  1. A couple of points.

    1. ALL of the staff in San Francisco are employed by a shore handling company...not "half". They are not all travel agents "moonlighting", they come from all walks of life and several were in other transportation jobs.

    2. The BVE procedures are changed by Princess corporate on a regular basis, one time they will allow the passengers to board with the BVE guests, the next time, maybe not.

    3. Biggest problem is either BVE guests or Passengers showing up at different times and wanting to "wait" for each other. This is not possible and causes delays for everyone.

  2. Hello all SF cruisers and ship lovers.

We are entering the busy month for ships in SFO.

Tomorrow we will have three ships in town. The Sapphire Princess will be the only one that will be doing a turn (meaning debarking and embarking passengers), the others (X Millenium and NCL Pearl) will be day stops.

The Sapphire will be at pier 27, Millennium at pier 35 and the Pearl at pier30/32.

Enjoy the views and see some great ships.

    Ed (working Pier 27 tomorrow)

  3. If you show up at check-in without a boarding pass/e ticket the agent will have you fill out a similar form and you can indicate "cash" payment. This will take anywhere from 2 to 3 minutes of added time to your check-in procedure.

If you put a CC number in the online personaliser when you get to check-in the agent will change it in the computer to "cash" and mark the boarding pass accordingly.

If you are inclined to cancel because of this procedure, I feel sorry for you as you will not be able to sail with any of the cruiselines or stay at any hotels or fly any of the world's airlines as they ALL have this requirement for travel/accommodation.

If you go to an airline without a reservation and want to pay cash, be prepared for the hassle of your life. You will set off bells and whistles and be subject to secondary searches and interrogations. Hotels will be less of a problem but will certainly require a cash deposit before handing over any keys(keycards).

  4. Anyone cruising this summer from our newly remodeled Pier 35? Yes folks, they washed the windows and it only cost the port of San Francisco $300,000 for the cleaning.( 50 dollars for the job and the rest for sending out proposals and the bidding process and then awarding the final contract to a firm in Dothan Alabama that had to fly in 24 undocumented workers to perform the work). Oh yes, they also put paper numbers on all the posts throughout the terminal (that had to set them back a few bucks). Those folks at the Port Authority of San Francisco really know how to treat cruise passengers don't they? Try working in that barn.

Seriously though, I hope everyone has a great summer and does some cruising from wherever your hearts desire.:D

  5. You are incorrect and you should learn what a "greencard" is. Actually it is now called an ARC which means Alien Registration Card. If all the crew had ARC's then it would be considered 100% as being American Crewed (ARC cardholders are people that are on the way to becoming US citizens or are permanent residents of the USA)

The 15% or 25% rule that is mentioned means that 15 or 25 percent of the crew does NOT have to be US citizens or registered aliens. It means that, in order to satisfy the US labor laws, 75 to 85 percent of the crew must be US citizens or US registered aliens.

All of the crew members on ships sailing into or out of the USA must have US work visa's which are job specific and not related to becoming a permanent resident or citizen.

  6. Wow cruisers we have been pretty quiet lately. We have some real nice viewing/traveling experiences coming up here in SF in Sept.

There will be a cruise ship in town on almost every day of the last week of the month, sometimes two ships a day.

9/18-25-26-27-28-29, then 10/03 is the last ship we will see until next spring.

  7. Sounds like a great idea, but we will be lolling in Gay Paree after the QM2 RSVP cruise, so we will miss you guys. I hope it works out for you and that we can do it again. The first one we held at Martuni's and I think there were maybe 12 or so there.

  8. Well we had a beautiful double ship day yesterday (Princess Diamond and the NCL Pearl) and most awesome weather. That meant about 4500 tourists doing the tours and enjoying our beautiful city.

There were lots of "family" on the ships as well.
