  1. What is your favorite snacks on board? My son loves snack which i plan on bringing some but, was wondering what snack you have found on board. I know when we went on the dawn last year we were able to get popcorn any place on board you can get stuff like that?

  2. We did August 2015. I wanted a smaller boat since we had previously did DCL and it was very overwhelming for my special needs son. We saved over 1000 and received UBP and 3rd passenger sailed free which was not available for same week cruise in NYC w breakaway. We loved it! It was exactly what we wanted plenty to do and not too big. I actually preferred NCL over DCL.

  3. Thanks for the response--I am sailing on 11-13 so your response is timely. Just out of curiosity, what made you prefer NCL over Disney?

     

    We're actually sailing on breakaway on 11/6. Disney cruise was very overwhelming to my son. He got lost in the shuffle in there kids club since it was so huge. NCL kids club on the Dawn was much smaller they also assigned me special needs coordinator in case of any issues on NCL. I felt like too many adult only area to a ship that specialize in family time too. We liked food better on NCL too. Overall I felt like we got more bang for our buck on NCL.

  4. Hello! Anyone have recent experience in the kids club? I have a 5 yr old DD and 7 yr old DS. What types of activities can I expect they will do--I have read all the general descriptions, but was looking for something little more specific--maybe an activity list/agenda for the day, etc--something outlining all the activities.

     

    Also, has anyone heard of any children getting hurt, etc? I have yet to see anything on that, which is a good sign. But my son is on the spectrum, so both of these issues matter to me.

    Not sure if you sailed yet but, My son is also on the spectrum and we did the Dawn with him last year and NCL was amazing when we need any help. They gave us a phone when he was in the kids club and did call us once asking how to handle a situation. I actually preferred NCL kids club over Disney. We are sailing on the Breakaway in a few weeks and the access desk has been a big help as they were on our last cruise.

  5. I may be wrong (someone will correct me) but I think you can access messages left on your phone from any of the phones on the ship. So if you are on deck 10 and see a phone on the wall you can call your cabin and access any messages left for you. You need to have a password I think.

     

    The nasty comments made by someone about special needs was horrible. I hope they are banned from cruise critic.:(

     

    Thank you. As long as the app works with our android phone we should be good but, just wanted to be prepared.

  6. With a special needs child contact the access desk and request two hand phones. These are wireless phones that can be used throughout the ship. They are used by the staff to communicate with each other and have been extremely valuable to us when sailing with our special needs child.

  7. good ole fashion notes that you slip under the door or you can call and leave them voicemail.. I am 97.3% positive that you cannot retrieve voice mail from another location so they would have to head back to the room to get updated locations.

     

    I am assuming you are lumping all smart phones into the "Apple" group or else I would've mentioned the app works on Android too

     

     

    I should have mentioned we have special needs child so hoping to figure out something with instant contact so if if she needs us when with him we can be reached.

     

    I thought I had read messaging only worked with Apple phone. Thanks .

  8. What is the best way to get in contact with another guest on board? We are traveling with my Sister who will be on Deck 10 and we are on Deck 5. Any suggestion on how to stay in contact if we want to meet some where? We do not have Apple phones so I don't believe the app will work.

  9. you said 'up charge' so i wanted to expand on that:

     

    upselling at a cheaper price than full fare usually means you keep the perks you got when you booked and nothing new

     

    upgrading is you just paying 'full price' for any room you want (credit given for the amount you already paid of course) and then you get the full perks of that room in effect today. I did this upgrading to haven about 60 days out at full fare when they started the free service charges and received all perks in effect.

     

    Thank you for Clarifying. This is only our second Cruise with NCL and never tired before.

  10. Just checking, did you book through NCL US or an international office?

     

    If they allow you to upgrade (they may or may not, since you are so close to sailing), you will get the current price and promo, which is two perks for oceanviews/balconies/min-suites. Extra Guests Free counts as one of the perks, if it is still available for your sailing. In other words, you will not be able to keep all three of the perks that you currently have.

     

    You can try calling the upsell office, and if they offer you something and you accept, you should be able to keep all of your original perks.

     

    We booked through TA. I had a feeling they wouldn't allow the 3 perks but, figured i would ask. Thank you I will try that.

  11. Which ship, which cabin?

     

    Look up the deck plans for your ship on the NCL site. The cabins are color-coded according to category.

     

    Also, your vacation summary should indicate the category you were assigned. Obstructed OV cabins are in category OK (or very occasionally OX).

     

    Breakaway 5774 we are OX but, doesn't say if it is obstructed. I did look on NCL ship deck and didn't see anything stating obstructed.

  12. We are booked for November 6th sailing out of NY with Ocean view Guarantee and see my cabin has been assigned. I was wondering how upgrades called like if you call in can you pay up charge if they have availability. We booked back in January so We got Kids sail free, Free specialty dinning and Free UBP. Has anyone had any luck with this?
