  1. We are doing the same thing.

Booked it as a 14 day because it was a little less and we get $250 shareholder OBC vs. $200 if 2 cruises.  We book standard fare so the extras with the packages didn’t matter.

We still get 2 cruise credits.

I did notice that it showed less cabin availability as a 14 day cruise.

Work out the numbers and see what is best for you.

If you use a FCD (future cruise deposit) to pay for the deposit on a cruise there is OBC included (varies depending upon cabin type and cruise length).  If you apply an FCD to an already booked cruise then no OBC only the value of the FCD.

Does anyone have the breakdown for the OBC you get when using a FCD?

Im looking at a 16 day Panamal cruise in either an inside or balcony.

I don’t currently have an FCD but could purchase in January.

I refuse to use this "new" method until they refuse to accept it using the email path.

I sent an email yesterday (Sunday) and I got an automated email stating the new procedure with a link. Guess we have no choice.

  4. I had read some of the negative comments regarding the Emerald Princess before we boarded on October 28. I think it’s in great shape. And we have sailed twice on the newer, larger ships. Our stateroom carpet looks fairly new. Shower curtain clean and white. Bed is fine (already had a topper on it). Sure there’s a nick here and there in the furniture, but who doesn’t have this in their house. I wouldn’t hesitate to sail on her again. We love this class of ship.

If you are a Costco member, check out the comprehensive travel insurance (trip cancellation, medical, and evacuation) that they sell.  It is offered through Cover-More, which is a subsidiary of pf Zurich Insurance.  You can't buy it on-line only by a phone call, (unless you booked through Costco Travel), but the premiums are very reasonable, and the coverage is better than offered through the Princess Platinum plan.

I just looked at this on Costco’s website and got a quote. It didn’t ask for age.  Or do they wait til you call and the price goes up if you’re older?

Sharing another video compilation of Buffet Breakfast food on our recent Caribbean Princess Cruise last month. I liked the great variety of pastries , assorted donuts and various fruit juice / smoothie selections available for breakfast that are lacking in other cruise lines.

    I think I just gained 10 pounds!

  7. We will be on the Emerald for a New England/Canada cruise departing NY on October 28, returning November 4.

Just received this notification regarding arrival time back in NY:

Please be advised that due to operational reasons, Emerald Princess will now arrive New York City at 7:00 AM on Saturday, November 4, 2023 rather than 6:00 AM as previously scheduled.

Is the Emerald experiencing any problems?  Not sure what to make of “due to operational reasons.”

Luckily it doesn’t affect our return flight since we don’t fly until 4:00

  8. Thanks all for your first hand experiences.

Since we would be flying Delta and using their AMEX card, we should be good if we decide to use EZair.

Sailing is October 28, so need to decide if we want to do this cruise or not.  Looks like it’s the last of the season for the Emerald doing Canada/New England.

  9. Does anyone have any experience with getting free checked baggage when using your airline credit card to pay for cruise and booking EZair.

For example we have the Delta AMEX and get one free checked bag.  I think it is supposed to be only when you book the flights directly with the airline.  EZ air is only about $20 less so it would not be worth it if I have to end up paying the checked bag fee.

The only reason I’m considering EZair is because we plan to fly in the morning of the cruise on a non-stop into LaGuardia for a 5:00 sail away.

  10. I faced the same dilemma with an Alaska cruise for May 2024. I could book as a 14 day or two 7 day cruises.

It was a little less as a 14 day and I will get $50 more shareholder OBC.  The only negative is that cabin choice was very limited. It seems they designate fewer cabins for the 14 day even though there were still lots more available for both segments.

I was pleasantly surprised that I will get 2 cruise credits for the 14 day.

  11. We will be on the Sapphire next May doing the exact same 14 day itinerary.

Could u tell me what time the PES cocktail hour is and where it is being held.

I’m making lots of notes from your daily blog.

Like u we have been to Alaska many times.  Don’t feel the need to load up on expensive excursions. We do like to do a whale watch in Juneau, but that’s about it.  We’ll take in the scenery and enjoy the ship.

Thanks for taking us along and safe journeys.

like others mentioned boarding in Seattle disembarking in San Francisco is a violation as you have not visited a distant foreign port. Princess will not allow you to book these two itineraries b2b.

Does it matter that the first leg stops at Victoria enroute to Vancouver?
