruises. . . . you just never know what will happen.

But, I agree this ship was brought back for a unique purpose and does not represent the rest of the brand.

I'm aware that these were not the first sailings. I was part of the people booked in early April. That is not what I was meaning tho.

We switched to Oasis due to inflexible vacation times.

What is crazy to me is that some of these same people who were booked on the later sailings, and have been following along all this time, did not decide to switch ships while they still could.

We may give Empress a shot at some point, but you can sure bet it won't be until after many reports of all the kinks being worked out.

  13. The problem is, most first time cruisers have no idea that this ship is an odd duck. I am guessing most first time cruisers that booked this ship saw a decent itinerary and price and jumped on it. That is the problem with having a ship that doesn't really match your brand very well.

    well said.
