  1. Thank you for your live review of Ponant Great Lakes/Canada Cruise. It looked wonderful, different than ocean voyages, more similar to European river cruises. We have done a couple of river cruises on AMA and they were also wonderful, in a quieter way than Celebrity. If you like to mix up the cruises now between ocean and river, AMA had the options of a hiking or biking tour included in addition to regular town sightseeing tours.

I was just in my Cruise Planner and beverage packages are 50% off for a Memorial Day sale. Many other sales as well.

Thank you for the heads up Rich Yak, I just cancelled and rebooked 2 excursions saving $176.

    Awesome! Yoshi 🙂

We had this booked for Aug 2023 but received updated description. Instead of a salmon bake, they will serve Alaskan seafood and game meat. We canceled.

Looks like there may be a different excursion with whale watching and salmon bake available.

The "Alaskan seafood and game meat" may be fun to try, my guess if not salmon would be halibut or crab, although I imagine they have so much seafood variety up there. Not sure if the game would be venison or bear???

Honestly, I'm not sure.  I know we took a bus there and it was near Mendenhall.  There was gold panning and picnic tables set up with the food being buffet style.  There was a little shop inside to buy souvenirs.

Edit:  Just looked at pictures online of Orca.  No, definitely not!  That looks much nicer.  I liked ours, it was rustic and food was good.  That place looks a little more "classier" 🙂

thank you, I know we probably can't go wrong in Juneau, just want to choose wisely 🙂

    Happy travels to you!

We did our tour through Shoreexcursioneer dot com.  The Salmon bake was pretty good.  I don't eat Salmon but my husband does and he liked it.  The sides were excellent as was dessert.  It was not through Allen Marine for the whales.  There was also an option for Mendenhall.

We went to Mendenhall on our own in 2022 in the morning via bus that was $20 pp and took us all the way up to Mendenhall parking lot.  Then we walked the trail to the falls.  We then went back to Juneau and did our afternoon excursion of whale watching and salmon bake.  It was a busy day.  I was actually a little disappointed in the whale watching as I thought the boats went closer to the whales but we still enjoyed the experience.

Was your salmon bake at the Orca Point Lodge. Was it a nice facility?

Sorry about your whale watching experience, we were last in Juneau 17 years ago and had a good whale watching trip but no extras like the Orca Point Lodge meal and Mendenhall visit.

  6. Hi Jean, thank you for replying. Celebrity tours were offline when I tried to copy the description, the above snip is from Allen Marine who I assume does the tour independently. The Celebrity description also talked about seeing whales on the boat ride over and there is another option that includes a stop at Mendonhall Glacier. All of the Alaska tours seem so expensive so I want to make sure we are making a good choice.

  7. Hi All, not sure if it is ok to post this but I watched a You Tube video done by Josh and Rachael's Food and Travel called This is Why You Go to Alaska. It is 34 minutes long but if you don't want to watch the whole thing, go about 20 minutes into the show and they went to Tracy's on the way back to the ship.

    Looked yummy!

I tendered in Santa Barbara last fall with my walker.  I had no problems except I unknowingly wheeled through some dog poo and didn't realize it till we got back to the ship.  Fortunately, my daughter had a pack of wet wipes and we cleaned it up before tracking all over the place.  I will be extra diligent about that in the future.

ohhh, ick! sorry that happened to you & shame on the dog's owner for leaving a mess on the sidewalk.

I am not sure if DH can make the step into and out of the tender boats so we may have to skip Santa Barbara on the CA Coastal cruise

  9. I forgot to mention a few things about our cruise earlier this month, you can save some $ by booking some things in advance. We did the Hot Glass Class and made some beautiful glassware (vase and a flower) book in advance at onboard experiences and it is a good savings. We did the vineyard on a golf cart tour in Ensenada that was a nice day. Also bought some casino credits where you get 10% credit play if you book in advance. We were fortunate to get our cabins with the BCC so wanted to get a few extras on this cruise.

Don't forget to stop by Cafe Bacio to check out the treats, they had some goodies like coconut macaroons (my favorite) and lemon tarts. The coffees and teas cost $ but the goodies are complimentary☺️
